New Draftees Playing Numbers?

The time is now that we speculate what numbers the club will throw around in possible options for our new breed to wear.

Anyone want to have a stab on the most likely choices?

Lucas Cook -

Troy Davis -

Jeremy Howe -

Tom McDonald -

According to MFC these are the numbers that are available.

7, 11, 17, 21, 25, 26, 30, 32, 38, 41, 45, 49 and more....

My only guesses would be that

We will save #11 for someone truly special. Possibly someone with the surname Viney and first name Jack.

# 23 would surely have a rest for a year....if not go to Lucas Cook

# 32 will almost definitely be given out...much the same as Chooks no.5 was given to Jizz straight away :)

I am definately old fashion about giving numbers to new players.

Unless they are players in the first 10 selections they should get a high number,

when they have proved they are a player capable of playing in the best 22 on a regular basis

you award a lower number.

In some ways I agree, but I've never liked the notion of changing numbers. If I were a player I'd want to stick with the first number I got. It would hold a lot of significance to me and I doubt that I'd want to give it up.

With the exception of Cook, you would imagine that they will receive higher numbers to begin with. LJ started in the forties (47 i think?) but was rewarded with 24. I think it should be the same with this new batch. If you are a later pick, earn a lower number.

You are right Mcdonald and Barassi carried a big numbers all there careers and did they not seem to want to change.

Did it make them poorer players.

Whats the problem with a big number anyway, surely it is how you carry it that counts.

I have a feeling that it is the supporters who worry the most about the numbers.

When Cook kicks the winning goal in our next premiership I won't care if he is carrying no.50 or no.1

Cook will get 7.

Who gives a For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

As long as these kids perform they can wear 147, 212, 0 & 69 for all i care.....

For what it's worth, i have half a mind that number 11 should be the number worn by the MFC captain as the ultimate sign of respect. Then again i refer back to my previous sentence and trust MFC to give 11 the respect it deserves whoever they choose to give it too.

I wonder if we could give Jeremy Howe - a famous Tasmanian Forward No,,, 26...

That would at least be recognised very well at home in Tasmania...

i reckon jamar & bennell are the only players with a high number that deserve too go lower but as jamar has been there for several years now i cant see him changing and bennell who knows i guess.... i could see him in 21

Bail deserves one just as much as Bennell IMO.

Having said that, I'd rather see him stay 44.

Heard a few weeks ago that Bennell is moving to #7.

Sauce: MFC's very own CC.

Bail requested #44 as that was his playing number in QLD, and lets face it, #41 didn't work out too well for him.

I preferred him as 43.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
