Those were exactly my thoughts. He looks huge, and not in a good way.

He is a big unit now. Wonder if weight = confidence = ability. He would be hard to push aside in a marking contest. Looks like he has a bit of a pot to run off as well. This has to be his last year at the club if he doesn't improve.

HAHAHA

Newton looks like he's done a massive preseason at KFC... the boy has swallowed a bean bag!

What is going on in his head?!

Brace yourselves... who is the lad on the right???? Bahahaha!!!

fitzpatrick still looks 3 years off an afl game, looks like he would be snapped in half by a defender, ruckman, or a mid fielder..

... or a light breeze.

But as for Newton and Morton, both need some trimming at the moment, but if anything thats a positive. Both have been in need of extra kilos for years. More than likely they have been advised to load up on protein ready to be converted into muscle over preseason.

God-damn Newton. I want him to succeed so much, just to shut you flogs up, but how can I defend a guy who looks like that? Nice computer, though.

I don't think anyone here wants to see him fail, but we are all realists.

Don't think the missing ingredient in his career thus far has been donuts... except for maybe the ones he's been getting on the field.

Leave Newton alone! How the hell was he supposed to know he was still going to be on the list?!

Seriously though, I can't believe I was arguing with posters about the guy's application...

He doesn't do enough, and this PS is his last chance.

Not a great start.

With the tune from He's A Rebel by Crystals:

"He's a Newton and he'll never ever be any good,

He's a Newton 'cause he never ever does what he should".

But just because he doesn't do what everybody else does,

That's no reason why I can't give him all my love (and good luck to him)."

Fitzpatrick looks rather skinny.

I didn't notice Cameron Bruce out there.

Can't argue with that.

The next open training session is:

9:00am - Friday 12 November - Gosch's Paddock (Corner of Punt Rd and Olympic Blvd)

Impressed with look of Maric, Not suprised to see Bate bringing up the rear. If anyone says Wona is looking fit please look closer.

pretty sure they were started in groups. you wouldnt start them all together and if you look at the photos they are roughly in groups by position. i wouldnt read too much into say bate running at the back or anything like that. do you really think jamar would be 1/2 a step behind him after 2kms?

Positive signs for the club. All the young blokes in Scully,Trengove,Grimes,Bail Watts,Gysberts, Morton, Blease, Petterd, Wonaeamirri, Fitzpatrick, Jetta, Maric, Martin, Garland and McNamara are all participating so thats good for the development of these players as they have much time to prepare if they stay injury free, while we still have some of our more mature players participating aswell in Jamar,Moloney,Sylvia,Dunn,Jones,Rivers,Warnock,Bartram,Macdonald,Bate and Newton. I am digging the new training tops and shorts.

I am absolutely pummped for 2011! I hope we can snare John Anthony aswell!

Needs to improve his posture. Perhaps walk around with a book on his head.

Thanks mate. I thought I may need an account or something.

A good sight to see there. Wonna. He's looking trim & fittish.

Did I miss something?

Newton does look a bit like that from the photos, but he also looks like he's bulked up with some muscle as well. So if he's going to be fit by the end of preseason its probably better he came back strong with some padding than thin.

The team certainly looks a bit of a weird bunch, we certainly can't be accused of being crowbots.

Exactly, if the club wants him to play a role where he'll pinch hit thru the ruck & as a tall forward, then the quickest way to put on some mass as a quick fix would be just to eat lots & hopefully put on muscle in the Gym, at the same time.

But his endurance will need some work as well, but if he's to rotate between ruck/forward, & the bench, his endurance may well be managed through the bench.

PS: I was hoping when I heard that he could be kept on the rookie list,,, that he'd put on some quick weight. He'll need it to shove back.

looks like Garland at the back of photo 10. love to see him get a full pre-season.

No sign of Tapscott or Gawn.

Interesting how some say 'gee xxxx has bulked up' even though they have just commenced training.

Yes, it reveals naivete.

The only thing that would happen in October is one of two things: players get lazy and unfit or they maintain some sort of conditioning(ie. they went for the periodic run).

That's it.

agree it can be misread but i think it is usually meant over a season long kinda thing?

and thats not soo true about october i have a few mates who play afl, and they work themselves quite hard over october so they dont lose anything, or get in a position where they could cause themself an injury during preseason

Hahahaha check out this tweet from Meesen to Newton....

TheMeesiah @newto29 u need to stop playing FIFA and get on the treadmill. Saw pics of u today and u look like u have eaten all the cows in your paddock

Trengove quads are huge looks a lot bigger that scully at this point, cant wait to see Trenners ripping through the centre passing off to Sylvia sticking down the throat of Watts who now looks like a man rather than a man child. (whoever told him to get the haircut was inspired his self image will be much better now).

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
