But does Jamar work hard enough as a forward on the lead to push up to the wing and back? That is the greatest strength of Cloke and Dawes, as they can get themselves one out with a defender because the push so hard into the space.

Stef Martin could do it if he competed harder for the ball in the air. He does it better now, but he still needs to improve to get to that point.

Watts looked like he could do it at times this year, but there is no way in hell I want Watts to be smashed around and jumped into all year. I'm happy for him to spend time running around around the ground causing havoc until we are about to launch our premiership tilt.

Feel like we're playing duck, duck, spud here..

Jamar should spend more time at FF.. better option than these tards names being bandied about. Before you say "he is too valuable in the ruck"- I say Martin has improved enough to take the brunt of the ruck work, and we may have no other choice.

I don't want us drafting a spud because we feel we have to fill a spot, I'd rather just re-jig a couple of things. Jamar is the pack busting forward we crave, and he's already in the team.

Completely understand the desire but Jamar is an AA ruckman.

We are going to put him in the ruck in big games and big moments and we will also like to have a decent forward target at that same time too...

Just throwing it out there old. What about this match-up ? Kosi v McKernan

http://www.pro-stats...9028&year2=2011

Haven't a clue on his contract status - I'd imagine he may be all signed and sealed. Can't find anything.

edit: Signed contract extension:

Doesn't say how long for: http://www.fiveaa.co...-release_110067

They've lost Davis and they're gonna lose Tippett and Gunston - McKernan is just not going to be available.

More marks per game. more contested marks per game.

I'm all for pushing Jamar forward at times but he's not the permanent answer there, he's #1 ruckman, let's not break something that's fixed.

Kosi is a bridge to Cook or Fitzpatrick and give us structure until then. He won't cost the earth - a non-essential player or 2nd rounder or both.

No love for Jamar to FF then? That's cool, that's cool.

Why are we going after more youngsters? It's someone who can crash packs now, or wait until one of our rookies are ready.

And why do people think they can package rubbish footballers and picks around the 50 mark for anything? Would we trade anyone that could fill a need for a spud and a low pick? Hell no!

Problem with White is that he's a small man trapped in a big man's body. He doesn't really contest for the ball and is much better receiving it. He's quite quick, but he isn't a marking threat.

Wow, it feels like I just wrote a bio for Paul Johnson.

He amassed 5 (yes, 5) contested marks for the year this year. He averaged 7.8 disposals, 2 marks and thumped through 9 goals for the year. And if you are wondering whether it was because he spent so much time in the ruck, then you'll be happy to know that he averaged 5.1 hit outs a game too.

As a comparison, the following Melbourne players took more contested marks per game than him this year: Howe, Macdonald, Fitzpatrick, Jamar, Bate, Green, Warnock, Trengove, Petterd, Watts, Garland, Jurrah, Rivers, Sylvia, Martin, Grimes, McDonald and Gawn. That's 18 players in front of him (ie, 19th). He fares better at Sydney, where he soars to 14th.

I'm not sure he's quite the contested marking threat that you think he is.

we don't want a tall playing small.

If thats true BoB, then we'll have to find another.

We need a tall who can present overhead. Doesn't have to hold all his marks but needs to spread the pack when the bomb comes in.

He has to be able to skittle the opposition defenders.

Because you've got to continue to draft talent with early picks. The ones we have aren't guaranteed.

We must continue to draft and we'll eventually find a Carey or Buddy.

Or Pendlebury.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
