Interesting that when jimmy spoke last night he mentioned having bumped into brett kirk of the swans. he asked kirk what made the swans so special up in sydney as a club. kirk replied that there was good relationships between the players and families and staff.

jimmy wants to make melbourne footy club great again. this is what he wants the club to work at. good idea. thanks kirky.

Off topic but a great captain like Kirk would help too.

I have a mancrush on him. A great captain. Great football sides have have all had them. It is imperative that we unearth one, I have my eye on probably the same bloke that everyone else has but I don't want to state his name save I jinx it.

That's Pretty much what Stynesy noticed 2 years ago from what i gathered. People within the club didn't know each other.

That's all changed so far from what i have heard....But Good to hear some words from the Kirk Captain. A Fine Man.

Ditto.

And I think one thing thats Key is that Kirk is not Elitist, nor really materialistic. He seems much more spiritual & into 'People'. Community...

Lets throw that pretentious 'Status thing', to the sharks.

Yes ..now feel very much part of an inclusive entity....not just a member sitting in the stands.. The club has come a long way. Now part of a family.

Whats Kirk doing next year ?

Might be a handy assistant coach .

Could let us in on the secret to keeping the players uninjured for starters .

I worked in Sydney for around 7 years in the 90s, and to get my AFL fix became a member of the Swans. They worked very hard to engage the supporters into the club. Part of this after each home game, involved the team acknowledging the crowd, not by a half hearted wave from the centre circle but players went out to all sides of the ground and got closer to the fans as they walked back to the players race. It was a small but effective gesture, as during those years, the team was very consistent in the effort they put in and the crowd felt they were part of the club, win lose or draw. I notice that Melbourne have started doing something similar where the players are now putting more effort into acknowledging the crowd although it still needs a bit of work IMHO.

Another initiative was the way they sent off chanpions. Paul Kelly was the recipient of a video of his highlights, shown on the big screen after his last home game. It was announced prior to the game starting (and during the intervals) that the video would be shown after the game and many supporters stayed back to watch the video (set to the tune 'Shine' if I remember correctly). It was very moving. I think Melbourne could perhaps learn from this, as in my opinion, James McDonald's last home game lacked some of the 'farewell pomp' his career deserved. After so many courageous games, to just be chaired off seemed a bit inadequate for me.

The mantra of "relationships" has been consistent since Jimmy came on board.

Schwab echoes this sentiment.

Kirk was just reinforcing what the club already knows and subscribes to.

I'm not sure he'll ever be an assistant coach though.

Good points about what the Swans did previously that we have incorporated ino our club.

They have obviously had an influence on our operations and with good reason too.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
