Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jeff White does not deserve AA honours if he couldn't complete the business end of the season without tiring. Not good enough for the highest rating if he can't perform in the finals and crunch rounds.

From speaking to my Sydney friends they rated Jolly as a good bargain in his first season.

He was dominant for 17 rounds. You can penny pinch the rest. He was better than any other ruckman in that year over the course of the season.

Sydney won a flag in 2005. Their supporters would say anything was great bargain for that year. Particularly a first round pick that spent most of the time on the pine playing second fiddle to a 34yo in his last year. Gloss it as much as you like.

As you say he was the dominant ruckman for 17 rounds then faded and was a major contributor to our chicken livered colapse for the remainder of the season that counts the most. Made us into a laughing stock for the rest of the comp. For such a sustained period of dominance it all ended in a spectacular failure. Ended up F-. You can have the final say.

I will.

Your need to re write history is frankly silly and does not hide a lack of understanding of what really occurred at the time.

Sweet dreams.

I really thing this kid is something very special.

I reckon he has it all, the build, the attitude, the balance of aggression and smarts.

Fast becoming my favorite, and every year he gets better.

I bet he will make the all Aussie team year after year from now on.

In fact and it may sound crazy, but imagine the guy at full forward or centre half forward?

The player weve been looking for may be right in our own backyard.

God!, imagine the opposition tryin to match up on him, hes big and very quick.

What a killer forward line it could be with Chipper and LJ, WONA,Greeny,Dunny, Ricky and Wattsy.

Warnock, Garland and Rivers could hold up the backline, with Newton worth a try down there.

Luv to see em try it in a couple of pre season games.

what a good idea to try lets face it Neitz started down their to

White was nothing special in front of goal from any distance.

And your greatly mistaken if you are comparing White and Watts forward process. The assessment of White was over a 10 year period. Watts has been with the Club 2 years. Go figure the rest.

In his final year at MFC in 2004, Jolly missed alot of the season through injury. White was an athletic ruckman who made up for lack of height at the centre through his marvellous leap and great athleticism and tank. During 2004, White dominated the centre bounce area and was the No 1 ruckman in the AFL. White won AA honours. Its not a matter of dispute. He was judged by the AA experts as such Together with Scott Thompson, they were pivotal in MFC topping the table by Rd16. But when Thompson got injured and White started to tire toward season end, MFC's hopes in that year faded. Jolly did play in the last few rounds but played poorly. In addition he cracked the sads off the field and wanted to be No 1 ruckman without ever showing the mettle. He was traded by MFC to Sydney with one year to go on his contract. It took Jolly a further 3 years to become a No 1 ruckman at the Swans. In his first year at Sydney, he saw more pine than a Bunnings warehouse playing 2nd fiddle to Jason Ball. He has become a very good ruckman but at MFC he was many years off that as a green developing player. And you assertion about development under Daniher was quite wrong.

RR give it a spell, Do you forget the game againt the dogs ?? 2005 ?? 55m out ??

Had MFC had a forward line that could get on the park Neitz would have remained a backmen, a position I feel he was more suited to at the time. The whole game is won and lost in defence and we possibly have the best young defence in the AFL. The main man down there is Frawley, take him out at our peril.

Agree. Whilst I don't mind left field suggestions (good ones), I think Frawley is an intergral component of our backline and for the short to medium term, he should continue this role. Especially within the development years. Unless we develop some more strong clones like him, he can stay put.

I think this^ is good "initiative".

Oh, he also seems to "read the play" fine down back to...

Like HT said, good left-field ideas are fantastic and I also love to hear them.

This is definitely not one of them.

Some like to defend....

Others prefer to attack!

I really think we should give Jurrah a shot in the back pocket - Darryl White style.

He can play on talls or smalls, and his run and disposal out of the back line would be outstanding, something we really lack at the moment.

the only time that LJ should play in the back pocket, is when we were tanking, like round 22 v saints 2009, after he kicked 4 then he played in the back half after that, for most of the second half, LJ is capable of kicking a minimum of 2 goals a game, there are not many of those at the club.

Move Jurrah to the backline? Frawley forward?

But why??! These moves are usually done out of necessity, or to turn games.

If you already have someone capable of performing that role and the player in question is better suited to his original role, what the hell is the point?

Fwiw, Jurrah & Frawley would be freaks anywhere on the ground, but their talents are BEST used in the roles they currently perform for the team (who'da thought the FD would pick the right possie for them?! Amazing, I know...)

Just going back to Jurrah, he is amazing...

Just re-watched the late in the season Essendon game today.

His recovery is remarkable.

At 14:30 minutes to go in the last, he contested in the air against Hurley & Hooker, 2 on 1, him getting a foot higher off the ground than either of them.

He was at the back of the contest, the ball spilled forwards, he recovered to cleanly take the ball on the bounce, handball sideways to Watts running past, chopped off by Colyer.

Colyer bolted 15m in the other direction to be run down in a tackle by... Jurrah. All in the space of 10 seconds.

Holding the ball and with the free Jurrah finds Green with a handball running past, who pinpoints Bate in the goalsquare.

It's no coincidence that St.Kilda & Collingwood had the best defenders/defence (best two "against") in the AFL. It just so happens they played in the GF - where Premierships are won.

Taking Frawley out would leave a massive void down back.

Reminder: Frawley was No.1 for Rebounds out of the back half this season (2010). Which in effect directly and indirectly correlates with the method in which we "attack" - which is your preference !

Others just come up with stupid ideas and bring up silly sayings when others don't agree.

It doesnt bother me when people disagree, everyone has a chance to express their opinion on these forums.

Its when infantile people like you resort to calling people "stupid and 'silly",because your not clever enough to make a good argument.

If you paid attention, good arguments have been made by many posters but you choose to ignore them and instead try to hide behind an imaginary cape of virtue.

You simply haven't thought your idea through.

Ignore them i did not, infact some i thought were good arguments and told them so even if they differed.

Believe me i am no self richeous fool.

It just really bugs me when people get personal on here.

Im not saying i am right or wrong, simply posing a hypothetical question, some have agreed, some have not, nothing more nothing less.

Methinks you the virtuous one my friend.

Is think we both are, but the difference is that I am aware of it.

No im not virtuous ,ill admit if im wrong but this post is simply a hypothetical.

Theres no right or wrong just an opinion.

Im happy to see Chip stay in the backline, just posed a what if, and maybe a practice game experiment.

You dont really know me and i dont really know you.

It does seem that we are both passionate about the Demons though. :)

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
