Jordie McKenzie

Me too. Last time Riewoldt killed him, but that was before anyone really knew how good Riewoldt actually is. It's been a while since Frawley was beaten, I'd love to see him get one back.

Only going from memory here and I don't like making excuses for anyone once they cross that line. From what I recall reading on this forum at the time, wasn't Frawley in doubt or something back then due to illness ?

Perhaps someone else knows ? Jaded perhaps.... ?

Oh yes, that is true (well, at least the general consensus is that he was ill that day). Still, I'm sure in the back of Chip's mind he remembers playing, and being beaten, by Riewoldt that day.

He is getting better every week, a trend in all our players.

A terrific season so far.

Chip will now doubt remember, I am sure he will be looking at tearing Leapim Jack a new one.....

I'm a big fan of Jordie McKenzie to,,,i think he's a great player

but how did a rookie manage to get number 13? i thought rookies generally get higher numbers like 48 etc..

He wore 49 last year. Jordie was offered a spot on the senior list at the end of last year but volunteered to stay on the rookie list so we could draft another player. Presumably the club has shown that it clearly intends to keep him so gave him an appropriate "senior" number.

Yep, at the time there were rumours circulating that one of our defenders were in doubt with the flu.

I have little doubt it was Frawley because he definitely wasn't himself that day.

Should be a very good matchup this weekend though.

APPARENTLY Hurley got it.

I rang SEN tonight and reminded them about Jordie as Finey and Pikey talked about Melbourne. They said nothing in response.

Don't worry. Those guys don't have enough brain-cells to compute anything outside of the very thin margin in which they operate. Total idiots who are very lucky that SEN is as lacking in talent as it is. If it were of a little higher standard, those two [censored]-jockey's wouldn't be anywhere near any voice transmitter more powerful than a telephone.

I heard you. About 7;25pm, yeah ? They gave Jordie doughnuts. Not surprised really.

Did you also mention something about Miller to the Gold Coast ? ..Pike focussed on that. Like he said if B.Miller gets an offer from the Gold Coast, he should take it. Clearly he is struggling at Melbourne; languishing at Casey. Pike got the impression Miller has been stamped.

It was around that time. Daniel from McKinnon. I mentioned Jordie, because the subject was going to be Melbourne. Finey is very excited about us, and was saying how we're going to be number 1. Pikey said "why?" Then went on to say that just because we have a lot of draft picks doesn't mean we'll be successful. That Carlton have stockpiled theirs. My call was to rebuff that, but by this stage they'd moved on to asking what KP forward MFC could look to snare.

I mentioned that we had 3 CHFs playing in Watts, Dunn and Bate and that all were playing up the ground, and that we needed a FF more. Pikey went on to say that Watts is coming along slowly for a #1 pick, and that we need something between the ages of 18 and 21 for some of these kids. The last part I would have agreed with but by that stage they'd moved on, so I hung up.

So the Miller part wasn't suggested by me, but yeah, they may have gone there.

Pretty pissweak. I was looking forward to hearing what Finey had to say about the Dees. Pikey wriggled off the topic at every turn, unless it was reminiscing about his glory days watching ox kick 9, and himself kick 4 in a quarter.

I think Pike does have a point in asking "why?" Just because we have stockpiled alot of early draft picks, doesn't necessarily equal a successful #1 side. It's up to the club to develop them to be able to play to their best as a team and take advantage of the talent intake.

It may guarantee a competitive outfit, but it doesn't necessarily guarantee a flag. ie. St.Kilda.

I can think of a few other #1's that came along slowly. What is positive is "he is coming along"..

I thought Watts had the opportunity to kick goals himself in close range on Saturday night. One in particular he handballed to Green in the goal square, when he had time to snap himself. It will come.

either way this kid is something special.

For sure. I wouldn't mind if he was more hungry, but I'm not going to complain if a guy tries to do the team thing. I imagine he might take on more responsibility - ie. finishing the job himself - as he gains more confidence.

What I liked the most about Watts' game was his clean ball-handling - for a big guy he's very good when the ball's on or near the deck.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
