Bugger bugger bugger... I don't read the HS any more but while waiting for a coffee this AM I was browsing it and lo and behold the flogs had it in the paper!!! I wanted to wait and see it once it was launched.

PS Looks really good. Keen to hear the story behind it especially the Southern Cross...

Wankers.

Fancy them respecting the club's right to unveil the emblem on their own terms.

Can't say I'm too surprised, but they hold other things out of the media for other clubs.

It's apparently in the HUN. It doesn't look great. Has a Southern Cross on it for some reason.

Some significant reason no doubt.

T_U and Tarzan, I am suprised by the negativity. What is it that you don't like? Everyone that saw it here seems to love it. Many many supporters of other clubs on bigfooty.com rate it highly.

essendon supporter: "it's very good "

Carlton: "Very nice like it a lot"

North Melbourne: "Its that great it makes me want to follow them.

Im glad for the integrity of the afl that they have gone away from the Crows/Lions/Cats path. "

Saints Supporter: "Big Fan!"

Carlton "This is an outstanding logo in my opinion. It makes me wonder if the company or artist who produced this would produce all the club logos so we have some continuity like we did in the '70's and 80's. Logo's are all over the shop nowadays. "

PS. I think we should respect the clubs wishes. Cam Schwab has thanked us for doing so in the meantime.

I concur

I showed it to two Essendon supporters, a Carlton supporter and two Collingwood fans last night and they all really liked it.

I'm with you Yeats

I can't see what's not to like about it.

Those with criticism I think are trying to find something wrong with it, rather than appreciating a great Emblem.

It's a narrow-minded attitude, in my view.

well oh my God if everyone seem to like it then i better go with the flow and change my opinion!!!!!! Pardon me for having one.

i just dont like it, the southern cross?? the trident?? too much in a small space. i like the shape of it and the colours.

I love it. It captures the essence of the club in a stunningly simple yet eye catching format. It tells a number of stories but doesn't lose a vibrant and sleek appearance. Doubt I'd change a thing.

Crying shame that the club hasn't been able to launch it at their discretion, someone has really stuffed up here. I'm just so disappointed for Cam, he seemed really excited about presenting to the Melbourne faithful, almost like a re-birthing of the club on an image level.

FWIW, i love it.

You're a cynical bastard, the logo is already displayed publicly

I don't like the Southern Cross on the logo. These days the Southern Cross is too easily associated with the low-life scum that had branded themselves with it during the Cronulla Riots. The Southern Cross might have meant something years ago, but its meaning has been tarnished by the filfth who have it tattooed on their skin.

Posted

The club is at fault, people have been shown it, a little bit of hype was created, it is human nature to try and find it. If the club didn't even mention that they are redesigning the emblem then nobody knows, no one searches for it.

It's out, the club should get on the front foot this week at the presidents lunch, the premium Members function this week, the score board at the game. Then at the B&F go through what it means.

It does look great, the main issue with it being out it may effect our Mechandise sales as most will wait until the new range comes out.

I agree that the SC has been hijacked by bogans, but I don't think that it shows much resolve if one panders to the misguided nationalism of some.

Why do you advocate meekly handing them ownership of such an iconic symbol ?

Well at least you have qualified what you dont like now Tarzan. shame you feel this way, most love it and embrace it. Ask yourself if it is better than the square thing we have now?

Hmm..facy having a trident?? thats not Demonlike is it ?? ffs

I can only imagine the SC has something to do with us being the founders of a unique code inthe southern hemisphere ( or such )

Rules of game almost anonymously in bg..fine by me... we wrote them after all

A football...somewhat self explanatory I would hope

The stylised flames..who knows..the flames of hell or the olympics..lol your guess as good as mine.

Looking forward to the official back story etc. I thik its stylish, simple for what it is and yet conveys much :)

From what I have heard the flam represents the eternal flame for all the players we have lost in war.

Quite fitting when you hear that.

Look, I don't really mind it, I just don't like the Southern Cross. Maybe there's a reason, maybe it's related to the players/officials we've lost to war as the flame is, but I just don't like it.

It's without doubt better than what we've got at the moment (the square).

Those with criticism I think are trying to find something wrong with it, rather than appreciating a great Emblem.

It's a narrow-minded attitude, in my view.

Why would I try to find something wrong with it?

The first thing I saw when I looked at it was the Southern Cross. Doesn't make me think 'Melbourne'. The rest does.

I think it is fantastic. Its an emblem not a logo, its can be as busy as it likes. CS is on the money with this. Better than the old. Best in the league.

Yeah, look, I see what you are saying and that was my initial reaction too, but it was only momentary.

To be honest, it has frustrated me in recent years that symbols of national pride have been hijacked by racist morons.

Unfortunately this is a common problem in other countries - I know in the UK they have suffered the same with the St George's Cross being linked with the nationalist movement.

If there is a way to overcome this, it is by reclaiming these icons for nobler causes.

I think the MFC is one such entity.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
