Will Morton go to Goodes?

From memory the last time that we played Sydney, Cale was assigned to mark Goodes all day and came out even if not on top...

Goodes is one of the main men to control, similar to Pav yesterday... who will go to him?

Looks like he's playing midfield now, having been played up forward for a while but really struggling there.

I think Morton or Dunn will go with him when he's in the middle. If he goes forward maybe Frawley. But apparently yesterday Carlton tried to rotate players through him which didn't work.

McKenzie would probably stick to him like a glove in the close in stoppages but does he have the pace to keep up with him when he decides to turn it on?

Although Morton has been much maligned on here recently, i think that giving him a simple directive at staying in Goodes pocket the whole game could be good for him to get back the feel of the game... He has the tank to go with him all day and has an ability to get in a fist defensively.

Morton should not have been playing in the senior side against Freo. He did nothing at Casey to warrant his selection and the decision to bring him in would have been based on selecting a kicking side for the big ground. This has to have a negative affect on other players more deserving of a senior game (Cheney, Maric, warnock, etc..)

I love Morton and I think he will be a great servant of the MFC, but he has not returned from injury with any confidence, and he NEVER puts his body on the line or throws himself into the fray with aggression. He needs time to get his confidence up at Casey.

Playing him on Goodes this week would be a disaster! I would like to see Dunn get first crack at him.

Silly comment. Fails to take into account the evidence available. Last season Morton went to Goodes and slapped him all over the park. It was his best game of the season. I'd be thrilled if he picked him up again.

No doubt Morton was good on him previously, but I'd be worried about his confidence seeing how he's looked so far this year. How about giving the dependable Dunn first crack and let Morton drift forward, if he could get a goal or at least a few touches he might stop second guessing himself and be the better for it in the coming weeks. OR start McKenzie, Junior, or Jones on Goodes and let Morton get some touch, then in the second half when legs tire and height can become a factor move Morton onto him.

Didn't Goodes get most of those in a singe quarter?

I'd like to see Mortin have first crack. If he can hold him again it's a clear win for us both on the day and in terms of Cale's confidence. If he looks like getting blown away we have other options like Dunn and Garland who can run with him.

Definately not at the moment but as per the poster above, it might be the challenge he needs. If Rhyce Shaw plays forward then Bartram will probably take first crack. If Shaw plays off half back then i think Morton may also be an option for him there as a defensive forward- again, might be the challenge he needs.

We also need to shut down the run of Reg Grundy and Nick Malceski.

I personally think Goodes just had a poor day last year. Morton was pretty good, but i felt that it had more to do with Goodes than Cale. Remember when Miller towelled up Hall? In hindsight, Barry may have had an off day, but for the next 3 years that game was referenced constantly when talking about Miller and where he should play.

Dunn on Goodes for me.

And if Roos was smart he would keep Goodes away from the forward line knowing that his confidence will take a hit if Chip goes to him.

I think Morton will get the role on Goodes again. He shut him down so affectively last time. That was the best game I witnessed an MFC player play last year. It certainly made the drive back to Melbourne a little more bearable.
