Dream Rookie Shopping for 2011

This may have been discussed previously in other threads, however it has come up quite a bit in discussions with my friends of late. As we have seen, more so in 2010 than any other season, Rookie players making an impact.

It's a great way to supliment your list, and given that we know more about our list than we did before Round 1, what does everyone think would be the best area we could look to build for depth. Rookie players are also a bit of a 'free hit' in footy so the risk is really minimal but the room to benefit is large.

I'll start it off, Matt Little of Williamstown is a mature aged player who has been kicking bags in the VFL.

Should've picked up Sautner years before, but I guess we had Neita kicking goals...

Matt Little sounds interesting, how many has he kicked this season?

I would be surprised if he isnt playing at the Gold Coast next year. A player we should look at. 188cm. I think we would like someone around the 192-196cm mark and about 90-100kg.

Yeah, the Barlow/Pods thing is amazing, but let's not forget Aaron Edwards kicked 100 in the VFL and ended up at the Roos during a period that they made some finals, but he's just another player. You could argue a list-clogger.

agreed.

Not many VFL players become elite afl players, wouldn't be putting huge amount of faith in drafting the next Barlow.

Valenti was the best vfl player... he was only an average afl player.

worth a shot i guess though, later in the rookie draft

Stockdale from Casey, very good little tough running defender, I'd be very keen to get.

Maybe Myles Sewell from North Ballarat, he's a ball magnet but then again we're developing a pretty decent midfield as is.

Key position forwards and maybe a mature age ruckman who can play forward I'd say is also on the cards.

Our current stand in captain at Casey,James Wall IMO would be an outstanding addition to our list- most probably suited to the rookie list at this stage. His year has been extremely good.Could even become a premiership captain. Here's hoping.

I don't want any more skinny blokes on our list please. We need muscle and bulk

Simpson from Casey. He's listed as 196cm, a very powerful unit, and he damn near killed someone in a tackle earlier in the season. I'm not sure why Geelong didn't want him, but he looks pretty decent.

He has my vote as well, been very keen on him when he elected to play for Casey, and not Frankston.

Big, strong and has some mongrel in him, just what we need, Have some defenders etc to have the 'wind'

put up them. Hasnt played much, at Casey, I'm thinking (hoping) MFC wanted to keep him 'low profile".

We could do worse, than rookie him for next year.

1st post!

Paul Richardson from Swan Districts in WA. defender who can play in the midfield.

AIS member in the same year as Griffen, Ray, Mclean, tambling etc and captain of the WA u18 team in 2003/2004. Overlooked in the 03 & 04 drafts, may have been due to being injured during both draft camps that he was ivited to. He hasnt played much WAFL footy latley due to work comitments but recently made his return and has recived good wraps by the WA footy press. He is 24.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
