Casey Scorpions v Port Melbourne

KC from Casey

Recommended Posts

▶ Danger game for the Scorps against Port as they will be nowhere near full strength and are almost certain to be playing anywhere but at Casey Fields given that the heavens opened up again in Cranny today.

Port is a stand alone team which means that Casey could only play 12 AFL listed players against the Borough but given Melbourne's long injury list and the need to take one emergency to Perth, they'll be lucky to field 10 Demons. Some strong bodies will be needed in this game to match Port's strengths.

Stay tuned - venue and teams should be available tomorrow.

Edit: According to the Casey Scorpions Twitter:

"Scorp's v's Port Melbourne Saturday 17th July 2.00pm @ Casey Fields. Reserves at 11.00am"

I guess that means the game will be at Casey Fields after all.

Great to see Max Gawn named on the interchange for the seconds..At least he may get a run on the park being the first match for him in 2010.

We're down to 10 AFL listed players in the Casey team this week - 9 once you allow for one player, probably Matthew Warnock going across as an emergency.

It's customary for at least one other player to drop out so it could be down to eight.

VFL State representative Michael Stockdale is also out with a knee injury and may be out for the remainder of the season. If so, he will be sorely missed.

As I said above, it's a danger game with the result possibly deciding the outcome of the top four and Casey has yet to beat Port Melbourne at Casey Fields.

No and they wouldn't want to be either.

Their last two televised matches have been 100 point plus losses.

It's really good to see that most of our depth players are playing in Casey, and that our best 22 is almost full strength.

Really, i'd only look to JMcDonald, Pettard, Grimes, Trengove and maybe Warnock outside the current team.

Hopefully Blease, Tapscott, Gysberts, Maric and Strauss can put pressure on the senior players are get a few more games by years end

Game definitely on at Casey Fields.

There was a local game last week that was moved to a ground next to the Cranbourne Racecourse which was a fantastic idea although the races weren't on that day. Wouldn't it be a great idea if they combined the races and the footy at the one venue? It would certainly bring the crowds back to the VFL. Just imagine backing the quinella, Casey Scorpions and Makybe Deva!

The smell of bacon and eggs is wafting across the ground and the crowd is swelling with the arrival of a family of three Demon fans. I'm so early that even KC hasn't arrived yet. Max has had a couple of runs and a lot of hit outs. Sam Bleese is an absolute speedster. Casey leads 4.2.26 to 3.5.23.

This is a first for me.

At Casey for the start of the ressies to watch Max Gawn's return to footy.

After all, I am his sponsor!

For the benefit of the 50 other punters here ATM, Max is the tall bloke wearing # 77 and the condition of the ground is good.

Fantastic. Really looking forward to some feedback on how Big Max and Sam Blease go in the ressies. Geez I wish I lived in Melbourne during the footy season, I'd be down at Casey for sure.

Half Time Casey Scorpions 8.4.52 to Port Melbourne 7.9.51

Sam Blease started to get involved more as the quarter went on. He has pace and a lot of class but I suspect that he needs a few more games before taking on a senior position in the VFL.

Max Gawn is dominating the centre bounces when on but is getting very little of the ball which I suppose is to be expected for his first game in over 14 months.

I think that's it for Max today as he's only slated to play a half.

You should find a picture of Max at the quarter time huddle which I've sent to Andy for posting on the board.

KC, interested to hear your thoughts on Marics role and game when you get a chance?

Playing on the half forward flank pushing into the midfield. He's probably Casey's best player in the first half.

Port Melbourne is by far the better team and the 3 goal lead doesn't do it justice.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
