I didn't see the game, but a couple of comments from the radio guys stood out.

On Watts, they said you can't deny that he keeps moving and presenting. I would guess that what he lacks is the contesting part.

Garland they said was continually making bad decisions and disadvantaging teammates.

It also seemed that Scully and Grimes were turning it over a lot today.

Bartram - forget this week

Bate - glad he's ours

Bruce - far from worst

Davey - needs some support

Dunn - bits and peices

Frawley - solid yet again

Garland - seems dodgy one-on-one

Green - head held high

Grimes - found ball, clang!

Jamar - see aaron davey

Jetta - where to next?

Jones - tagged very well

MacDonald - looked to attack

Miller - [censored] poor effort

Moloney - given no space

Morton - no urgency shown

Rivers - looked unusually lost

Scully - lazy 25 again

Trengove - one of best

Warnock - smashed all day

Watts - +1 more game

McKenzie - down form patch

Anyone else wondering if the Boxing Camp may have taken it out of a few players? Especially the leader, Moloney.

Do our fitness staff have any say in the planning of the camp?

I would have thought the fact that Adelaide were paying him more attention following his recent good performance was more of a factor.

Grimes gets treated like royalty around here. I know he has only played about 20 games and he has many good attributes but he has some big deficiencies to work on. Sometimes I think he is better off using his left foot everytime because his right just lacks penetration and just hangs up in the air waiting to get picked off. If he is going to play that sweeper role across half back he needs to eliminate these turnovers that often result in goals to the opposition. He also has poor accelleration off the mark and poor awareness of what is behind him... all year I have noticed that he has been run down or caught off guard when playing on. Plenty of improvement left in him yet.

Yeah true, I did say in the game day thread that Adelaide were on to our Russian/Beamer combo, but from what I've heard he didn't show much of his usual vigor. I love the idea of the boxing camp and the invaluable bonding it brings to our young blokes but just wondering if the timetable and activities involved are co-ordinated with our fitness staff.

I agree with a lot of what you said there and i thought he was much better when switched in to the midfield; he simply makes too many errors in the backline and turns it over/puts his team mates under pressure. He is much more creative when he is in the middle and should spend the rest of the year there.

Miller. He was like a statue today and he is simply not up to it, you can't have a player that doesn't put his body in especially when he is as big as he is. He stands there at times and just looks completely last.

Today was a big setback for the club we have once again shown that we are simply not good enough and I can't see where the needed improvement will come from.

Jack Grimes has played about 20 games, and if his current form is any indication, he will be a star by the time he reaches 50 games.

He is number 198 on our list of problems.

No he's not, he is going to be a good player but let's not put our head in the sand and ignore the defects he has in his game. We've done this for years and allowed players to continually make the same mistakes and then wondered why we never get anywhere. If we had changed the way Miller was starting to play 6 or so years ago he may have been some value to the side but we didn't and allowed him to go upfield taking easy marks and passing it off to a runner. Now he has to play closer to the goal and be a focal point he hasn't got a clue.

Scully has to be told that getting a handball out to no one and just hoping one of our will be there is not good enough. Jones has to be told that he must get rid of the ball sooner and not try to take on the pack. Watts must be told that he has to be aware that there are others on the field and that when he has a mark, free kick or gets a handball he has to get rid of it before he gets tackled not after.

It's all these little things that cause turnovers and most goals now days come from turnover, so if you are fair dinkum about improving you must cut them out of your play.

What is up with Jetta? Surely He has to make room in the side.......for anyone. At the start of the season it was "How are we going to fit Jetta, Wona and Bennell in the same team?" Now I am wondering how any one of them will fit in our team. I hope all 3 bounce back to some form so we are posed with the same question once again.

Jared Rivers has to be dropped. I know he has his supporters, but each week he just does enough to keep him name out of the bottom 3 players, subsequently missing the axe each week. The problem is he is consistently in the bottom 5 players every game. Maybe he does need some time/confidence building at Casey. He is not a poor player, and I am not using him as a scape goat, I just think he could use some time to build his confidence in at Casey and return a more rounded player.

Sylvia and Junior being out are hurting more than I thought they would.

No. You got smashed cos you hitched your wagon to Jayceebee when he claimed Grimes should be dropped to the VFL for "disciplinary" reasons.

Most people here... barring the kids... are aware of his deficiencies. Always have been. Every player has them.

Yes Grimes made some errors. To be fair so did alot of his teammates and many made alot more errors.

Easily bottom 3 this week. If he's not gone next week, we know that the match committee are looking at unrealised potential and not form.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
