Anyone know why Martin is missing? His versatility will be a loss to Casey. Makes me think Fitzpatrick is a big chance to play his first VFL game.

Yeah i noticed that too..

and yet we keep Miller in the seniors.. who by the way, only had half the kicks that wattsy had last round! demon_biggrin.gif

If you have a look at the Melbourne team- every player who was named on Melbourne's interchange from is named in Casey's team. Only concern is Watts actually being named on the ground instead of the bench which if it is the same as the AFL, usually means they are guaranteed starters in that team. i hope they don't drop him, they just need to keep persisting week in week out and take the good with the bad.

Is Jack Watts playing today?

No. In fact, Paul Johnson is the only selected MFC interchange player in the game so it's possible that at least one of the players selected for the Demons will miss and another will be an emergency.

Quarter Time: Casey 3.3.21 trail Sandy 4.0.24

Half Time

Casey Scorpions 6.7.43

Sandringham 6.1.37

Casey started strongly with two goals to Joel Macdonald and another to Macreadie but Sandy struck back with two goals.

It's a scrappy affair!

Rumour that Colin Sylvia will miss on Monday (got that from a bloke in the canteen).

So PJ and Cheney are playing, meaning Bennell will be the one who is ready to come in if Jones doesn't come up.

Unless of course we decide to cop another $10,000 fine.

Horrendous game.

Absolute mud pile.

I left at half time.

Not a game worth watching.

I noticed Newton wasn't playing.

Does anyone know why he wasn't playing?

Cheney deserves a game in the seniors at some point. Maric was busy.

Other than that, i really didn't see enough.

Chip was at the ground with Dunny and Petterd.

Juice was injured early in last week's game. Stef Martin was also out this week along with Rhys Healey who was injured playing in the reserves last week.

By the way, with Williamstown's defeat today against North Ballarat, Casey is now on top of the ladder and plays Willi next week at Point Gellibrand. The game will be Casey's first televised game of the season despite it occupying one of the top spots throughout the first half of the season.

Was at the game today and I must say I was very impressed with Casey's win. Wasn't a very attractive game as it was played in very heavy/muddy conditions but Casey pulled through to win a real danger game where only 9 Melbourne listed players were playing and were without the likes of Miller, Newton, Watts, Dunn & Martin who have all been rotated through Casey's forward line this season so far as their key position players go.

Here's my take on the Melbourne boys.

Paul Johnson - Played well in the ruck up against Steven King, broke even at best in ruck hit outs, but did a lot more around the ground then King. Can't see him getting back into Melbourne's team however unless Jamar is injured.

Addam Maric - Like his last few games started very well but faded as the game went on, think Sandringham paid him a lot more attention after quarter time. Kicked a nice goal and was involved in a few other. Played mainly across half forward and looked Casey's most dangerous forward and was quite creative. Needs to work on decission making but I would think he'll probably get a chance with Melbourne before the seasons out.

Daniel Bell - Good solid game in the midfield without being outstanding. Did some nice buluking work in the middle in the heavy conditions and seems to be the main component in Casey's engine room.

Kyle Cheney - Another very good game in defence and was probably the pick of the Melbourne listed players. Saved a couple of goals and wasn't beaten in a one on one challenge. It would have to be a matter of time before he's given a run with Melbourne, he's been very stiff.

Joel MacDonald - Very good game across half back and provided Casey with a lot of run. Kicked 2 beautiful goals in the 2nd quarter and did his chances of a recall no harm.

Tom McNamara - Very solid in the back line without getting a lot of the ball. Along with Cheney, Tommy was just a solid wall in the back line and as I've posted previously, he seems to have a very good understanding with Kyle. Don't know if he'll get a call up any time soon but I suspect he's definatly part of Melbourne's long term plan.

Austin Wonaemirri - I thought Aussie was very good today without kicking a goal or getting a lot of the ball. He provided a lot of forward line pressure and was probably the cleanest player out there as far as handling the ball went. Could possibly be back in the Melbourne team after the break.

Daniel Hughes - Didn't do a lot today but presented all day in difficult conditions and was hard at it. Can't see him getting a game with Melbourne again this year unless there are lots of injuries.

James Strauss - After Cheney I thought he was the next best of the Melbourne players. Every time he kicks the ball I drool and he's definatly in the mix for a recall. On form alone Cheney would have to be ahead but Strauss's kicking may help him out. Does need to tighten up a little defensivly IMO.

RESERVES:

Jack Fitzpatrck - Only saw the final 2 min of the reserves but Jack was out there. No idea how he went but it is good to know he got through another game. Wouldn't have been his conditions but I have no doubt he'll make it long term.

Didn't realise Rhys wasn't playing today, someone else was wearing his no and I assumed it was him.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
