New contracts

By my count we have 17 players still unsigned after the 2010 season as well as the 6 rookies who can only be re-signed once we get to the relevant time of year where we can do elevations, retentions, etc.

This would suggest we're going to see a number of players signing on again over the coming months and I have heard a rumour over the last couple of days that one of the next boys to sign on the dotted line is going to Ricky Petterd.

I can't disclose the source of the rumour obviously, and it probably goes without saying that as with all rumours of this nature posted on here I am going to say that the information originates from someone within the footy club who is close to the situation.

You are welcome to take or leave this information, I'm not going to jump up and down insisting I'm right and that kind of thing, but the way I heard the story is that Ricky's thought processes go along the lines of having unfinished business at MFC.

I sincerely hope this is true, and if it is, it'll be a terrific signing in the context of the QLD family reunion beliefs held by many.

If true, excellent news! What we've all been hoping for!

(Only time I wanna see young Ricky running around up here on local turf is when the Mighty Dees venture up here to take on the new team!)

Go Dees!

This is NOT NEW. Ricky told at least 2 Demonlanders 3 weeks ago that he will be at our club post this year. Also it has been recorded on two other threads previously.

Would be awesome if true! Ricky is far infront of Robbo weight for age (who at 21 struggled to get a game, had no second effort and was a C Grade set shot for goal). I think Pettard could end up being a 500+ goal kicker in his career. Further in a forwardline with Jurrah, Watts & Green, he is unlikely to get the same defender attention as he did this year as our prime go to man.

Maybe not new. But I, for one, never tire of hearing good news, especially when it relates to the MFC...

Jay: steady on. Few demonlanders read every post, I as one had not yet heard this rumour...... and I am on here everyday. There is no point in being critical of such posts as this would only discourage people with information from posting it in fear they will get slapped by people like you. This in turn will slow the information flow on demonland and thus in time reduce its value and in turn readership.

Not a smart post Jay.

I certainly wasn't one of the demonlanders that was made aware Ricky was close to signing. First time I have read this.

Great news!!

Great post Grand New Flag!

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere, like GNF I hadn't seen it, but had seen plenty of people expecting and claiming the opposite so I thought the matter worthy of its own thread. I'm not trying to big note or make myself out to be some kind of source of inside info on this one, just passing on something exciting I'd heard. If you'd like, take the post as another bit of info on top of Ricky's own tweet saying he's looking forward to wearing the guernsey next season, which frankly, was as positive a comment as he could make in a very public forum.

As for the full list of players coming out of contract this year, apologies to whoever had done the hard work in compiling this already, I lifted this from a different thread and am now monitoring it myself. Again, this is not my list, the credit belongs elsewhere:

M. Warnock

C. Bruce

N. Jones

J. Watts

M. Bate

B. Miller

P. Johnson

R. Petterd

C. Garland

D. Bell

B. Moloney

J. McDonald

J. Rivers

M. Jamar

R. Bail

S. Blease

J. Strauss

+ Rookie List

I've bolded those I believe are nothing surer than signing on.......I've underlined those that I expect we have to sign.

Johnson and Bell - I would be very suprised if they are here in 2011....enough depth in the backline, Johnson - enough of him sadly.

Yes I've bolded Rivers before anyone starts on me.....unless something valuable comes for him in a trade I would never move on him. As long as he is played with some freedom is an excellent defender.

And Miller......He deserves every chance to have a final crack or two this year. I would LOVE to see him come good as he puts everything into his performance, he is well above VFL level but maybe just not good enough at AFL. See how he goes with Jack Watts in the side, you never know they could work well together

No need to apologise. Your comments have been appreciated by several of us already. Keep up the positive posts. Poor blighters like me, stuck thousands of km from the action, drink up all the inside goss we can get.

Well done.

I tried to get a thread going that I hoped would be stickied so that we'd have a list of players' contracts that could be updated when news broke of signings etc. That way instead of the speculation and/or rumours flying around we would have had a definitive list. This was the attempt: http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17779

Maybe this thread could take that role?

Thankyou for this. Are you sure the list is accurate?

I thought that Bartram only got a one year contract at the end of last season. Perhaps that is just wishful thinking on my part

I'm sure that what is in there is accurate if its sourced. That was the point of the thread. To get definitive contract data, not speculation or rumours. So yes, if there's a source then it's a sure date.

Thankyou Titan.

On that basis , Johnson, Bell and Miller ( Gold Coast?) are certainly under the pump.

It is interesting that Jamar only got a one year contract at the end of last year. As things stand he is critical to our plans for the next 3-5 years. I hope the Gold Coast isn't full of Russians(?)

I was, but that was one party stating their wishes.

If,,, you look at this & study it after clicking the 'AGE' tab up top to put the list in order of age,,, top to bottom,,, it will show just how important it is that we DON'T lose any players under the age of 'Matthew Bate'.

I think it also shows that I would keep Miller for his potential physical side, & possibly look to Trade another tall forward/midfeider/negator. There's more.

I just... I'm all teary :P

Seriously, Ricky Petterd is one of the great images of the Demons. Not particularly big but his intelligence using his body, the little hip/butt bump at the last moment of the marking contest, the unquestionable general effort and the visible courage, the solid skills and continuous improvement.

He is the exact kind of character we want at our club, at every level of talent from star to fringe.

22 Rick Petterds! Unstoppable!

I hope you're not claiming credit for Jamar's All Australian form.

Who else do you want cleared out? I'm sure you're gunning for Bartram and Meeson.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
