The Contract Thread

We all love to have our say as to who deserves to be kept on the list and who ought to make way. But a lot of the time we don't know anything about a players' contract situation. People are always wondering about who's in contract, who's not. So I thought maybe we should make a thread where we can list players' new contracts when we actually know about them. This can then be the source we can refer to when considering what might happen to certain players.

In the last few weeks we have found out the following (dates are the last year on the player's contract):

Davey - 2013

Sylvia - 2011

Wonaeamirri - 2011

Jamar - 2010

Miller - 2010

Also (from http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsart.../default.aspx):

Newton - 2010

Bate - 2010

Frawley - 2010

Petterd - 2010

Garland - 2010

Jones - 2010

From http://www.melbournefc.com.au/News/NewsArt...7/default.aspx:

Maric - 2011

Morton - 2011

Grimes - 2011

Martin - 2011

McDonald - 2010

Green - 2011 (http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/default.aspx?newsid=68889)

I assume Cheney and McNamara are OOC this year (standard 2-year deal when they were drafted in 2007), and since I haven't found anything to say otherwise, I think Watts, Strauss, Blease, Bennell, Jetta and Bail are all contracted up until next year.

RR says PJ and Bell are contracted for 2010 but I haven't found anything that confirms that. So there are 17 players there who I've found confirmation about, and other 10 or so who are unconfirmed but likely.

Newton .... Dead man walking this year. Maybe he gets a few games as a last chance to come good.

Cant see it

Jurrah as well would be 2010.

Meesen Got a 3 year contract from 2008 so - 2010

up to 29 if Bell and PJ are to 2010 as well, Can't find anything on:

Bartram

Bruce

Buckley

Dunn

Warnock

Moloney

Rivers

Bartram - OOC - Rumours flying

Bruce -2011

Buckley - OOC

Dunn - 2011

Warnock -2010?

Moloney - 2010?

Rivers - 2010?

I hope Buckley does not go.

I think he has something to offer when fit. His ball carrying impressed me early on in 2008.

he is gone......!!!!!

sad but true

I reckon if we get rid of Buckley, he will be picked up in one of the drafts, and will make a fool of us by becoming a Jason Gram type. Not a gun but a better than good player. I hope we don't delist.

I would much rather keep Buckley than Valenti or Bartram

Valenti is a rookie and if Buckley goes, in all likelihood, Batram will be gone aswell.

Only Batram, Buckley, Cheney, and McNamara are OOC. To bring Pick 18 and 34 into play we need to move on two of those players.

poor Buckely.. mfc could go without pick 34.... couldn't they?

I think i am to biased towards Buckley.

and unfortunatly, he will go.

Cheney and McNamara will be given another year, but i do not see them being a important role in defense and if they do not have a good year.. they'll be gone.

Based upon the reported shallowness of the draft, along with our large number of very young players, I would think that the possible upside to Buckley is worth more than a fairly speculative Pick 34. That just leaves Bartram as the only further delisting and means using draft picks 1, 2, 11, 18, PSD1.

I would have the following order (preferred to keep at the top)

Buckley

Cheney

Bartram

McNamara

Tough call coming up.

Cheney they want to stay on but he might chose not to

buckley is gone !!!

the other two i have no idea about

Only the other two..?

Only the other two..?

Bartram

mcnamara

one of which will go i assume depending on Cheney

Over your head obviously.

Ok, tell me, where exactly does Cheney think he's off to if he doesn't stay at Melb?

Its fascinating to hear that our football dept is on the edge of their seat waiting for his decision

And yet we are stuck with Newton. Somebody wasn't thinking about that one.

the JUICE newton!

they might decide to keep all the guys uncontracted? and only use the first three picks in the draft.......

Dunn - 2011

He's safe for 2 more seasons :o

I know he had a decent second half of 2009 but I was under the impression he was playing for his career in 2010.

I look at the four players and think that in some ways, each of them would be stiff to be delisted. Reaslistically though, would any of them get anywhere near our premiership-aspiring sides of 2012-2017? We have to at the very least give three of these blokes the chop to make room for the 5 ND picks, Spencer and PSD1. Missing out on pick 34 is not an option for mine.

Well, make that 2 more delistings of the 3 remaining. As per brettmcg's thread on the LS and the article on the MFC's website, Buckley's been delisted. Thanks for your service, Simon. Hopefully he continues to follow the Dees with a passion.

Sure. But I created this thread in the hope that we could get definitive answers about contracts. You haven't provided a source for Bruce's or Dunn's contracts.

As far as I'm concerned, Bell, Johnson, Bruce and Dunn are unknown. I'm not saying you're lying or making it up, but you don't have any source to back your word.

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
