Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Bennel I would have had "Excellent body work"

The amount of times he used his body to hold out an opponent when in a worse position or to help a team mate was immense, and if that cheat of an umpire paid him that mark for using superior body work he would have scored a goal.

Don't agree with your assessment of Martin. He was very good tonight and more than earned his spot. Did all that was asked of him. Contested the rucks well when Jamar rested and brought the ball to ground in the forward line for the smalls. A couple of times he was outnumbered up forward but refused to be beaten and locked the ball in.My brothers and I commented on how well he played more than once during the game. Solid performance I thought.

Could attack the ball that is there to be won a little harder. Only critisism of him- needs to attack the loose ball with more gusto. I could see at least one goal oppurtunity missed based upon these observations.

Still young and ambitious, he will pick it up- then we may see a force.

agreed, he used his body really really well last nigt, i was very impressed. and that free kick was a joke, he only barely touched him and it was his hip on his opponents, hands no where in sight and it was called a push in the back. i was furious.

agreed for a man with great pace he seemed to lope along a bit a couple of times when i thought a 10 meter burst could have either won us the ball or caused a turn over. overall ok game, but could work harder.

Agree. Not a star game by Stef but one chock full of 1 per centers. He did the hard team work all night.

Can't agree with any of these.

Bennell was good. Has been for the last couple of weeks. Pressures, runs, creates opportunities. He could have kicked 2 or 3 yesterday if things had gone his way (players getting a handball out the back, not being told he pushed a player in the back when he didn't etc.)

Dunn is not an important player. Far from it. He's a fringe player. Isn't playing horribly, but isn't doing enough to tell me he'll keep his spot when Morton, Jurrah and others start pushing for selection.

Martin played well. Did what was asked. Best ruckwork I've seen from him ever, and he looked passable when he went forward. Definitely took his chance, and must be retained next week, as we come up against another team with mobile ruckmen (McIntosh and Goldstein).

Absolutely.

For a guy his size he is terrific below his knees and really creates good contests, even in 2-on-1 situations. How many times was he beaten outright last night? He rarely gets outmarked, and that is obviously the positive transition he is making from the backline.

This guy has played footy for about 3 years, and is very big (has put on a lot of muscle over the summer). It took Jamar 8 years to start playing well, and Martin is already miles ahead of him at the same stage of their careers.

Good first game!

i agree with martin

i dont think he played very well

but he didnt play bad. i think he was abit slow, he has lost his pace abit.

i disagree with bennell. he may only get a few touches or so but when he gets the ball he knows how to get around players and just gets away from them, he has great pace this kid.

agree with martin/dunn amendments. bennell looked exciting, but he didn't actually do anything imo.

martin was extremely important last night. he gave us flexibility, he gave us a contest, he gave us a different route to our forward line i.e. a longer ball to one on one contest in the 50 rather than the continued hit up of smaller targets and most importantly he allowed jamar to rest and ensured that we weren't blized out of the ruck when he was doing so. playing dunn against clark etc would have been murderous.

dunn's game tagging brennan was pretty good too.

too many supporters want 22 rock star footballers in the team. it doesnt work like that.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
