Though I haven't seen the Sydney game, so I don't know how well Hannebery played, McKenzie did really well and I was somewhat surprised that he didn't get a nomination this week.

Doesn't matter, he'll get one at some point.

If he keeps getting those numbers in the tackle column they can't ignore him.

K-Mac really is the favour of the month.

Just wondering how many picked him in their team for the start of the season?

Anyone got time to review - who selected what in their team

prior to the season kicking off?

Could be interesting to keep tabs on who gets most selections correct.

Of the Melbourne Players, I still pretty keen on Trengove

Good build, hard at it, will get better as the season goes on.

You need to be nominated by Rd 8 to win it. In its history only 2 players nominated after Rd 8 have won. Kozitscke(Rd 14) and Cousins (Rd 12).

Interesting stat that one. Our potential nominees are: -

Scully

Trengove

McKenzie

Watts

Bail (eligible ?)

Strauss

Blease

Tapscott ?

Gysberts ?

Fitzpatrick ?

Any others I may have left out ?

McNamara? Maybe too old.

Yeah, I thought that too.

edit: He is 20yo old on the 29th April. Eligible.

Considering it is a media award, I know without a shadow of a doubt that Naitanui will win it... but it still hasn't stopped me from putting a fiver on MFC's best chances.

He needs to get nominated to do that, hasn't managed it in a losing team in the first two rounds

This award is like so many other awards, it is often biased and many people are influenced by others, some may say it is even political.

It is also annoying that media people get to vote on awards when half of them have no idea what they are doing.

Natanui will almost likely win it, and he will be nominated as soon as WC win a game.

Rich was talked up all last year, from Rd 1 onwards, and was always going to win it.

I would love one of our players to win it, and realistically the only 2 who have a chance are Scully and Trengove. I dont care how well McKenzie is doing, but he is not flashy enough and will not get the media coverage, which is what the AFL wants.

I cant be bothered looking it up, but I am guessing most previous winners would have come from "winning" teams, so that may make it hard for our guys.

Where is all this 'biased media award' business coming from??

Who was the last winner of this award that didn't deserve it and was just a media darling of some sort????

Rhys Palmer won it when Freo were very shizen

I suspect most nominations come from teams that have won in the round they are nominated but I don't believe you have to be in a winning team. Reiwoldt and Kozitchke won it in 2001, 2002 when the Aints were shizen.

Edit: Just checked and the Aints finished 15th both years.

McKenzie's start to the season justifies Adelaides attempts in the off season to lure him over there, that fact that he was offered a 2 year deal on their senior list, and knocked it back, speaks volume of the commitment of this kid, I love the way he goes about his footy. Last year nothing stood out to me from his games, and yet this year he really seems to have taken the next step.

I am not saying that the players who won it did not deserve to win it, I am just saying that the player who get the publicity and get built up by the media have a greater chance to win.

Also, thanks for the updates on winners from bad teams, I was too lazy to look them up myself.

So I guess we need Melbourne to win and the young blokes to play well for a nomination, and then hope they play well all year, which may get them the award and will also lead to more wins for us!

Doesn't it feel like were a big club now. Un-earthing undiscovered diamonds etc like all the clubs around us.. it's exciting, we're like all professional and stuff now! Makes me proud!! Go Dees!!

I think we've had our fair share of that.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
