Just want to people opinions with these kids, neither where released this year after not playing a game in the space of 2-3years.

From what ive read people on here where quite exited about these two when drafted, though that tends to happen who ever the club drafts.

Be interested in peoples views and weather they will be retained? Obviously a lot depends on the up coming season.

Healey has not excited me so far, but he is young.

Hughes has a lot of potential but so far injuries have prevented him from putting any decent form together.

2010 is make or break for both players though.

Healey appears to be a big bodied clearance midfielder. According to reports he was playing some good footy for Casey reserves before a long injury ruined the second half of the season. He seems to be at the end of the list of strong clearance midfielders behind probably Moloney, Jones, Mackenzie and Scully, Trengove, Gysberts. I'm not sure what else he brings to his game. But at the top level I think you only need 1-2 clearance mids in your 22 with others capable of winning their own ball. As he is on the rookie list he will have to really impress to get a game, but a lot can happen in a season. If Healey becomes a best 22 player in the future then I will see it as a bonus.

Hughes is a very interesting type. He looks good at VFL level and if he could contribute what he does there at AFL level he would be a very good player. His problem is to me at least is that he has never really knocked the door down to get senior selection. I'm not sure what he is up to in his preseason, but he I think he's had a lot of injuries in the past. A massive preseason could see him become an AFL level player. Again he is another that seems worth persisting with and would be a bonus if he made it at AFL level.

Healey has only been on for this season & has apparently some good attributes, endurance being one.

I've allways thought Hughes had talent but thought he may have had his time, but I'm happy to be persuaded by our footy dept on this.

To be honest, they have the job in front of them. McKenzie and Spencer seem to be ahead of them while Meesen and Newton are on contracts so these lads are 5th and 6th in line for rookie promotion. They'd really have to do so something special.

I saw Hughes play about 3 years ago in Tassie. He snagged 6 goals and marked everything that came near him. I thought on that day he is going to be a star. But due to injuries hasnt kicked on. I have faith with the MFC and what I saw on that day that there is something special about him. I am happy they have kept him on. This year I guess, is the line in the sand year. His final chance to get his body right and force his selction. If not he is a MFC trivia question in years to come.

I read that he did some pretty good things at Casey in 2009.

Good luck to the boy, tough ask to get into this devolping Forward line and make a name for himself.

In the six games he played for Casey 2nds he was most impressive, however , kicked allot of behinds. Got the ball which is the main thing. Got potential- worth persisting. However, as pointed out above, will really need to lift.Hughes- the club must see allot in him- may come on- but very doubtful.

In the limited vision I've seen of Hughes, I'd put him ahead of Maric as a crumbing forward (not saying much yet) and I think this will be his downfall as he's competing with Wona/Davey/Maric/..... in that position and has limited scope elsewhere.

But I thought he would have been given more of a go in a shambolic 2009.

Same, also expecting to see Hughes last year, his form in vfl was quite good at times.

Hope he gets his chance next year, personally i think he will or he wouldn't of been retained.

Tbh...have no idea why Healy is still there...must be contractual as has hardly raised a blip on the radar. Hughsey is simply not going to threaten Maric for a spot. Aside from differing particular leanings to positions Maric has shown ability..and will now show poise and smarts. Hughes, for mine still needs to show he can step up.. might be our next 4-6.

The deal with Hughes was that if e played senior footy in '09 we wouldn't have been able to keep him on the rookie list this year.

I don't get it. Is this some Rookie List AFL rule?

This is exactly right coming from Daniel Hughes himself, apparently the coaching panel were keen to give him a few games at the end of the year, but didn't for the reason stated above.

Sheesh, yeah. Lucky he's not 190 - 192 cms or he'd really be in trouble.

Was Robbo a tall forward or a small?

Just curious whats wrong with 190-192cm players?

Cam Bruce, Joel Corey, Matthew Pavlich, etc are all that height and are great players.
