Not surprised. Collingwood did slip up there... but I'm not confident he would've blossomed the way he has and will at MFC.

Not that we have a superior player welfare system in place or anything; I just think we coincidentally had the perfect setup of indigenous players at the club and coming into the club, to make this adjustment for him easier than it would be otherwise.

Whelan being the old head on the way out, Davey the star player who has been around a few years and can guide him through, young Aussie roughly the same age and a promising up & comer, and then the young boys Benny & Jett.

I just don't see Leon Davis and Brad Dick making him feel as welcome.

I know it doesn't have to be a race dominated issue, but I really think the boys feel more comfortable among one another due to their similar backgrounds.

Collingwood have their share of indigeonous players on their list, i doubt Liam would have been treated any different.

Collingwood stuffed up badly and we were just lucky and quick to pounce.

The one area i think Liam is lucky is that at this stage MFC players are not under the day to day pressure that the Filth players are.

I heard Eddiewood on Radio this morning, it certainly sounded like a very colourful and fiery AGM.

no idea on that. A friend of mine said Liam was the type of player that was not focused, missed training & his heart was not in the game... thats why the pies did not develop him!!!! ... Just a jealous Pies fan, mind you he mentioned after a few games from Jurrah.

Their loss our GAIN, and what a gain that was, LJ is freakin awesome.

Collingwood are seething, but to be honest who knows if those smug bastards would have even selected him if we didn't. If they were keen on him, they should have picked him up in the ND. I understand our reasons for waiting and seeing what happened during the end of that ND, Collingwood had seen his talents and should not have taken the risk of Melbourne claiming him in the PSD. Where they trying to get him as cheap as possible? Certainly looked that way by not using a ND selection on him. Where they hoping he would slip further into the rookie draft?? If so we may never have go to see Liam on the big stage.

Were we lucky? Not really, we finished last and were in a prime position to pick any diamond in the rough via the PSD or RD. Where we lucky Collingwood wouldn't roll the dice on him in the ND- very lucky!

I do hope LJ turns up the heat and makes Collingwood really suffer over missing out on such a unique talent. F%#k Collingwood!

He wasn't registered for the ND. Collingwood made the decision he wasn't worth pursuing. Melbourne got him when his friend Rupert Betheras arranged for him to be specially registered for the PSD where we conveniently had first pick.

Given how Collingwood scours the country with a fine-tooth comb and invites every 17 year old who's ever looked at a football down to training, it stands to reason that SOME of those players will be overlooked and turn into good players at other clubs.

Anyone remember a certain Alwyn Davey? We had our reasons for not drafting him, and then he goes and gets picked up by the Dons and is now in their 22.

This happens to every club, and I reckon it's more a reflection on their rabid toothless supporters than their administration. Perhaps now they'll think more about how transparent their inner workings are.
