I'm not a fan of the 'almost black' blue that some find appealing.

Was about to say the same thing. I still want us to be the "team of the red and the blue", not Essendon.

The blue in this website is also a bit too dark. Looks marginally off black to me.

Looks blue, dark navy blue to me.

It will still be "red & blue". Not "black".

This conversation sort of reminds me of something I wrote on here a while ago.

Whilst I'm not opposed to it, I'm a little curious as to why after all these years and all these different jumpers, we feel the need to return to a jumper worn 50 years ago.

I'd be happy returning to the late 80's jumper. It was something similar to a long time ago, blood red; dark navy blue; sharper "V". Since then it has gradually changed bit by bit, different material, blunter "V", almost purple-like blue.

Isn't it recognising our heritage and what the jumper was when we were a dominant force and a return to tradition in a way ? If it is, that is a good enough reason why, for me.

Purely symbolic of the club trying to return to its glory days.

Its something the supporters can get behind and say 'see, the club IS doing something!' until we start winning a significant amount of games.

I'm all for it.

And then change it again?

As I said, I'm not against it - I just find it interesting that after all these years and all these jumpers we decide to return to an old jumper because we were successful in it. Will we stick with that? I doubt it.

Funny conversation.

I happen to know, from my experience in printing and sending clients a proof, that a common problem is individuals having different monitors and different settings on those monitors making each person see the 'same' colour quite differently.

For what its worth, I love the dark navy blue look of the Demonland site on my laptop.

I think its an effort to recapture an era. We were THE team 50 years ago !! weve meddled endlessly with or jumper and never really had anything ( for the most ) that looked as smart and distinctive as the jumper of the Barassi era. dark navy blue has always been really realy dark...its a bit like the midnight sky...( its not black either ).

Not sure why the red cuffs have disappeared off of the long sleeves either

What do people think of the following design for the 2010 jumper???

MelbourneDemonsGuernsey2010copy.jpg

Changes from the 2009 jumper:

- Deeper and darker blue (bordering on black).

- Blood red yoke, which starts higher up on the arm cuff for a sharper appearance.

- The introduction of '1858' on the back on the jumper just under the collar. We are the oldest football club in the world... be proud of our heritage.

- Changes to sponsor logos, e.g. Reebok = RBK, and The Age = Volvo

We also need to keep the collar 'V' shaped... not the rounded 'T-shirt' look which are stupid looking. Unless there is a physiological advantage to wearing these rounded collars, I say that we stick with a 'V' shape. Looks more like a football jumper!

Any other changes needed???

Fantastic job there mfcrox!

However, I would make the red "V" yoke even sharper and make it go down even lower....perhaps another 2 or 3 cms to where the point is.

Here is a good example of a Melbourne jumper (even if the picture is in black and white). Notice how far down the point on the red "V" yoke goes?

barassi.jpg

Personally I would LOVE to see the Demons have a collar on their jumpers too....but that may be a bit too "old school" and may be a possibility for a 1950s/1960s style Heritage round jumper perhaps?

I would also create a long sleeved jumper design which has red cuffs on the ends of the sleeves. That is VERY traditional in the minds of many, many Melbourne supporters (including myself).

We also need to have 2 "clash" jumper designs a predominately Red one and another which has White in it...possibly using a Demon logo of some sort.

But yeah, keep up the great work! :)

I don't think the point of the yolk was lower, I just think it used to begin around the middle of the shoulder whereas now the yolk begins at the armpit which made it look more pointed.

Just thought I would post an 'updated' version of a possible 2010 jumper using some suggestions from this site.

MelbourneDemonsGuernsey2010copy1.jpg

Changes made:

- Changed the colour of the yoke to a darker 'blood red'

- Started the yoke higher up on the arm cuff, and extended the bottom point another 2-3cm

- Added a 'Demon' to the front of the jumper under the sponsor logo

- Removed '1858', and replaced it with the traditional 'MFC' logo (just an idea I had).

Thats about it... comments appreciated.

yolk isnt any lower on older jumper...but they sure wore their shorts a bit higher !! ( as was the way even with trousers ).

A current jumper can and ought to consider the heritage elements whilst incorporating the technology of the day, especially if thats the flavour youre trying to invoke. I think the mfcrox vers is great. Im not sold that a round neck really has any advantage.. but thats only my opinion. If its taught and body hugging I would have thought a v(ish) neck is just as useful.

Those thinking the yoke is too high.. keep in mind the jumper as show ( mfcrox ) isnt tucked in...when it is... it would look just about perfect ;)

Thats right!

I demand they bring back the red cuffs on the end of the long sleeves on the new Demons jumper!

Apart from Yze (who rolled his up to his elbows anyway), I can't remember the last time I saw anyone in a long sleeve jumper?!

Robertson often wore one

well often as in it wasnt isolated occasions.

funny ..cant find a pic of him doing so ...but can recall more than a few games having seen him do so.

Agreed.

I took RGB readings using a Firefox tool called ColorZilla. This 4-panel colour bar (in RGB) shows the following:

demons4colours.jpg

Left: Black (R:0,G:0,B:0)

Second from left: The very dark blue used on the Demonland website (R:5,G:0,B:30).

Third from left: The dark blue used in some newer melbournefc logos on the MFC website (R:7,G:15,B:69).

Right: The blue used in older logos on the melbournefc website (R:1,G:49,B:98).

I still think the second one is too dark, and I like the third one best. The right-hand one is too light.

BTW, I have a colour-calibrated monitor for pre-press purposes.

and your lighting balanced no doubt :) ( used to work supporting this thing ).. suppose its very much to taste..but I do prefer the second one as you put it..its just sharper ...very smart.

of course printing will use CMYK...but lets not confuse everyone !!

Wheels wore his jumper with the sleeves rolled up, they even made a "t-shirt" version for him.

I did it too and it's actually a very comfy jumper. Good for when you don't want to go with the singlet but less daggy than the long sleeve.

Bruce also used to wear long sleeves occasionally.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
