For those worried about our fwd line I have a couple of points:

1. Garland will play fwd in 2010 (his set back is nowhere near as bad as people think)

How do you know this or are you just hoping for the best?

speaking to cc at the function he said that Garland is going to be totally fine this year.

I could name on one hand the posters that said that we should go for BA over 'the best tall forward at 11.'

No one doubts that we got some talented kids, unfortunately somehow the idea of recruiting for our future needs got thrown out the window.

eraadyn, i dont think there was ever any plan to 'recruit for our future needs' so don't worry, it didnt get thrown out the window.

we drafted best available at all opportunities, which was the plan.

He is right. I explained this is another thread he starts running this week.

I welcome Jordan to our club, we need to continue to load up on quality.

The idea that 2009 pick 11 and 18 was our last opportunity to get quality talent into the club through early picks is flawed.

The GC and GWS picks in 2010 and 2011 are 1,2,3,5,7,9,11,13 and 15

That means in 2010:

16th gets pick 4, 15th - 6, 14th - 8, 13th - 10 and 12th gets pick 12

We need to finish 12th or higher in 2010 to receive a later pick than pick 11

I'm tipping another top 10 pick next year

In 2011

17th gets pick 4, 16th - 6, 15th - 8, 14th - 10, 13th - 12, 12th - 14, 11th - 16, 10th - 17 and 9th get pick 18

We nee to make the 8 in 2011 to receive a later pick than pick 18

I'm tipping a "normal 1st round equivalent" pick in 2011

So it's quite likely that over the next two drafts we'll again have picks earlier than 11 and 18

Anyone want to claim the thumb?

Yep.

I must admit that I was one who argued that we should take talls at #11 and/or #18 - so I was horrified when Gysbert's name popped out. But with Gawn and Fitzpatrick folded into the mix.......I was much happier by the end.

My view leading into the draft was based on the conventional wisdom that "you could throw a blanket over picks 10 to 30" and that some talls were under that blanket. BP was convinced that Butcher was the only stand-out tall in the draft. If that''s right - and I accept that it was - I reckon we played it the right way - and have ended up with an exciting group.

There will be pressure on the "Gismo" because he was really our first live pick - but right now I accept him as someone they really rate - and I look forward to watching him play.

I just wish we hadn't wasted a rookie pick on Hughes - so that we had room to speculate a little more.....

Damn, too late. Well I'm on the other hand, hence there were more posters on one hand after "best available". :P

I'll take the "index".

Ok, Jarka is the thumb. Pretty sure Jaded was a fence sitter.

She is also crude.

Therefore, she is not included.

I'm giving you the middle finger as I type!

Disgrace.

If Jaded misses out because she is crude then you better strike my name out as well. Give her the thumb, more than happy to have my name attached to another body appendage

Alright, your story checks out.

Ok, fine, I will amend - I can count the posters asking for BA at 11 on two hands.

If we're going to take a risk on a tall, I'd rather take a risk on a mobile giant who can kick and take good contested grabs (this is what Gawn's footage suggests).

What we're missing from our forward line is a giant pack-breaker who'll take contested marks. From everything I've seen (limited mind you), Gawn seems the most suited to do this with his skills and frame. He'll also be the most ready-made of all the talls, given he is already over 100kgs.

I'd rather take a quality mid at 11, and a ruckman/forward like Gawn at 18, than risk blowing pick 11 on a tall who won't really fulfill our needs. Gawn is killing two birds at once.

It seems you were more for best available mid at 11, rather than best available player

Shhh, back in your box you!

I was always thinking best available with picks 1-18, because I'm not a fan of mediocre talls.

Seriously, are you guys arguing over which finger you get on the best available hand?

I'd claim the whole fu%&ing arm and both legs if it was worth anything... instead I'll just bask in the glow of knowing I was right :P

(Mind you, I'm sure I would've contradicted myself on more than one occasion...)

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc.
