take him at 34!

very passionate melbourne supporter and great work ethic just like his brother! say what you want but i reackon having them together will make them both better!

then all we need is Vardy at 11 and one of Black, Griffiths or Carlisle at 18 and we have done very well!

Nothing article. These are just the 30 shifter knows most about and is trying to hype up.

Max Gawn?

I'm surprised Majak Daw and Serhat Temel didn't make the list...

am not surpised they didnt make the "top 30" per se ...but that wont necessarily corrolate to the way the clubs go about their selections. If it was a flat run at things the draft would probably go as perceived. But different clubs have different needs and the draft order may well show variances to the afore mentioned perception of seeding.

I would have thought Temel might have crept in (top 30 ) and personally consider Daw a top 40.. the draft itself will unfold its own order.

So much hype this time of year, makes people think so much higher of players that they have not seen and know minimal about. Forums such as this one are notorious for for adding value to player then people get disapointed that they slid or did not go as high as they had hyped them up to. Temel was rated an outside chance to be drafted prior to the late season form and now has done fantastic to get to 3rd round material. He showed that when he works hard he has the ability , though whether this was ability against boys or out and out ability it is yet to be known. I think that with a couple of preseasons he could be a very handy 2nd forward type , though it all depends on how much he wants it.

Temel has garnered a bit of favour amongst some clubs followings. His attitude and potential could indeed fill a gap ona development type list for teams needing forward stock. I reiterate ..actual taking order may reflect the differing clubs' positions rather than any linear type ajudication. There arent a great many decent forwards or rucks etc in the first 40 ( or so ) Some players might find their value revalued upwards if they fill a need as compared to the greater amount of mids.

the third round starts at strangely enough 34... hes not our cup of tea..but might be someone elses

I would prefer to take a Grimes type at this pick or Max Gawn personally. I was merely using your post as an example not taking a shot at yourself. I agree that Shifters version of a 30 players may almost certainly not coincide with recruiters, yet you could probably say that the majority would fit there. Outside of these 20 ish players is when a recruiter really earns their money or loses their bundle. Recruiting has certainly come along way since the 90's.

After reading the Aaron Black thread I hope we grab him at 11. Glad that Callum Bartlett is not listed in the top 30 as he was talked up as a possible top 10 before he did his ACL this year. Big wraps on him on BigFooty and his video highlights are very impressive. Fantastic kick and has XX factor.

Would like Griffiths or Vardy at 18, Bartlett at 34 and Grimes or Gawn at 50.

i've changed my tune. i think i'd prefer gawn at 18 compared to vardy.major concern with vardy is his pace, and speed off the mark. looks to be the traditional lumbering ruckman. gawn's just a really good contested grab and could really prove to be a headache for oposition teams when resting up forward. although i also like the idea of troy taylor in there at 18. i'd not be unhappy if out of jetta, butcher, black, troy taylor, max gawn, liam patrick, grimes jr, or temel. thats on top of scully and trenny.

think it will be somethig like black vardy patrick and maybe grimes. i suppose that wouldnt be the worst thing.

The way the draft is shaping up, I can see a top player dropping to 18.

With the top ten seeming to be close to settled, there's only six players that could go between 11 and 18, we could easily pick up a player at 18, that others are talking about picking up at 11.

i think that the club will probably take a tall at 11 although that may depend on a better ranked player sliding out of the top 10.

i have come to the opinion that the club will take ball at 18. still undecided if his body has long for the afl but he has a number of up sides. BP keeps saying that the club will take best available. probably less risk in ball then most other players available at that stage. barring injury should be good for 3 - 4 years at afl level. don't care if he hasn't spoken to the club. as Voss said he will play were he is told. he's a pro footballer so will suck it up and get on with the job.

the later picks will be best available. club recruters know what there doing although with the last pick maybe look for another x factor project type

PSD should pick up joel Mac. like him a lot. reads the play well, creates run off half back and can play tall or small. can't work out why lions would dump him for raines

Andrew Moore is a player that seems to have gone under everyone's radar. Kevin Sheahan gave him a super wrap in today's sun under the Crows draft needs column, saying he was a lovely kick and has good hands. He is the brother of Kelvin from Richmond, and I happen to know that prior to Kelvie joining RIchmond, the family were mad Demon fans. I would love to see him picked up at 18

I can not wait for next Thursday draft, Melbourne have come a LONG way over the past few years.

It just seems like the clubs is finally working together and heading in the right direction.

So excited to see Scully, Trengrove @ 1 & 2, Black @ 11, Panos/Talia @ 18. Can not wait for all these players hit the 50 - 60 game mark, thats when the Dees will be pounding @$$ like bubba in Maximum Security!

Seriously throw in Blease, Strauss, Watts, LJ, Grimes etc etc, we are looking like a very formidable side.

The Dees will be see some exciting years ahead..

Surprised ??? I really get frustrated when people throw up Majak Daw's name. If anyone actually watched this guy go around and new the slightest thing about AFL they wouldn't mention his name. He is media pump up tool/experiment/flavour of the month.

I have watched plenty of him this year LIVE and yes he can run and jump but he can't read the play and is [censored] by hand and foot and I mean [censored] !!!

Okay he has had minimal time playing our game but you don't pick up a player that can't play our game.

You can guarantee that one or more of the above players will be available at pick 11 and it would be hard to pick a tall ahead of all or most of them. I would love to see the club pick up another mid/forward before a tall, there will still be good quality talls at 18 and 34.

spot on. i agree. he definately is just for publicity. just a 'feel good' for the afl and their efforts of breaking down boundaries and into new markets. not a serious contender. anyone that mentions his name in a phantom draft/ wishlist i discredit immediately

From the things ive seen and heard I would not be upset if we picked up Max Gawn at pick 18 or 34. We are in dire need of a decent ruckman and from what Ive seen and heard he could be the answer. Ok did his knee but players can get over it. If a pick is too much risk then rookie him. I just have a good feeling about this kid.

I was being facetious.

If you're going to include a player like Max Gawn in your top 20, you might as well include players that will be likely rookie-listed but have bigger profiles than their ability deserves, such as Daw and Temel.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
