Well boys and girls the madness of trade-week is over. As I have suspected for some time it was a most robust session this year with an amazing amount of players now needing to talk to real estate agents

But as is the way of these things...not everything that could have been..is !! Some parties who were ceremoniously ( or unceremoniously ) put on teh table with or without prior warning will be considering their options. Some bridges if not burnt are definitely in need of major repairs and some wont survive them.

There will be players who now consider the PSD their only salvation ( or face saving outcome )

So who are they ?

I would have to think that Luke Ball is an obvious candidate as its unlikely it can still be all buddy -buddy now at Saintsville.

Who else ?

Bradshaw ?

quite possibly...is he actually out of contract ? am unsure

actually he might have a year left....not sure ?

Ball is in the box seat as a target. For now.

I said on Wednesday i was in 2 minds about Bally but with Scully,Trengove,Jones,Beamer,Grimes what we need is another muture age mid who oozes leadership and toughness and his onfield leadership for our 18-20yo mids would be extroadinary.

As far as i can see his choice is us or the Saints,it'd be too risky going into the ND and he'd always be 4th,5th,6th mid at the Saints which is why he wanted to bail.

We can certainly pay him more than the Saints could offer him.Ross Lyon could have accepted pick 25 from the Pies,i reckon we'll get him for nothing.

if we do happen to get ball in the psd do you think it will influence who we take at pick 2 or do u think scully n trengove are locked in; :)

1 and 2 I would think have been locked in for some time.. remember we thought until recently we had Brocky.. now we dont , but we also have a perfect opportunity to trade up !! Ball is a rather good complement to the new kids..not an impediment. Draft picks to remain as were i suspect

Funny to think that this blokes career just might be over at this moment. Never mind Jordie, you will always be a cult hero on these pages. We love ya !! May you enjoy watching the progress of Scully as much as we do! BTW, that was a great kick under pressure!

There are a handful of players at each club hoping to get a new contract for next season. I imagine there will be a few interesting delistings, so if Ball nominates for the ND in the hope of getting to collingwood, there still may be another player or two out there that will slip through toe the PSD and be a genuine talent.

I think Ball is a class act, and if fit is a premier midfielder in this comp. I agree with the masses though, only sign him if he wants to play for the club. I care not for players who care only about the pay check, I want guys who want to win us a flag!

Ball appears to be a great leader and character, his signing if he wants to come here will be a massive gain for a club that severely lacks onfield leadership.

I don't wanna perpetuate rumour however I've heard from a source "reasonably" close that 1&2 are locked in as stated. I still don't know if I believe this bloke, (he spins some sh!t) but he seemed pretty confident and for a Carlton supporter, had a lot to say about Melbourne including the development of Blease and Strauss.

So what did he say about blease and strauss?

I don't think MFC drafting will change, there's to long in between the drafts. Ball could resign with the saints in that time.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
