Shane Mumford

I actually read that as Geelong offering him 3 years, thanks though.

Nah mate, the paragraph above starts talking about the Swans losing Jolly, then flows in to them making an offer to Mummy.

"The Sydney Swans, who appear resigned to losing All-Australian Darren Jolly to Collingwood, are also in the market for a big man.

The Australian newspaper reports the club has offered Geelong youngster Shane Mumford a lucrative three-year-deal."

If it's from Sydney, it would be lucrative.

Here is the paragraph from The Australian;

"A day after securing former West Coast ruckman Mark Seaby, Sydney was in negotiations with Geelong's out-of-contract ruckman Shane Mumford, who now appears destined to play for the Swans for the next three years.

Geelong general manager of football operations Neil Balme yesterday conceded that Mumford's days at Skilled Stadium were numbered because his club was not in a position to match the Swans' offer, understood to be worth about $300,000 a year. However, the Cats appear certain to retain Mathew Stokes on a two-year contract, while Mark Blake, who was preferred to Mumford in the finals series, is considering a two-year offer."

Sydney's added an extra year to the deal (now more than $1 million over 4 years), and Mumford has asked Geelong to be traded:

Mark Blake will wish it was him going to Sydney. He is negotiating a 2 year contract and his understudy is accepting a 4 year deal.

Flag window aside.

That's a crazy contract for a nobody like Mumford. He's a lucky boy.

Goes to show what a rare commodity ruckmen are!

What's fair compensation for Geelong now? Sydney has thrown away pick 22 in the Seaby deal, which would have been a fair swap. 38 won't be good enough and 14's a bit rich. Mumford and 33 for pick 14?

they have 28 as part of the staker/seaby/buchanan deal.

that will probably come to play.

dunno why geelong thing he will be their number one ruck

for the moment: seaby> mumford

Thanks classy, didn't realise about 28. Not sure if Geelong would accept that straight up, but should go close.

The Cats are whinging cos Mumford wants to go to Sydney to be number 1 ruckman for 4 years and a million dollars.

What are the Cats offering?

3rd backup behind Blake and a pittance because they have no room in the cap.

How can they begrudge him this move..? Absurd.

If they REALLY want Mumford to stay that badly, they'd hand him the salary allocated for Mark Blake and send Blake elsewhere.

Given that the average wage of a footballer is $180,000 and Mumford is an improving ruckman being offered $260,000 a year, I dont think it's that big of a deal.

What's Warnock on?

Hey I'm no expert, not even close, I tend however to think that there are a few people on here that really know their stuff.

In the same breath I find it amazing that so many people on Demonland just write players like Mumford off, suggesting he's not even worth considering. Yet an expert in the field, Paul Roos is willing to offer a 4 year deal worth over one million dollars whilst the current premiers, who just lost him, publicly state their displeasure.

Reminds me of the same bunch that wrote Prismall off this time last year and wouldn't entertain us forwarding an offer of Pick 35!

It's the 4 year deal more so than the money.

1mil for 4 years is reasonable, but [censored] that's a very good contract for a 23 year old who so far is going on potential alone.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

The Demons were blown out of the water in the first quarter and clawed their way back into the contest but it was a case of too little too late as they lost another close one to Carlton losing by 1 point at the MCG.
