Carlton asking for more!

Still don't agree.

Most here don't even want to use pick 50

...which is why we should attempt to use it to our advantage in a trade.

Giving it to Carlton just because they're detestable swine (nice one pantaloons) isn't using it to our advantage. Using it to improve our position in earlier draft picks is using it to our advantage.

Including Pick 50 in the McLean package is just giving away a freebie. I'm not trying to be patronising here, I just can't see where you're coming from and I know you're a good poster, so I'd like to.

You're right.

If we can turn Pick 50 into something in the 30s, we would have been kissed on the dick.

Tee hee.

My point is why would Carlton agree to something that clearly disadvantages them.

And by the same token, doesn't trading pick 50 for absolutely nothing disadvantage us?

When Melbourne and Carlton look to sign off on what is an absolutely fair deal, I'd be staggered if Melbourne caved in and gave up a useful bargaining chip for trading for the rest of the week. If we throw pick 50 in, we're significantly decreasing our chances of bettering pick 34. As I said before, pick 27 may be too high for the 34 + 50 upgrade, but its certainly in the range I'd be looking at. That's worth pursuing far more though than chucking something to Carlton for nothing.

No, it doesn't disadvantage us in the slightest because we will not be using pick 50 anyway!

I'd be delighted if we could get 27, but I find it a ridiculous notion. Why would Carlton blow out their first pick in the draft by 7 players so they can upgrade a later pick that no club wants to use in a shallow draft?

If Carlton are so desperate for something else to come their way in this trade then Melbourne should throw in draft pick 50 seeing as we wont use it anyway, agree with you entirely Pantaloons.

Carlton are at it again they are going back on their word, on McLean they want a better deal they want to swap second round picks, you cant trust carlton, they are not going to let this deal happen quickly as first thought, they will hold out, this is going to effect trade week for melbourne, not much will go through they might go back on the whole deal,i hate Carlton, and don;t care if we let him go to the psd. Also does anyone find it strange how everyone is going to carlton or hawthorne, both must be feeling the salary cap pressure

They're just trying to get a better deal, but the deal will remain at McLean for pick 11. Nothing to get worked up over, the in-principle agreement won't fall through.

Deal will go through. Otherwise there will be legal action.

The Age: "Club chief executives, Cameron Schwab and Greg Swann shook hands on it two weeks ago."

Worst that can happen is we'll get pick 11 at the death, which will only matter if we want to use the pick for someone else, and don't get the chance. <_<

I truely believe Carlton had no intentions of trading Fevola and have only done so at such a high price to save face with their original promise of sacking him over his next major drunken embarrasment

Carlton without Fevola is a big hole in their " we are coming " slogan and they know it

Now they have already made a verbal agreement to trade pick 11 for Brock Mclean pending medical clearance

Think they trying the sob story move and wanting a little extra simply because they can with the Fevola diversion

No thanks Carlton , Its YOUR problem not ours

Taking the red and blue hat off for a minute.........the deal is a genuinely fair one for both parties, and obviously both CEO's agreed if they have shaken on it. Poor form by the Blues here.

Article in the Herald Sun:

Herald Sun

"Demons could move him on for the right deal, which could be a second or third round pick.

They rate Buckley highly, but have others who play a similar role.

Carlton is one of the clubs linked to Buckley, with the Blues also believed to be interested in Daniel Bell."

Please yes, Blues can have him as well as McLean.

Clubs have to take 3 picks - pick 50 is Carlton's 3rd pick in that scenario.

Carlton may want to to take more than 3 picks - it's not uncommon and all of their later picks are upgraded.

As Pants says, if they want to take 4 or 5 then it's currently

27, 43, 59, 75, 91

vs

34, 43, 50, 59, 66

50 is 25 picks earlier than 75.

It's now 12.40 am - and no confirmed deal on Brock.

Are Carlton going back on their word? Does their hand-shake mean anything?

I thought Carlton were now trying to be all sweetness and light - getting rid of Fev etc. How about sticking to promises?

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
