All eyes will be on young players hoping draft camp will ensure their future. 3 players whom I hope MFC look favourably at will not be attending, SCULLY, TRENGOVE & TEMEL.

Morabito will no doubt be the star attraction. What others do you see could highlight?

I imagine Scully and Temel will turn up for interviews with clubs and other non sporting procedures.

Actually maybe Scully won't it's not as if any other club will interview him, he's already a Melbourne player ;)

So Trengove is not attending? Surely he could rock up one day for interviews and measurements etc? I may be wrong but didnt Daniel Rich do the same thing last year as he had a final to concentrate on also?

Also heard somewhere Scully will be there for just interviews and measurements.

Surely Scully can be measured for his MFC jumper somewhere else.

Trengove might attend the SA state based screenings which is usually a few weeks later

Correct weight, October 10th it is this year, so I'd imagine he'd attend that...

As for Temel, he's not attending because he wasn't good enough... Really need to calm down over this bloke, he's in great form, but from all reports he lacks the athleticism and agility to be a dominant force at AFL level... Much better key forward prospects out there...

I am deeply sorry if I am wrong once again with my topic- however it is my believe that the draft camp is this week-Tue, Sept 29 – 2009 Draft Camp begins, AIS Canberra

Fri, Oct 2 – 2009 Draft Camp ends

As you rightly point out he may attend the SA screenings but exams will most probably around or at least he will be preparing for them.

Also, one of the best footballers I have seen in the last decade Adam Goodes wasn't invited and after kicking, I think 5 goals in the Grand final Under 18 he was picked up by the Swans (pick 54 by memory.)Temel is going to be a sensational footballer. Any footballer who kicked 22 goals over the 4 finals is a very good prospect. Unfortunately in reflection we probably will not get him as he will go under 11. He is the most promising tall, I have seen for the last 10 years, since Goodes. I rate him better than Franklin at this stage in their careers.

Thats a very big call.....

Re Temel: Big call. Wrong call. Terrible call. Won't be picked up in top 40. Have seen him play. H's ok. Not a star. Never will be. Have absolutely no idea why people here are close to ejaculating over the prospect of picking him up. Has not warranted this attention.

wow- pringle what a call- gee I have a bit of spendoler to place a bet that he goes under 40. Wish you were a bookmaker.

What sort of money do you want to put on that he won't be available at 11?

You over-rate Temel significantly. He's not going to Draft Camp for a reason.

I repeat -my statement was he would go before 40,not 11 -

I respect others viewpoints. However, to say one believes he will be there for our pick , currently at 34. Gee I hope this would be true. Please explain to me why , with his performance he is not better than Butcher, Carlisle, Griffiths as far as current performances. Cannons were in 7th place at the start of the finals, He kicked 8, then 7, then, I think 2, then 5, in the GF.

To me, in watching under age football for 40 years, this is an unbelievable performance - re consistency and accurracy.

I watched him in all finals. This is where performance counts. Cannot think of another forward with a record like this.

If he does not go before 40 - I will give up.

But if I am right,I will remind you & Pringle. Bring on November 26th.

I'm pretty sure he's going to the Victorian state screening. You'll get all the info on his athleticism there.

looks to be a man playing against boys. Wouldn't punt on him with a top 20 pick.

Im glad scully and trengrove wont be attending. Recruiters have seen them in action and what they are capable of, anyone willing to snubb them over some draft camp tests should be sat in the corner. I remember Daniel Rich last year was not a standout at draft camp which contributed to his slip in the draft and I'am sure opposition sides like Cartlon are kicking themselves and demanding answers from their recruiters.

Sorry, must have been someone else at your computer.

Butcher, Carlisle and Griffiths all currently appear to rank higher because their attributes are more likely to translate into performance at AFL level as they fill out. Each of those players has really good speed, which is what you need at AFL level in order to get separation on your opponent on the lead. Running ability is massively important in the modern game.

Every year the forums get flooded with claims that we should pick up XXX who played well in the TAC Grand Final, because people only get to watch one game of underage football all year and make their judgements based on that. Do you remember any of these players - Jordan Barham, Ashley Arrowsmith, Jesse D Smith, Stephen Dinnell?

Temel could go on to be a good player, but his type will often dominate at this level because they have matured far earlier and have a massive strength advantage over his their opponents. Jack Watts went at number 1 because he had speed and agility which let him dominate, so he still has the improvement left in him when he matures into a bigger body (which Temel already has).

Does Temel have the athleticism to make it in the AFL? I don't know, because I've only seen him a few times. However I would say that there are other players around that have no such question marks.

For the record- Griffiths is injury prone, Butcher failed both Maffra & Under 18 finals ,ditto Carlisle whom spent quite a considerable amount of time on the bench in the GF.Temel kicked 22 goals in 4 finals.

He did very well, but would he get a touch at AFL?

The key to recruiting is to imagine what the player will be like at AFL level when he develops fully. Temel is already mostly developed, so you just have to imagine how he would have played in the TAC Grand Final with Matthew Warnock playing on him - ie someone who is as tall and strong as him but much faster.

The pace of AFL is so, so much faster than TAC Cup, so athleticism is far more important.

FWIW, Butcher may not be able to kick, but his athleticism and hands will potentially make him a far better key forward than Temel. Butcher is only skinny and currently struggles body on body, but runs very well. He has underperformed this year but has the attributes to be very good. Carlisle is similarly as skinny as a rake and played a lot of his time as a defender, but has a lot of attributes that excite like speed and skills. Griffiths is injury prone, but has far, far more potential than Temel due to his speed.

But if I was recruiting for an under 18 team then I'd pick Temel early due to his early development. But the MFC doesn't play under 18s.

I worry about MFC's ability to predict with some kids. Obviously BP is off the hook here as he hasn't been at the job long, but if our "predictions" regarding the upside of players is so good, why do we have so many duds? Lack of recruiting resources?

I think it's one of the reasons people are so excited about Trengove. He's just a known entity. Upside never seems to work for MFC.

I agree with the call though, hes big & strong now against kids but dont think hes got much upside or improvement. He wont grow much more so there goes his advantage, also he may have kicked some goals in the last few weeks but whats he done for the rest of the year.He didnt even get invited so that means not even 1 club has expressed intrest in him at this stage. Not saying he wouldnt get piocked but at best id say rookied by a club with no tall forwards,ie Kangaroos & richmond.Personly dont rate him but time will tell & i could be wrong

Daniel Talia has been injured for 2 months.

Probably won't be at draft camp either!

Calder Cannons stated today that they expected him to be there.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
