Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

there is no key forward worthy of pick 11. talia is a better backman, panos is worthy of pick 18, and carlisle no thanks.

I actually tend to agree with you - assuming Butcher doesn't slide that far.

Unfortunately i also agree with you, i dont think this is where we are going to find our KPF were looking for.

Wich is why i hope we just go for best available, if talia is available at pic 11 i definitely take him but i dont think his a KPF.

dont know a lot about Panos, never seen him, but from what ive read and the fact we need a ff , in this supposedly shallow draft , after securing the best two mids, woluld take him, made AA, was he the best of a bad bunch? time will tell, worth pick 11

You know what this means?

There is going to be a KPF picked up at 11 or after who is going to be an out-and-out gun.

As Freak says none, there shall be one.

At least...

Kids always wrong is where I am going with this...

i'd do it. draft picks are MASSIVELY overrated on here

Couldnt agree with u more mate everyone keeps saying its a weak draft i reckon we'd be stupid not to dangle

the bait in front of other clubs... but in saying that wells is another that i'd take if he was the best available in the PSD

personally i dont think we need someone like wells but if he was a freebee you'd welcome him with open arms, he still could improve

i guess.... ;)

Unlike Freak, I actually quite liked the look of Carlisle, but am uncertain if he warrants a pick 11 at this stage of his development. It might be a slight gamble. But that's what the best recruiters are paid to get right.

Has anyone else heard this. At the VFL GF I heard it was a done deal Daniel Wells for pick 11 and a player.

We know he has had a hard time at the Kangaroos and believes our indigenous environment is the new start he needs.

Geez I hope not.

I expect the club to take 2 mids @ 1 & 2 picks. Then a classy mobile tall like Daniel Talia with pick 11.

Just imagine Watts, Morton, & Talia all able to rotate positions, Morton & Talia able to play forward & back.

I don't want a Koschitzke type forward who is not good when the balls on the ground or the weathers inclement, the guy plays too much as a tall & not good enough when the ball hits the deck.

I don't rate Talia. Not at 11 anyway. He's not the most athletic mover I've seen and an average to poor kick. He'll be a good defender, but I'd want a better key forward at 11.

You must have been watching a different game to me @ the Dome champs.

He looked great to me, & moved beautifully when pushed into the middle for the last Qtr changing the game.

I'm highly impressed by him.

I'd take him for pick 11. Some people are very quick to forget how damaging Wells was when North were playing well a couple of years back. He is a very classy player who would complement our inside mids (Jones, Moloney) and provide sufficient pace to break the lines. Can kick goals on the run and has a bit of 'x-factor'. Could also be used to play a Davey-type role as has excellent foot skills and might even allow us to release Davey back into the forward line for stints throughout the year. Or he could eve play on a half back flank as a damaging rebounding defender. Or what even a forward goal sneak teaming up with Jetta, Jurrah, Davey, (Watts - odd man out), and Aussie. Now that is an exciting bunch of indigenous fellas all capable of the freakish.

Understandaby there are question marks over his fitness, but which of his injuries will affect him long-term? (I don't recall exactly why he has been missing games, so maybe someone can fill me in, but I don't think they have been serious injuries). Colin Sylvia had some frustrating years with injuries and most of us had given up on him, but most would now rate him in our top few at the club. Wells is one year older, has plenty of time and has already shown he is up to it at this level. And on top of this, he is only 25, about to reach his prime over the next few years and would be a senior indigenous figure to act as a role model for the likes of Jetta, Bennell, Jurrah and Aussie. Pick 11 may end up being Bren Grgic or Nick Smith for all we know. There are no guarantees in a draft pick, and considering we already have picks 1 and 2, plus 18 , I don't see why we can't take a punt on an established player in the 24-28y.o. age-bracket that is not only threadbare at our club, but also not too old that he won't be around during our next tilt at a flag.

I'd rather take a punt on a tall in the draft.

If you gave me a straight swap btw Wells and Mclean, i would've strongly considered it and probably done it but since we've got pick 11 already, I would rather punt on a tall in the draft.

These calls for "taking a punt" at pick 11 bemuse me. When this "punt" doesn't work out it will be the supporters in 4 years time bemoaning the poor pick by our recruiter.

Our recruiter won't be taking a "punt" on anyone at 11. That's not to say that they'll get the choice right, btw.

You don't think recruiting a runaway or discard from another AFL team is a 'punt'???

He's not favouring getting Wells, he is just saying that supporters arguing for using a first round pick on a speculative tall - a punt, as it were - will become zombified hypocrites when they turn around in 4 years time and criticise the 'punt' for not being successful.

Some might, thats OK, but not me. I commit to a strategy & stick by the decision, if it doesn't work out you do something different.

I don't think a pick @ 11 is to big a risk.

Choosing to take a pick over a player is a gamble (or certainly more of a gamble than taking someone who has already played AFL footy for a while).

I was happy for us to trade TJ for a punt at what we could find in the draft at 16.

Whether we'd drafted Weetra or Grimes wouldn't have made the decision to trade TJ for that pick in the draft any better or worse.

A pick is an opportunity - recruiting, development and luck decide on the outcome.

As with the TJ trade, I'm for taking the pick regardless of how pick 11 turns out.

What ?

I don't want Wells in case there's any confusion. I want the best player available at pick 11. We need talls, but if it's considered that the best available at 11 isn't a tall then I don't want to "punt" on a tall.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
