there is a rumour that andrew lovett still wants to be traded by essendon, he will be having a meeting with matthew knights 2moro

by the looks of it he has got his head into shape and a change might be best for him!!

do you think melbourne football club will be interested :)

The sort of player he is we would be very interested in.

Pros

- Has leg speed

- Carries the ball better than anyone in the comp.

- elite kick

- Is a goal kicker

- Hasn't missed many games through injury and started his career at 22

Cons

- Poor defensively

- From all reports is a space cadet

- Is turning 28 next yr

What we'd have to give up?

- Last yr in a qaulity draft the Bombers were willing to settle for a late 2nd round (Geelongs) although started driving a harder bargain at the last minute. So presumably they think he's worth an early 2nd round 20-25. Given the supposed shallow draft of 09 i think he's worth a pick ~ 20.

- If we wanted him having the 1st PSD selection allows us to drive a hard bargain, although given there will be others clubs interested Essendon may be able to choose who they deal with. Id imagine they'd be after our pick 18.

The verdict.

Ive just been watching some footage of Lewis Jetta.

http://www.afldraftinfo.com/2009/05/lewis-...tswa-video.html

He reminds me of a young (he's 20) Andrew Lovett, he is very quick, has elite game sense, is very creative and is a pretty good kick. He has been dominating a WAFL level earning BOG in the WAFL state side and playing well in swan districts final win on the weekend. He is worth our pick 18 and id go for him over Lovett.

BTW i think the club will also be investigating the availability of Danyle Pearce.

yer i think danyle pearce would be a good pick up for us

but once again they will be asking for something good in return

lewis jetta is a likely type but has said he wants to go 2 the eagles!!

Good assessment.

The conclusion should be: definitely not.

I'd say the same with Pearce too, I think.

Out of the 2 yes, but I think he'd cost more than pick 18 and Lewis Jetta who will probably still be on the board at that stage will probably be a very similar player, but have more years in his legs.

yer fair enough i see where your coming from

but ive heard the eagle are expected to take lewis jetta pretty highly, and would u pick up a player that wants to be somewhere else

what would you give up for lovett or pearce!! :)

Jeez. Pick 20 is WAY too high.

I'd be interested in Lovett-Murray... but not Lovett. Not for that price. PSD might be a good pick up.

I just don't like him going the other way. He's dangerous and quick, but meh... Not worth moving heaven and earth for.

a 17 year old saying he'd like to stay in his home state and play for the team he barracked for as a kid is not the same as saying he wants to be someplace other than MFC.

If you had have asked Bennell or Jetta 12 months ago where they would want to be, I doubt they would have specifically chosen the Dees.

Likewise, it won't prevent us from picking Scully who is a tigers supporter, and it didn't stop us choosing Blease.

Same as it won't stop us from selecting Trengove from SA if we decide he is the best at pick 2.

No to either Lovett. One is culture problem and too old and the other is not good enough to worry about

yes i know that but most kids will say im happy to go where ever

n jetta said he hopes the eagles only pick him up

so obviously thats where he wants to play

Would not be surprised to see Jetta taken with West Coast's first pick depending on who is on the table. I reckon he will be a bolter ala Stephen Hill. Has the attributes that clubs are looking for in pace and disposal. Stocks have risen significantly recently.

For the record, I've been living in SA the past year and have been burdened with Adelaide's horrendous footy coverage. Trust me, it's so bad that you'd think there are only two teams in the AFL.

At any rate, I've been able to watch Danyle Pearce close-up and wouldn't touch him with a ten-foot pole. If you want to go back to the dark old days when we had a team full of down-hill skiiers, Danyle's your man. Soft outside player whose shoulders slump the minute his team loses the toss.

Lovett would be great to have, and would help make our team the most exciting in the League, but I don't think he'd really be able to help us win a Premiership, which is what we're all after.

Lovett-Murray is, in my opinion, highly underrated. I'd definitely take him if I had the chance,

I'd love it if that happened. I don't think he's worth a pick that high and I'd rather take someone else at pick 34, let alone 18.

You're kidding aren't you? While we are at it why don't we recruit Leigh Brown, Gibson, Raines and any other spud so we can put another spoon in the trophy cabinet

If the crystal ball told me Lovett would be injury free and stays out of trouble for 3 years, then I'd offer pick 18. Or maybe a 3rd round draft pick packaged with a promosing second tier youngster like a Jetta or a Cheney?

27 and having mental problems tells me would shouldn't offer anymore than pick 34. It would be great if we could get him in the PSD. Stay away from Lovett-Murray he's a woeful footballer.

One man's trash.

He doesn't pick up loads of possessions, but I like his height, pace, and kick. I've seen enough to consider him... And from what I understand, except for the odd on-field blue, he's not a mental case...

Nope. We don't need players that only come alive when it is party time. We need fellas that will kick the goal that will get you back in the game.

One of the points used to justify trading away Travis was that he was turning 28 the following year. We most certainly haven't reached the stage in the cycle where we need to pick up players of that vintage at the expense of youth unless they are specialists such as absolute top shelf ruckmen type.

I'd smash your crystal ball. Why would you recruit a flashy inconsistent 28 yo with considerable off field issues into a side with a LT view of achieving real success? Pick 18???

WJack's right. Two years ago we traded a talented inconsistent 28 yo with of field issues and now you wont to recruit one back in. Still pining for Travis?

Agree. He's too inconsistent and comes with heavy baggage.

Pick 18.

Lovett Murray

If he's in PSD, I'll still strongly consider it.

If due diligence finds him unreliable, that's fine don't draft him but he is still a good player who could be one of those 'A change of club might be the change he needs'.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
