Kick off time approaching. There's a wide gulf between the two clubs in terms of AFL credentials. The Scorpions have one senior listed player in Michael Newton and two rookies in Shane Valenti and Trent Zomer. Pies have 15 AFL senior listed players and 6 rookies and their only non AFL listed player is former Bomber Damien Peverill who has a wealth of experience.

What a pathetic post.

I am not interested in casey finals but whats best for the Dees.

Lately I have had a suspicion that Bailey wants all players fit for preseason in early October.

He dropped Bartram Miller and Dunn but they did not play for Casey. They were promoted for

St Kilda game.

I think all that Bailey is thinking about is next year and getting players to have a full preseason.

I think Bailey is doing a fantastic job so far. I would be happy to win 8 games next year building

up to a flag in 2013.

Finals experience with Casey means next to nothing

Finals experience even in the 2's is important for the development of young players. Playing in "pressure" games also builds character and resilence and really tests skill levels and decision making. Collingwood certainly has their share of younger players going around today.

Bailey is doing a reasonable job with 2010 being the crunch time for his coaching career....if there is no major improvement in ladder position for the team then I believe he will be replaced. He has mastered the media to the extent he is cruising under the radar of major criticism, but this will change next year if we again show just promise and no significant improvement.

Let's all hope our recruitment guys do the business in the coming drafts. We have a real chance to build the list with some quality youngsters and do not want to blow this one.

Fingers crossed we enjoy improved results in 2010, but my suspicion is we will have a new coach by the end of the year.

Really like the game of Valenti....he's a hard nut who while not the quickest going around usually makes the right decisions and executes......let's hope he get more opportunities at senior level next year

(as an aside....the pies' Barham is looking like a 70's porn star...he needs a number one)

The issue is really with the club showing some good judgements on selecting players with the credentials to add value to the team.....I would take Valenti over a flashier player because of his 100% commitment and desire to make every contest count. He is highly skilled and poised under pressure....he also lifts others around him and is a real solid type. He should be retained and promoted to the 1's on a more regular basis.

Newton should go before Valenti. Young Isaac has skills, but usually fails to deliver when it counts...we have persisted too long with him and should move "e=mc2" along with some real kinetic energy.

I hope this doesn't turn ugly between Casey and us cause I like the alignment. I think you do have to ask questions on why Dunn and Bartram didn't play a couple of weeks ago which would have made them eligable and why Cheney didn't play today.

I don't think it would have made much of a difference. Collingwood's best players played like that they want to be promoted to the seniors while Casey were not desperate enough and turned the ball over far too often. Casey were simply outclassed.

sad end to the year for casey.

id still like to hear any responses from gladiator or any other aggrieved casey supporters to my previous comment...

hopefully next year the dees can have a great run with injury allowing the alliance to flower. i really thought the sides gelled and looked good together this year, and this issue has only come up in the past 2 weeks. remembering that the mfc had over 20 players on the injury list i dont think that this situation would be a regular occurrence.

gladiator, and anyone else associated with casey, i understand 100% how you would feel aggrieved. in fact, i would be dissapointed if we told young players they couldnt play finals simply in case they get injured.

however, it really does not appear to be the case. only a handful qualified, and of the qualifiers most of them are injured and either havent been playing for the mfc either, or are having surgery to get them fit and ready so they can play with their employer next year.

can anyone who is aggrieved please tell me which players they believe should be playing this week who aren't? maybe we can sort out specifics.

VFL record said that Kyle Cheney was eligable to play and Jordie McKenzie was also. So dissapointed they couldn't make an appearance, although they may have picked up injuries against the Saints who knows? Wouldn't have made much of a difference but would have been great to see the likes of Watts, Blease & Strauss out there if they hadn't of picked up those injuries during the year. There's always next year I guess!

the reason for melbourne not supplying casey with players was because when they tanked a number of players were rested ( injured ? ) so to play them with casey would have looked bad.There were at least eight players available too play against collingood.Some players were told not to play and some were offered the chance and declined.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the club require any out of contract players to sign a waiver to play with Casey in the finals?

Because if an out of contract player suffered a significant injury, like an ACL, playing for Casey, they would be required to be kept on the list next season... Ie. the club couldn't delist them? I remember hearing something along these lines a couple of years ago, with the likes of Guy Rigoni I think it was, signing a waiver to play with Sandy in the finals serires...

This might have been significant for the likes of Cheney amongst a couple of others, who didn't want to jepordise their entire career...

Having said that, they wouldn't have made much difference from the looks of things...
