This is purely hypothetical. Football is a business and it's all about securing your financial future. The debt demolition has raised close to $800k. Imagine getting the whole club together and saying listen we have a shot at clearing our debts for life. If you could, would you place the $800K on Melbourne to beat St Kilda at $12 odds?

Might seem silly to some but securing your financial future with a lazy 9.6 million from 2 hours of footy isn't that bad.

How ridiculas!

Even if our best team was playing we are miles away from being able to beat the saints. Add to that our 20 person odd injury list and we are no chance.

How many times has the last team beaten the top team in the second half of the season? I would suggest that this has been rarely acheived in 112 years of AFL/VFL football.

And risk going further in debt? No.

If I had squillions though, I'd wipe it off for my club. But unfortunately I don't.

A 50% chance of blowing $800,000 or even greater chance of going backwards financially again.

Stupid idea. Glad our club is now in the hands of positive business minds who wouldn't dream of anything like this.

We need to have forward thinking, positive acting, plan forming initiatives, that are based on fact , not hope!

spot on

we do NOT want to win so putting the money out would be just throwing it away

To lose $800k now, in such a manner, would be the unequivocal death of the club. All support for Debt Demolition would vaporise, the AFL, MCC and all other contributors would never be able to back us again, and the fans would turn away in disgust at both the gambling fixation and the sheer recklessness of the club leadership. I wouldn't make that bet even if it was a genuine 50/50 chance and the odds were still $12.

The important thing right now is to recognise that the Melbourne Football Club is turning a corner. We don't need to look at miracle cures or white knight benefactors, we need to work hard and smart on a day to day basis.

There was something Cameron Schwab said recently that struck a cord with a few people, forgive me if I get the quote slightly wrong -

"It's not about doing exceptional things, it's about doing things exceptionally well"

What a stupid idea. We should be putting it on red 23 and we could win 28.8 million. A nice gold house and a rocket car for all our players.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
