Jamar is currently our Nm 1 ruckman. Like most ruckman he has taken a long tme to mature. He started to hit his straps last year and in the games he has played this year he has clearly been our best ruckman - a physically mature hardened ruckman who is competitive at stop ball situations, has good second efforts, can take a contested grab and likes to be physical. Having just turned 26 there is no reason why he can't play a role in MFCPS13.

If he does go it will weaken our team. Of course it could all be the mere speculation that abounds at this time of year!

Defence is probably the only area where we were superior. At least on paper. Jeez people have jumped on Thornton haven't they?

Carlton kicked 23 goals!!! Even on paper we had Warnock and Garland out. Carlton would have a better defence with Waite and Jamieson there. Thornton's honest but no star.

Oh... and I think on a day with some kind of defence in place, Jamar and Robbo would have kicked 2 or 3, making it hardly a newsworthy day.

They kicked 5 goals each and its newsworthy and our forward line was not the problem.

What I don't get, is that Ratten didn't angle for a 100 point win. Why so uncommitted? Were we just better than he thought we'd be? It would only have helped CFC...

In the 2nd qtr we had Martin, Jurrah, Jamar and Robbo. Not a crumber inside the Fwd 50. I cant think we even had a solid tag. Its hard to chide Carlton where MFC has put the rack in the cue.

We are short of a good ruckman. We werent short a culture and talent waste like TJ who it was clear was not tagged that day and his performance was an aberration.

No sometimes, trades can benefit both, either or even neither club. There is no hard and fast rule on that.

Your point? I think it's more a reflection of the fact I thought Frawley was really good early on, and Rivers was solid. And given that they had COMPLETE midfield dominance and the lack of taggers, I think the fact the defence did well to rebound as they did, and keep trying to attack.

Well, yeeeah... But this is hardly something to hang our hats on is it? A guy that won't be at the club next year and a guy who will probably never again play as much as he did in the forward line, and CERTAINLY will never play there with as much space as he had. It's newsworthy for the way the game was played. How many other games have we played this year that were all out attack like that? It's newsworthy for it's freainess, not because Jamar kicked 5 against a working defence.

True. I was more referring to their ladder position. If I was a CFC supporter I'd be desperately trying to grasp a double chance. I suppose realistically though, a win in an elimination final would be a pretty good result, and a solid win against us made them certainties to be 5trh or 6th.

The rotations, I thought, were due to injuries everywhere. But you make a good point. This was reminiscent of the Tiges game in many ways. Certainly after half time. I still take a lot of positives from the Freo game, where Bailey was allowed to actively try to win. That says more about where we are at than a freak 5 goal performance to Jamar and Robbo, and a shootout against the Blues where we never really turned up.

Credit to Jamar though, I really should say. I really quite seriously would have given him about a 1 percent chance of ever kicking 5 in his career. I was wrong about that much at least.

It would be interesting to see what the Russian would have produced this year if injuries had not stopped him from playing so much this year. When he has played he has been good.

It would be great from a flexibility point of view if Mark Jamar and Stef Martin could rotate between Ruck, Forward Pocket and the bench and then play another midfielder. I think our first choice forward line 2010 would be:

Woenamarri Jurrah ??????

Davey if not needed upfield or Maric if in form could play there or if we wanted to go tall we could play Martin or Jamar there.

Defence is the one area I'm really bullish about, our best defence is better than theirs.

But it doesn't matter when your midfield is a siv and lets in 64 entries from very good kicks.

cant quite recall where or when but I seem to remember something about the club saying 1 and 2 are not for trading.. pick 18 and Jamar for Boak is the best they could expect on curent picks. Trade week can throw up some intersting permutations however

Find an alternative means. Pick 18 could be the pick that the club might manoeuvre on for trade(s). If it's at all possible to use PSD#1 for a current player, I'd prefer it this way.

TBH, I wouldn't mind this scenario either for the PSD pick. We've had a pretty good track record the last couple of years.....Jurrah, Martin

Pick 2 for Boak? Is he worth pick 2? Maybe - IMO he isn't. I'd prefer Trengove myself.

I'd take Boak for pick 18 and a player (ie Rivers). But I'm not sure Port would be happy with that. But I think it's pretty reasonable. They get a 25-26 year old defender who is surely rated in football circles and comes with value with plenty of footy left, plus the first pick of the second round, therefore a reasonable pick at 18 in the Draft - a chance to get a pretty good young player as well as Rivers, and we would get Boak, admittedly a former No.5 pick.

Firstly, I'd hate to lose the calibre of Rivers, but look at our youth in our backline. Garland, Frawley, Warnock, Cheney, Bennell, Grimes, as well as some others that can adapt down back in Green, Petterd, Bruce, Buckley, Strauss, McDonald.......I think I'm even missing some(one)....

Then look at our midfield - Jones, McLean, Moloney, Sylvia, Davey - we'll get more options in Scully & perhaps Trengove, but we may need a bit more. Someone like Boak who is young would be a good fit and he can adapt to different roles too.

Was on the cusp in 07 and 08 of becoming a topline consistent mid, but has regressed this year. A return home could do him the world of good. Maybe straight swap for jamar

The best think now is we hold all the draft/Trading aces, we will get pick 1,2,18 and so on plus the most valued pick in terms of trade week pick 1 in the PSD, if Boak or any other player wants to come home and play for us, you take what pick we give you or we get them for nothing in the PSD.

I'm not to keen on trading for a 24 years old who is in and out of a side that can't perform consistantly. He could turn out to be a gun if he came to Melbourne but id rather have a crack at Boak.

A former Premiership player who works in the media told Tony Shaw that only 3 or 4 current players wanted to play under Williams.

I agree that the lack of defensive pressure by both sides made the game look more like a game of basketball going end to end. Its was a game at 3/4 pace with no sting or urgency in it.

Jamar 5, Robbo 5 and we didn't have an attack. FWIW, I thought we were inferior through the midfield and with the use of the ball

RR I would have thought that was the intention!! seemed clear to me with the late withdrawn midfielder replaced by another tall!! Problem was that Carltank were very ordinary in the first half and it nearly backfired!!

Russian could not kick a behind at all on Saturday from any angle. Was very solid especially as a couple came from second efforts after marking contests!

I really do think we should do all in our power to get Boak. This kid even has finals exp playing in a Preliminary against Kangers a few years back. Speaks very well in the media which is always good.
