A bit surprised to see Miller go before Martin. We all know that Martin has a much brighter future than Miller, but on last week's performance, Miller was streets ahead. If Martin isn't injured, then that makes me disappointed in Martin's game last week.

I thought Miller did enough to retain his spot. Guess not.

In all fairness, Dunn's past month has been good, and he didn't deserve to be dropped. Could be considered a tanking move, but he should have played. It wouldn't make a difference.

The three dropped players' futures are very shaky.

Agree regarding Dunn. He has been pretty handy the last month. Maybe they want to see a bit more of McKenzie titan. Maybe they've realised Dunn has done enough. Or have asked him to work on something else at Casey. Important game for Casey? (is he qualified for Casey for finals)

Why would it be the end of Bartram? I thought he's been playing decent football of late, and is no longer a 'danger' to us when he is about to dispose of the ball as he had been in the past. Plenty of players have been rotated through our side over the last 6 weeks, you couldnt play Whelan, McDonald and Bartram all together as we dont need 3 back pockets, so Batram gets rested to get Wheels to his 150th.

Also, the Dockers didnt see fit to drop anyone after their stirling display against us last week. Freo. Way to go.

It would be the end of Bartram because he has show again consistantly this year that he is not up to AFL football and has failed to improve in any way since his debut. He has been dropped several times this season which indicates the coaching staff have also lost patience with him. There are far more talented people coming through to play midfield, and he is out of contract at the end of the season. What more do you need?

This has to be the reason for both Bartram & Dunn - I don't know exactly how many games they've played or need to play for the Scorps, but it would have to be this.

Miller I'm not so sure; he wasn't the worst last week, but he's not even picked in the Scorps' side for this weekend.

The last time he got dropped was after his "glare" directed at Jack Watts almost at the end of one game (Essendon?) after Jack put it out on the full (though admittedly he might have got dropped for playing badly that game and not for the bad attitude).

Well, I'm suprised that nobody's commented on Miller's gestures just before our first goal against Freo. Petterd took a mark running with the flight of the ball, with Miller coming in the opposite direction for the chest mark. When Miller's momentum took him past Petterd, he gave some totally uncalled-for hand gestures to the effect that he would have had an easy chest mark if Petterd hadn't pinched the ball off him. It's quite clear on the TV replays from different angles.

I reckon DB would take a very dim view of this sort of display directed towards teammates, especially towards younger players. If DB DID notice this and has decided to give Miller another holiday (and a complete holiday this time) for a repeat offence, then all power to him.

At the ground I thought that Petterd had led to that spot first and that Miller saw the kicker head that way and decided to mosey on over. I'll have to look at the replay, but I remember commenting to my brother that I thought Miller had unnecessarily brought his defender nearer a contest that petterd had covered.

Couldn't help but revisit this.

It's interesting to compara the Blues of '07 with the Dees of '09.

It must be remembered, in any comparison between the two, the way they finished their seasons:

The Dees will have won 3 of our last 9.

The Blues won 0 of their last 11 (in a time where we won 3).

We will have won more matches in the last 9 than Richmond and as many as Fremantle, North, Sydney, Port, Essendon and Hawthorn. (The last 3 aiming for finals).

It should also be considered that had we not lost a match after the siren from a kick 50 out, we'd have won 4 of our last 9, which would leave us ahead of those 7 teams and equal with West Coast and a game behind Geelong.

To put it another way, if there was a ladder for the last 9 games we'd be be around 12th, and without losing after the siren, we'd be 8th-9th

    Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was.
