was resently told that MFC may have a few father-son prospects coming though, is this true?

should MFC change who they pick in the 09 draft, according to who they may get with father-son in a few years?

should MFC set up an introduction camp for father-son prospects?

No.

We have no idea how the father-sons are going to turn out in a few years.

Who are the prospects coming through and what year can they be drafted?

Todd Viney's Son Jack, Steven Stretch's Son, and apparently Grinter's Son is OK. The first two are highly rated.

I'm not completely sure when they're available, but I think Jack Viney would be in the 2012 draft.

I seem to recall a Demon Magazine from around 97-98 with Todd holding an infant Jack on the cover. I remember thinking at the time that with Viney, Lyon and a couple of others having boys there was a chance we could snag a freebie. Mind you father son selections aren't as 'free' as they used to be.

Will any of them be worth a first round pick?
If Jack Viney continues to go on the same path he's on, he ight well be one of the best prospects eligble to be drafted in his year. Would gladly give up a first rounder for him.

Haven't really heard much about Steven Stretch;'s son, and just a bit about Balls' boy.

Set up an introduction camp to obtain father-son prospects?

The mind boggles - is this where MFC footballers can be introduced to young ladies who will provide the greatest chance of securing outstanding progeny?

Our last father/son selection turned out to be a huge success.....

He did his bit. He freed up a spot on the list for Jurrah. What more could a bloke do for the club?

What about Steve Febey and his missus? They could produce a couple of real champs!

Brad Miller and his missus could produce the best looking player yet!!!!! :P

The only issue is if you had multiple f/s that were likely ot go in the same round, then I suppose you would need to pick which one to go for. Otherwise recruiting F/Ss won't change anything, how would it?

If you have multiple f/s in the same year then the bidding sytem still works on the next pick available.

For example, let's say Viney and Stretch are available in the same year and we have a first round pick of 12 and a 2nd round pick of 28. Let's say we think both are worth at least a 2nd round pick. Another club bids pick 10 for Viney, we then have to use our next pick on him, ie pick 12. Another club bids pick 11 for Stretch, we can still use our next available pick, which in this case would be pick 28.

The only thing I'm unsure of is the implications of either trading for or away for picks. In other words if we trade away our 1st round pick are we screwed if another club bids an earlier 1st rounder?

Thanks for clarifying. Given the first example it would be an advantage to to have multiple FS likely to go in the same round, particularly in the first round.

That name though still gives me shudders. I have to get past my prejudices.

Father-Son selections have to be nominated a fair way before the draft -- you sure they aren't done before trade week..?

This may come into play if trading of future draft picks becomes allowed.

I would love to see a Viney, Stretch or Grinter play for us. These will be the first players whose fathers I can remember. I grew up yelling "STRETCHER!!!" everytime he used to have one of his frequent runs down a wing. It would be great if they turned out to be AFL level players.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
