If all these players fit, should make these changes IMO.

IN: Grimes, Jurrah, McLean, Rivers, Watts

OUT: Bail (inj), Bruce (inj?), Miller, Newton, Valenti

Valenti would be stiff, but I feel his role is that of McLean's.

Thoughts???

Valenti wouldn't go out after today's game. If McLean's fit, they'll probably drop McNamara back to Casey.

In: Grimes, Jurrah, Rivers

Out: Bail, P. Johnson, Miller/Newton (toss a coin...)

I'm thinking we could be in for a tough day at the office, cause Freo played well today. Esp. if they regain McPharlin and Roger Hayden...

At this stage we have a good idea of what Miller is capable of. He's a known quantity.

Some would say 'so is Newtown' and you could be right, but he's younger and has had less chances.

I'd be disappointed if Newton is dropped.

Yeah fair call. Miller should go 1st.

But Newton would want to show something in the last 3 weeks...

He didn't show something today? The SEN commentary team tended to disagree, and I agreed with them... Thought he was solid down forward for us today, in an inefficient forward line... Wasn't dominant, but I believe he showed us something...

Yeah, not really enough for a bloke who's been at the club for 5 seasons. I can't see him being anything more than a fringe player tbh.

I would like to see us bring in another KPF prospect at this draft, and groom that player to play in a forwardline with Watts, Jurrah and Bate. I think Newton's had more than enough time at the club to make an impact...

I have a gut feeling that Robbo will be in the side next week and it might even be his swan song.

He was presumably the emergency for today's game and he should be given a send off game and it should be on his beloved MCG.

Better that it should be against the Dockers next week rather than against the Saints in Round 22.

I'm with you on that one.

If Matthew Whelan does not play 150 games it would be a disgrace.

He's already suffered missing out on the 150 greats of the MFC, subdued to the likes of Paul Hopgood.

If fit, he must play 2 more.

Agree. Wheels is a long time favourite of mine (probably most of us tbh), but the years and injury are taking their toll.

Freo aren't that good. I watched their game...they just encountered a Port side, similar to the one we encountered. Today we were playing without our future forwardline (Watts, Jurrah and Aussie) and without 3 of our top 4 best defenders. Our backline instead was chocked full of midfielders and our forwardline included Miller and Newton, two which may not make it. If we play players in their more traditional positions next week, which I don't think we will necessarily, we'll be a far superior side to the one we fielded today. I wouldn't put it past us to beat Freo. Still, I'd rather beat Carlton...my Carlton mate is giving me the shits. About time someone put them back in their box.

He showed me that I'm capable of reaching levels of rage that I never thought possible.

The desperate tanking period of the season is now over, and I hope that with it goes Michael Newton. He can take PJ with him.

Without a shadow of a doubt Matty Whelan deserves 150 games to his name, and Robbo a big farewell match. Same goes for Wheatley.

If Junior is planning on calling it a day, I hope he makes that decision public this week too.

I'm a huge tanking advocate, but we've got the breathing space now to go all out and try and score ourselves one more win before the year is out, and next week is the week to do it (we are no chance of beating Carlton or St Kilda, lets face it). So on that note...

Out: PJ, Newton, Miller, Bartram, Cheney (or Bail if he's not right).

In: Whelan, Jurrah, Robbo, Rivers, Watts

Grimes and McLean are too injury prone to risk, and should sit out the year.

Watts deserves to enjoy a win (assuming he is over the hand injury) and Jurrah and Rivers are obvious ins.

Would be great to actually enjoy a win next week, knowing that picks 1 & 2 are safe!

If they gave that team louse Pickett a 200th game two years ago, Whelan if fit should get his 150th.

In- Watts, Grimes, Jurrah

Out- Newton, Bail, Jetta

I thought Newton and Miller were both quite good in attack today. But Newton will just be pushed out IMO. Same goes with Jetta.

We need to get more games into Watts before season's end.

Team next week:

B McNamara Frawley Cheney

HB Dunn Grimes McDonald

C Davey Moloney Sylvia

HF Miller Watts Bate

F Jurrah Martin Petterd

Fol Johnson Jones Bruce

Int Morton Bartram Valenti Spencer

Emg Jetta Newton Buckley

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned (probably in the matchday thread), but I thought for the first time today, Martin actually looked like a full forward. It looked as though someone had taught him how to kick properly. Admittedly, he didn't kick them all beautifully, but his first shot on goal, was easily the nicest kick I've seen from him. He looked promising today. Throw, Jurrah, Watts and Aussie at his feet and who knows. I was hoping with today's side, Bailey would push everyone up to the 50 and flanks and clear out the 50, leaving Martin one out. Unfortunately, not to be. Perhaps, next week?

Changes for next week v Fremantle

Out: PJ, Newton, Miller

In: Jurrah, Watts, Rivers

Would love to see Watts get a crack against Fremantly when we might actually get some forward entry's (If he plays forward and not just on the wing). Although they did play well today Freo.

Players that might be considered: McLean, Wheatley, Robertson, Buckley, Grimes, Jamar, Jurrah, and Rivers.

I don't know about Rivers, McLean, and Grimes, but Robbo should come back in for a swansong, Buckley should get a run around or two in the last few games. Jamar should be over his quad and come straight into the side.

Bennell and Whelan would still be a week or so away. Wheels might not get back to fitness to reach 150, which would be a shame but at least he won't finish on 99. Hopefully Wheatley also gets a farewell game.

I'm guessing that Rivers, Jamar, and Grimes are right to go.

OUT: Johnson, Bail (inj), Spencer, Bruce (inj), and Newton

IN: Jamar, Robertson, Grimes, Jurrah, and Rivers

Where's Maric? If he's fit he should be in.
I think he had an operation on his shoulder? We will see him next year.

Agree although you can't help bad luck with injuries. Hopefully he gets back to the park.

I don't care if we field the Casey reserves as long as Newton and PJ are not in the team. In fact I'd rather play two men short than play them.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
