It's early days (game 5 to be precise) yet, and it's perfectly possible that Liam will not prove to be as good as those champions you mentioned. However, it's worth considering that it was only last year that Liam first saw the inside of a gym, that up until then he had never lifted a set of weights and had not really ever done any serious training. That suggests to me that there is incredible scope for improvement, as all we are seeing at present is raw talent. Whereas, Reiwoldt, Franklin and Brown, arrived at the AFL after several years of training in development squads, at the AIS academy etc. Even then, my recollection is that it took them a year or two to begin having a big impact at AFL level. Liam has had a big impact from his first touch. Ultimately, comparisons with other players are pointless anyway. Instead, you should all be simply enjoying watching Liam's development as a Demons player, in full knowledge that his best is yet to come. As i've said previously, he still has not had a pre-season yet, and when he's got a bigger engine plus an extra 5 ks of muscle, I reckon he'll be unstoppable. You all know i'm completely biased when it comes to our Warlpiri Warrior, so I probably shouldn't even post anything, but I couldn't help myself.

Several excellent points, what Liam already has is exciting and I think there is immense potential for improvement basis RudeBoy's arguements.

Liam has football nous in abundance plus the ability to play short and tall (often within milliseconds), barring serious injury Liam is going to enjoy a long career creating headaches for opposition coaches, heartache for opposition supporters and nightmares for opposition players.

I was at Casey Fields for Jurrah's first training session and despite some people saying that his kicking lacked penetration (which it didn't) from that point on I knew that he would be something special.

However, what I never expected from Jurrah is the way that he has almost completely taken the heat off young Watts. Like I said in another thread (albeit with a bit of tongue and cheek) I can see these two forming a lethal forward combination with their apparent strengths complimenting each other nicely.

CB..agree Liams rise has afforded some sanctuary for young Watts. As these two develop both physically and awareness they are going to be a huge headache. Good huh Both can roam and dont mind it so leading them away from goals wont accomplish much other than to free up the other. Id hate to be the other coach trying to work out who to put on them. They will both deserve top defenders.Not all teams wil be able to cover them...again... tough !! lol Throw in a third forward with crumbers etc and we might just become a bit dangerous

Like I said earlier I think in this thread, Jurrah and Watts will in a way be helping one another. Certainly the rise of Jurrah will take some focus or 'heat' as you put CB, off Watts. I like your term 'lethal forward combination'.

No he looks alot better than they did at this stage of his development. Liam has that something special that draws people through the gates and makes those around him lift. A few weeks back when Davey handballed to Bennel who kicked it to Jurrah I almost wept at the sheer beauty of what I had just witnessed, when Liam then kicked the goal I thought of perfection and had I just seen it.

I don't think we are kidding ourselves when it comes to Jurrah, I think he actually is that good.

i think we have been a successful side since 87.no flags granted but i believed there was a culture,a win at all costs culture.we have never had an out and out champion,injuries have robbed us of that,but plenty of finals and some good tilts.i was comparing us to richmond who have been starved and now see mirages,hope we dont panic and do the same

I was there in 88 and 2000. Two days Id rather forget if you dont mind. Some pundits call getting into finals a mark of success but when half the teams of a competition make finals its really a farce . Many a coach or scribe attempts to 'spin' a picture of mollified succes by including such ( debatable ) achievements.

There is only one measure of success and thats Premierships. No one really aspires to second place and if they do then they deserve less. You can by all means compare other teams but the real test of how you are going is against your own track record.. Not since Northey have we really looked like causing any work for the historians.

After 4 games, Jurrah is statistically better than all of them comfortably, aswell as Fevola, Tredrea, Lloyd, and pretty much every other gun forward of the last decade. Let's not bother to mention the excitement and impact he is having on the club also. This has all been done off no preseason, and learning English as he goes! Therefore, I have compromised by making the Demons my second team, something which would have been unthinkable before this year.
