The damage that Neeld may have done to this club is potentially alot greater than anyone could have anticipated. If we lose all of Sylvia, Frawley and Watts, we are pretty much cooked for a long, long time to come.

It's a sickening thought because it's a realistic one. We have to move heaven and earth to keep these players, and something tells me that parking Watts in the backline isn't helping one iota in convincing him to stick around. He's not a defender. He's a goal kicker.

Mmmmm...Scully.. now maybe Watts...so much for list management and high picks.....

Watts and Gawn waiting til the end of the season to begin contract talks.

So, IF Frawley, Watts and Gawn want trades and leave - how many members will re-sign.

Unbelievable.

I would be absolutely RAPT to trade Watts in on a good midfielder. His pea-sized heart makes me ever so angry every time I watch him play.

(Not saying he won't end up a good footballer, but I think the number one thing we need right now is heart, and he has none of it. I would trade him - and it pains me to say it - for Mitch Robinson).

Don't worry, it's not about Neeld. All the players back the coach and the direction the club's going in, until they are able to leave for a reasonable offer. (Looks like Neeld will need more than 5 years). A new coach next week who is serious about winning as opposed to rebuilding>>>>Watts averaging 20 pos. and kicking 40 goals for Freo next year.

No reverse Jeff White please.

Of the likes of Frawley, Watts, Gawn and Sylvia being talked on this site as possibly wanting to leave, I'd prefer the MFC concentrate on securing Frawley and Gawn before worrying about Watts and Sylvia.

Watts has done next to nothing in his career to date, lacks heart and avoids contact/physicality like the plague. Sylvia on the other hand, well he's a FA so the ball is out of our court there, plus the rate we're going, he'd be long retired before we even look like a premiership fancy (come to think of it, Frawley would probably be getting long in the tooth by then as well, but he is a must keep. Decent KPD don't grow on trees, and he is the only one we have on our list that comes close to being one).

I hate to say it and others may jump on me but...

Another club had a crap load of their best players leave just before they folded as well (Gary Pert, Paul Roos, Alistair Lynch, Ross Lyon). The only difference is we have been lucky enough to stay on the G while that other club had to move from ground to ground. We have been blessed to have stayed at the G. Our co-tenants are all well supported. We are not.

And for what it's worth, I think on a personal level, Jack should leave the MFC. I would love him to stay but he will never be the player he could be at our club. The people who trotted him out on Queen's Birthday should hang their heads.

Seems to me top clubs like Geelong ( Ottens, Rivers) Hawthorn ( Gibson, Hale) Collingwood ( Jolly, Ball) Swans ( Tippett, Hall) aren't that concerned about draft picks at all. They know they aren't going to get them because they are on top. Just pick off the good players from the cellar dwellers, much easier. IMO Players association and managers have blind sided the AFL on this.

Means 5 year plans for cellar dwellers simply can't work as players depart prior to reaching their peak and you are left with immature kids. Its a nonsense to be hoodwinked by them. Winning should be a week to week expectation.

The potential losses that worry me most for our club are Frawley & Gawn. Silvia may have a couple of years left and Jack Watts hasn't moved up to the consistently good or match winning status.

I think we know where we would be left if we lost all four.

Hope we get on the front foot here.

Where does it state that Gawn is putting off contract talks till the end of the year? Or is it just a rumour?

I reckon Gawn will be a gun ruck man in a few years.

Since when was Watts disgruntled? I agree that he is a natural forward but he did have his best year to date last year in the back half.

Can't blame him if he wants a fresh start.

When our own supporters are so pathetic that they cheer when he gets subbed off, and our coach is such a stubborn moron that he berates him before he even steps foot inside the rooms, then proceeds to play him like a yo-yo, what do you expect?

I'd want to get the [censored] away from this basket case too if I had a limited time frame to have a successful career and I've been treated with such contempt.

This club is a joke. My anger and disgust towards it makes me ashamed, but I can't help it. Look at what the [censored] is going on around us!

I don't want to lose Watts because he has talent, something that is all too rare at Melbourne. I agree that Neeld has done a poor job getting the best out of the players, but by God Watts has put in some insipid soft and weak efforts so far. Edited by Clint Bizkit

I posted this in another thread but it fits here too.

I dont think I can remember the MFC being in such a dire position with players wanting to leave.

Neeld is a nut job and he needs to go. He has actually made us worse which I thought was not possible and is driving players away to top it off (and he wants another 3.5 yrs).

Its like being in a horror movie which never ends with Neeld as the star.

If we can land a BIG NAME coach (Roos, Choco, Eade etc) I am sure the players would rethink leaving but this needs to happen NOW not at the end of the season.

I really hope for all us supporters (and players) this is happening.

If anyone on here has a contact which is reliable with what is going on PLEASE give us some hope?

If we lost Gawn that would be a massive blow.

Gawn has no right to leave. We pay our memberships for years of expensive rehab for this guy, he is a long way from paying this club back. Mazy should not be putting us the the sword on his contract as other clubs circle.

To get better we can not allow any of our top 25 players to leave the club currently, expcially those that will still be in our best 25 in the next 3 years. Frawley, Watts and Sylvia are automatically in our top 22 currently. Gawn has pushed himself into the top 25 after a bad run with his knees. We can't afford to let any of these players go and need to keep trying to improve the list through draft picks, development and blokes who are squeezed out of other clubs such as Dawes was.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
