He has done nothing to show me why he went number 1 pick

I have not read through all 4 pages on this topic so I apologise if it has been already said.

On Friday I spent long periods of the game just watching Jack Watts regardless of where the ball was.

His first quarter was poor and he seemed to be running around trying to get involved rather than sticking to his task. After this I thought he was good although at times he still looked a little lost. This is only experience which we see from almost all rookies in their first games.

Watts moves very nicely, he makes good space and should have had the ball kicked to him inside 50m on at least 4 other occasions. On all of these occasions he was well free in the corridor about 40m out with the ball coming down the wing, leading into space. Either the ball carrier did not see him or decided someone else was in a better position. From where was sitting it looked like he was in the best position in all four occasions. He could have easily had more shots on goal.

I think we should continue to play him, but his VCE will come first.

Mathews watched him for 5 minutes and made those comments. I watched him for about 80 minutes and I say:

"Relax….. Watts will be super star in years to come"

This is just so obvious what Lethal is doing ... its just so predictable.

Job applications via the media ... well supposed it worked from Ben Cousins.

Very smart Mr Matthews ... I like it.

Lets not fall for this crap ... lets all remember any publicity is good publicity.

"LAST Friday night’s fixture was the first time I have seen Melbourne live this season."

Means:

I've watched them properly once this year and yet I feel the need to add my opinion.

Hmmm. By that logic Collingwood will win the next 3 flags based on me watching them live twice this season and both times they dominated the games.

You don't think that the president texting all Melbourne supporters to go to the game to see Jack's debut was over the top?

How many other clubs have gone down that path with any new recruit?

This is called marketing and part of the modern day footballers job, espcially the very good ones playing for a struggling club, is to help market the club, to attract fans and to generate excitement. jack did this and the club will continue to do this with him. He'll earn plenty and the club has to generate his wage the only way it can, get bums on seats. It's not my thing but I think the club is finely starting to operate in a professional manner, so i say good on them. By the way carlton has done the same things with their big recruits.

Not many. But then again not many have a QB fixture - that being the most important game financially for the club, for the season. Sign of the times Jarka. Especially for those with $2million in debt.

Perhaps I'm too old fashioned because I believe that a kid's development should come before any marketing exercises, mind you I think he handled the whole situation extremely well.

I agree, he has a good head on his shoulders. Had they thought he might not of handled the situation, they might of held off for his development.

I really wouldn't worry too much about Matthew's comments or anyone elses for that matter at this stage.

And as for Matthew's article, it continually amazes me in the AFL media world, that stating the obvious passes for insight. He said nothing we don't already know and anything that he left open to question just showed a general lack of research on his behalf. The same rubbish we've heard before.

Agree. That article was a fluff piece if i've ever read one. Absolutely no insight provided, and wouldn't have taken him more than 5 minutes to write. People on here put more effort into posting, i know i at least put some thought into it.

Matthews merely feeding the uninformed masses what they think they already know, and what they want to hear.

For Gods Sake Give Jack Watts a Few Games to get used to the Pace of AFL SENIOR Football Please. Once he gets in the Groove he will become a Great Player as long as he works hard.

Leigh Matthews is paid to write Articles that cause a Headline= sells papers..I don't care if it takes all year for Jack to find his Tempo. He is still at school.

I want him here in 15 years. Don't Burn his Confidence.

He is quick. He just needs to read the AFL Tempo better. With More Game time that will come. Michael Schumacher did not win his first Grand Prix-but he got better with confidence......

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
