Surely tongue in cheek. Did he see the handball merry go round?

Did you see the game? it was our kicking that let us down not handballing. we over handballed a bit but for the most part we managed to get out of it. some of our turnovers by foot however...

HT, I assume you didn't go today, because he meant what he said. We played well enough to win the game today, we weren't given a chance by many (if any), and we led by 22 at one stage. We looked out of it at times in the last quarter but didn't give up. The 'handball merry go round', as you put it, has been there every week this year, and for a lot of last year, but we didn't get smashed, and we kicked 15 goals. We played much better football, and we could easily have won.

Yeah and had Murphy not got injured and Higgins played they would have.

Silly comment.

What if we threw in Garland, Green and Wona as well. Or Watts and Bennell? Did they have the depth out to match those?

I thought we leaked easy goals today that if we had some of our better one on one defenders, would not have happened.

It's not a silly comment.

Obviously you can never predict with certainty whether or not we would have won under slightly different circumstances, but Frawley would have done a much better job on Aker, and he in the end was the difference.

We were all over them for most of the game, and as per usual, let ourselves down with some poor decision making and kicking.

Great result in the end, because we gain respect, and keep the priority picks intact.

Akermanis has always been fairly complementary about Melbourne, even in his Brisbane days. I've noticed when he's been on the Footy Show panel.

For what it's worth, today will be the last time we line up against him.

EDIT: Apparently he's just said he wants to stay at the club until they win a premiership...

If you listen to DB after match press conference he said we handballed badly and to much.

I'm not sure how he would go with a walking frame! Their window is closing, they will loose their best forwards in the next couple of years. He would be better at MFC, we will win a flag before them!

Well Mr Aker has good judgement. I've seen all our recent MCG games, we're improving as we go. The effort today was almost 4 qtrs of hard competitive footy. Still heaps of energy and spirit right to the last (epitomised by Davey, another great game flash!)

Apart from Davey, the foot skills of most of our players let them down too often. On a few occasions they over-used the handball but when it worked and they streamed en masse out of defence, it was exciting to watch. Quite Geelong-esque. Interestingly, today when they did turn it over, their efforts to tackle and make amends and often as not get it back were impressive. Last year, there was none of that hardness.

We have a toughness that is developing each week. That's such an important element of winning sides and not something that has traditionally been associated with Melb in recent years. Imagine when skinny kids like C. Morton beef up!

There was lots to like today. When Robbo flew and was tag-teamed by 2 or 3 of them, Maric was learning to crumb (2 good goals). Bate benefitted from less attention due to Robbo's presence. Valenti and Grimes and Cheney did some nice things. Wheels was good. PJ showed his big heart. We are good and getting better. I think this team will be great one day, as they develop experience and bodies and practice foot skills and decision-making. We just need a few more champions in key positions.

Aker is a good bloke who calls things as he sees them. I would have been happy if he had come to melbourne, although i understand why at the time he chose the Westies.

He may live to regret it though. The Dogs won't win a flag with there present Team.

The Demons in 2 years just might.

Yes, we did over handball, but I agree with godees' assessment. It was actually our kicking that cost us the most.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
