bruce another turn over...

How many bad bounces have there been today? terrible from the umps today!!

I'm starting to jump on to the "Bruce is a liability" bandwagon... his kicking is [censored] TERRIBLE!!

When is Petterd going to stop getting a free ride. Has about the same output as Isaac Weetra. Does nothing week after week, compare him to Maric or Bennel, he just is not natural at finding the footy.

You're having a corker. First it's Bruce, then it's Petterd who gets us back in the game with two strong goals.

game is over....

It is?

Please don't try and tell me we already have a winning culture!! Perhaps you should check out the results section on the AFL website for the games we have played this year just in case.

Can YOU and all your followers put your emotions and instant gratification aside and have a F$%*g look at the BIG PICTURE for a change...and even to Dean Bailey (in last weeks press conference) where he said "we are still building the list". Personally I would prefer to build 'the list' with the BEST possible players not the 'also rans'.

Before you reply with some emotionally driven dribble ask yourself this question.

Would you prefer to finish the season with a win at Subiaco oval or the first TWO picks in the National Draft? ......I know which one will do more for the future of the club... do you?

Go Dees - Building for the Future.

Where did I say we already have a winning culture?? I said we have started it this year - if you know anything about footy you would agree with me that we have a better culture this year than last year.

I know our results this year - I go every week (i dont need to check the bloody afl website!)

I totally agree we are still building our list - that isnt front page news - we all know that. We will be building our list for the next 3 years at least (if not longer). Yes, we need to build our list with the best possible players - but, as the footy club say - we also need to build a winning culture asap!

On your question - why cant we have both? If we win at subi, we have 2 wins for the year - where would our other 3 wins come from? Do you know or do we win we can & see how we go for the year? I know what i would rather.

Best possible result.

Fought hard, and those priority picks are still looking good. It'll all be worth it at the end of the year.

Well done boys, a massively hard-fought game.

Bate had a stinker, and Robbo did very little, but everyone else contributed really well and given we were two players down for more than half a match, we did extremely well to nearly steal the win.

Posted

f@#% it!!! Lost by 8pts in a very short last quater. We done boys - battled your guts out, but - a loss is a loss.

Posted

Well we lost, so we still do not have a winning culture and we will have a much better chance to get a winning culture by having better players.

Because waiting at the back of the pack and the ball falling into your arms is a strong goal. Hunter's mistake blocking Glass' spoil.

Well done to Petterd but too little too late.

I don't accept the mediocrity that you do DD.

I feel exactly the same way. And I hate myself for it.

I was jumping around like a maniac in the living room, yelling at the TV, because while the game was on, all I wanted us to do was win.

But as soon as the siren went, I was happy with the result.

In better years, with better teams, we were regularly smashed over there. To walk away with a narrow margin, having just 20 fit players for over half a game, is a great result... and we're one game closer to adding two of the best kids in the country to our developing list.

Oh and Bate needs to go far far away. He is having a terrible season and is lucky that his only replacement at this stage is Newton, who is even worse. Thank god Green is not far away.

How the hell did that quarter not go for longer. That is [censored]

Could not have said it better myself.

So that was winnable... even at Subi with half a bench. I feel robbed in that I thought there was at LEAST 3 more minutes there. And I thought we had them too... If that was at the G we'd have won by 5 goals.

We're not the worst side in the comp, but we'll get the picks the worst side should get...

Some really good stories there. Grimes was back and VERY good if a little iffy on disposal, Morton may have played his best game statistically (28 k, 6 hp and 16 marks!!), Moloney, Bruce keep on keeping on, Davey is our best player in the absence of Green. Maric and Petterd were quiet but kicked 2. Bennell still impressing... a lot of talk on SEN about him, PJ was good too, Jones superb, Miller did his bit...

My issues - Sylvia, who didn't play his worst ever game, but also didn't do enough. McLean is a worry and I think Bate is the big one who needs a spell this week. Probably won't get it, as we have two guys out assuming Rivers and Frawley are as injured as they seem to have been. Maybe Macnamara to come in? Our defenders are the thing we're most pumped about... now we have Garland, Rivers AND Frawley out. Martin may be the only starting 22 defender in the side next week. Which, good as he's been, is a bit scary.

Overall though, I'm just worried that the kids could have used a win there to remind them why they play. Will another heart-breaking loss be more harmful that the Butcher/Scully thing is helpful? Time will tell...

The perfect result!!

A hard fought close loss with a lot of 'what ifs' and 'maybe's' that show we COULD have won.

We are on the right road but we don't want to derail our rise like the way Essendon are doing by winning too early and compromising good draft selections while they are still available.

I have waited for more than 40 years, and I can get through another season with a poor win/loss record knowing we will WIN at the draft table.

Next year is the year we have to start putting 'a big fright' into the competition.

Just on your reply I still don't get where you say "we have started this year", regarding a winning culture. Don't you need to win to start a winning culture? I do know a bit about our game and the culture of winning teams and I do agree our culture has changed BUT it is NOT a winning culture....yet. Perhaps it can best be described as NOT a losing one or a fighting one?

Go Dees - Building for the Future.

Was hoping for a win, as I do every week, but it was a good result.

One good thing about Gold Coast and West Sydney is that it will settle the 'tanking' issue for a few years, and we can focus on winning as many games as we can. It seems we've timed the rebuild perfectly... Poor Richmond.

Bate having his best game in 2 years (except 2nd half against Freo last year)

Sorry guys that was me (gOLLy) posting under my brothers name. I take it all back...... Bate seconds half was was same old usual. So we have 3 qtrs in 2 years of footy.

It's one thing to console ourselves after a hard fought defeat with the fact that it will ultimately end with two prized draft picks at seasons end. But it's another thing to actually hope for a loss.

While the game is played, I want to win regardless. Once the game is over and I've witnessed a pleasing performance from a young improving team, then I can live with the loss knowing it may be in the best long term interests on the club, as hard as even that can be to stomach.

As tempting as Scully and Butcher sound, I find it hard believe people actually WANT us to lose.

How do you do it? Must make for a long and conflicted season.

The boys were great today. Turnovers are all that is costing us victory at the moment, along with a forward line that is still out of sorts although on the right track. The first 15 minutes of the 3rd quarter we were all over them but could not convert it on the scoreboard. Throw Watts and Wona up there next year and the tide will turn. We have a very exciting future ahead. I agree with Jaded , BRFE etc that this was a good result for our future, despite my wanting to win all day long.

This season winning is irrelevant, however I admit when the game is on I barrack as much as anyone. What is important is the development of our kids.

A few points of interest (some may have been mentioned already).

- Melbourne kicked more goals that West Coast which isn't a bad thing (despite the team still losing) but showed that the forward line still weren't seeing enough of the ball.

- Robertson is still a very good footballer

- Why late in the last quarter when Cox threw the ball back to Dunn when a free kick was paid was there not a 50 metre penalty as Cox deliberately threw it high in the air and it fell short of the Dunn? The penalty would have put the ball on Melbourne's HFF and Melbourne would have had a chance to score with the game in the balance.

- Bate really is rubbish below his knees.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
