Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The volume of the team's anthems at the MCG

Recommended Posts

At the Geelong game, the anthems were barely audible at the G! Seriously, they were set so low it was outrageous. I've noticed at the games this year that the volume has been set pretty low, what muppet has been complaining in order to cause that?

Anyone else notice this? They set it a little higher when Melbourne ran out, but still so low. And no, I'm not an old fuddy duddy or require hearing aids!

I've noticed this for the last few weeks at the G - it's hopeless on level 2!

Saving the speakers for the advertisements...

The atmosphere at the footy these days with all the ads and the rock/pop music blaring, especially before the game, is just crap. I used to enjoy going to the game early to read the record/paper and chat to my mates about the upcoming game...

(and I'm only in my 20's)

Yeah, the volume is certainly a problem. It's hard to get excited about our boys running through the banner when "It's a Grand Old Flag" is barely audible.

I agree, what especially annoys me is that the music doesn't stop until just before the opening bounce of each quarter. I think against Richmond, it kept playing in the first few seconds of the game.

And who amongst us needs some announcer to come on at quarter and half time to tell us the score?

I mean really, are we football fans or what?

The music is too loud and the ads too intrusive. As for the theme song, well that should be blared, but as an MCC member I was recently surveyed by the cricket ground administration and lodged a complaint about the public address volume.

Maybe it's my fault, but I did not ask them to turn down the volume on our song - just the rest of the audio garbage.

....

Yes. Tony Schibecci tells us the score. Mind you at three quarter time he got the margin wrong after telling us the scores. C'mon Schibec-star, lift your game.

I also noticed this on the weekend too. I couldn't hear (NOT that i reallycare) the SEN boys who do their pre-match/half time comments etc... However, whenever the advertisments come on, it's noticeable straight away... I wish the MCG would just get it right. Agreed that it takes away from the 'footy' experience.

DAMN RIGHT...this needs to be fixed. I suggest fans either email AFL or MCC (suit yourself which one), this requires a wall of protest so its fixed pronto

Discussed this with the Mrs. the last few games. On the ground level in the open in the AFL you can't hear the songs at all. Makes the team entry onto the ground rather flat.

YES !!! I top have noticed this. TURN IT UP !! we don't hear it at the end of games much at the moment, We should at least be able to hear it before games. I am going to complain to the MCG. Can someone also put a microphone in front of the trumpeter before the MFC home games, They did last year. There is nothing worse than seeing him play the song before the game and not being able to hear it !!! It stirs the emotions hearing it's a grand on flag on the trumpet.

Stynesy should stand with the Trumpeter & call all supporters to be upstanding. We should do some different things Pre Game.

Great Idea, but wait until we start winning a few!

<EDIT> Has anybody else noticed that ever since the trumpeter has turned up we have been going badly? Maybe he is to blame after all

Yes, definitely too soft.

In regards to the trumpeter, am I the only one who thinks the effect is lost when he starts playing at the same time as the (albeit soft) song comes on over the speakers as the team runs out? I would much prefer him to do it when there's no other noise, so that everyone can hear him.

At the carlton richmond game earlier this year I could not hear myself think it was that loud with music and infomercials etc. I am in my 30 and love loud music but this was just a horrible experience.....and then I had to watch Richmond!!!!!!

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
