for this year Bate CHF , Green to FF , I have defended B.Miller for years on Demonland, lacks foward thinking , cant kick from 35 out, fails to offer even a physical presence. replacement or not he wont be there in 2-3 years , no mucking around , time to go. no dead wood, we carry no-one

Go where, he's doing a job for us to his best ability, until we recruit someone who can start to play his role better.

Well that only took one round.

A new Demonland record?

agreed.

Classic kneejerk reaction. pathetic really.

At his best Miller is a strong marking, hard working CHF who provides a good target and provides good leadership.

Today just wasn't his day

Fully agree (and keep in mind if Miller was "to go" - Newton may come back!)

Moronic idea. He's no Wayne Carey but he's a good ordinary footballer. Comfortably our best key position forward at this point in time.

sorry guys, im not trying to break any record. as i have said ,i have defended him over the past couple of seasons when many tore shreds off him, he is not a first year player his debut was in 02 and has 110 games behind him, i sick of ` it was round 1 ` what was the past four weeks and the past six years . stand up my friend. yes i have high expectations of the few senior players we have left

you said it ` ordinary` Green to FF, the man an play and bleeds for the club

As a key forward Miller isn't very good, but we've known this for several years. But the fact remains until Watts matures (and however we pick up this year) he is our only option. We literally don't have anyone else capable of playing as a key forward on our list.

As soon as we all accept this we can sit down, drink some green tea and relax.

Oh, if he bleeds for the Club then that's different.

I am sure Miller doesn't!

Yeah ordinary is the word, im starting to feel sorry for the guy,why play him up forward, he kicked 26 last year,he wont do any better this year, its pathetic to watch.

I reckon Green should play close to goal as well. However, you suggested we should get rid of Miller. That would be ridiculous at this point in time as he's the only key position forward we have, limited as he is.

I agree it wasnt one of Millers best but dont throw the baby out with the bath water just yet. Our foward line in bascally non existant. Miller at his best had Robbo and Neitz firing and he was a leading CHF. He was then getting the 3rd best defender, now he is getting the best. When we have a few more effective targets, Miller will have more influance.

The good thing about having a 0.5 goal a game average is that when you go goal-less you have hardly done any harm, especially after more than 100 games.

Can we all collectively pray for a strong, hard leading, intelligent forward?

We're in trouble in the forward line.

Miller > Bate

In the 4th qtr ball bombed long into f50... miller under it.... Bate backs back and goes for it too.. spoil each other North player stays down.. rebound easily out.

Very similar players, niether is going to improve from where they are. Not many options at the minute.

are you bloody serious? knee jerk reaction? i have said he is hopeless since day 1. you highlighted his best..the problem is, he plays at his best once in a blue moon. most games he wont kick more than 1 goal or get over 10 touches. would prefer to play 1 player down

Miller can contest and bring ball to ground, and take good strong marks.

Who else in our forward line can do that right now?

Name one player you'd have replacing Miller, before saying "he can go".

If he had two other strong forwards around him, he'd be an excellent 3rd tall. He doesn't, but at least I know that he'll make a contest every time, giving the occasional crumber (when they make it back in time  ) a chance.

It's fine to say players can go. However, you need to replace them with someone (preferably better).

Does Newton kick more goals or create more opportunities than Miller? Zomer? Who else is there?

Miller's worthy of a best-22 spot.

Another jerk reaction of a different type.

You must have gone through some torrid therapy last year to psychologically dissolve all memory of the Freo game last year.

ATM. Hopefully there must be better options in the future.

The evidence that he can take "good strong marks" is thin on the ground at the moment. That said, he did contest well yesterday while permanently outnumbered, which unfortunately is not something that could be said about Bate.

He's no chance of being dropped on yesterday's form, although he simply has to make the most of his opportunities when he is having a shot for goal.

Fair assessment.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
