Can the footy gods please break the Russian's football foot. We need Spencer in the side immediately he was awesome yesterday along with Grimes. Wouldn't mind seeing the pathetic Sylvia's OP come back so we can bring in a kid that will actually have a go in Valenti.

I dont know if that is necessary. Spencer I think has just slotted himself a semi permanent spot in the list. The Age really rated him as well.

Valenti should have never been dropped back to the rookie list.

but spencer cant play because he is a rookie right? so we will need a long-term injury or something like that for him to even have a chance of playing?

There's a new rule this year that we are allowed to promote a rookie halfway through the season regardless of LTI's. But knowing our luck we will have one in no time

Wishing injuries on our players? Worst post ever. After the last couple of years we have had, I cannot belive you would even joke about this.

agree with you 100% - wishing injuries on anyone is bad enough but on our players is even worse. i don't care whether it's a joke or not, it shouldn't even be spoken about

Apparently Meeson has a chronic heart condition, if they can't rectify the problem he may need a long lye down.

Nice to see that Big Spenny has got game.

I would love for some deadwood to be cleared so these guys could have a run. If meese really has a condition, there is no way known he will be given a jumper considering the insurance complications involved in playing him. Promoting Spenny in his place could be a good thing for the future.

As for Valenti, I am sure he ans Spencer will get a run at some stage, I can't recall a season where we have made it though without a long term injury to one of our top players.

Sylvia is hot and cold. He needs to stay fit and build some form. He still has some room to grow, and should be given every chance to even though he has the odd clunker. He is a required player at this stage.

Robbo???

Spencer played a good game. Gave the Hawks a worry or two.

As for Robbo he was at the game giving his support to the guys and signing merchandise for the fans.

When he drifted out to the wing and linked up to kick under preasure to a leading Bate he reminded me a lot of Jimmy the Prez;.mainly the kicking style.

There's a bit of Strawbs O'Dwyer about Spencer. He's certainly the most aggressive ruckman we've had since O'Dwyer.

I think Rhino was suggesting that Robbo might be an immediate candidate for the LTI list. Not a bad thought if he meets the criteria.

Robbo???

What are the rules in regards to putting a player on the LTI list?

Obviously Robbo is the immediate choice. If so, how long does he need to be on the list before we are allowed to bring him back??

Sub question; Who is more valuable? A youthful ruck man who has played one game well, or an aging and injured forward?

I only heard the game on the radio but Spencer sounds like a find. Especially the "grunt". Tough teams win flags and the midfield might put on a couple of inches having a big tough guy near them once he gets promoted.

The one thing I liked more then anything about spencer was taps to advantage. This was the thing I was most critical about Jeff whites games, but spencer was fantastic finding our midfielders chests at the contest. The fact that he is hard at the contest is a bonus.

Lets hope his next couple of games are just as good and hopefully that gives the club a real hard decision to make re Robbo's progress and LTI.

I wonder if there is another option..... if we can demote a veteran to allow a rookie prior to rd 1?

I don't get it. At training loads of people were saying he worked really hard but his disposal was crap. Now heaps of people are raving about him? Crossing my fingers he can build on some new found confidence.

He sounds like a parting gift from Craig Cameron. thankyou sir!

I don't think we will have to wait long for a LTI, i'm not sure how many we average a year but it feels like 5.

Newton has a Long Term Inability, does that count?

have a look at his kicking action, its a little different to the norm. I think thats what people were commenting on. But his attack on the football both at stoppages and general play was refreshing.

My neighbour who is not a dees fan likened him immediately to strawbs or more to the point "that red headed mongrel strawbs". Put a smile on my face.

Hey guys the good thing is with Spencer our next game is against Sydney and their ruckmen are only just starting out too which will only help his and our development IMO.

I think it was a joke.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
