Zac Dawson

Sorry to throw in another name from the paper, but there was an article on this bloke in the sunday paper and he has put on 13k's and looks a strapping lad.

He is a full back with experience and is only 22 and 195-6 cms. Would rather him than Carroll on the list.

Very disappointed at being delisted he is desperate for another chance and was apparently in good form all year for Box Hill but couldn't crack the Hawks team.

If he was picked up by us and filled full back we could release Garland and/or Martin to other areas which would be of help.

Worth considering, as I am sure our footy department will do.

only worth looking at if he has genuinely put on some weight. i think he looked like he could play footy, but was thrown to the wolves by hawthorn before he was ready. could he just be another ferguson? if there any chance iyo that he could be a quality defender or will he just be a bit player? if he will be touch and go we are better off going the draft.

as long as garland stays a defender

i dont know what all the hype of him going forward is

hes not big enough to be a big bustling forward or anything and hes proved himself to be an extremely good defender with huuuge potential/upside

-we don't want another brad miller

dont move garland, please

If he has genuinely put on weight then i see no reason not to draft him with a late pick. People tend to judge too quickly on this bloke. It was not his fault that Al Clarkson threw him onto big big players when he was a small lad.

Every backman has bad days and it says a lot about his character that he went to the gym, put on the weight and subsequently started playing some good football for Box Hill.

Read my first sentence.

sorry, i meant to say strength.

13kgs is a lot of weight, but it would only be helpful if it comes with a big change in strength and ability to position and out muscle. that was his biggest problem in afl; he was brushed aside to easily.

out of interest, do you know what he weighs all up now? i mean is 13kgs makes him 95kgs, i have read he was around the 79 mark. if he was only 74-75kgs, the 13 would leave him at 88 and still probably a bit too small.

There is a sportsmaster at PEGS who was asked who he thought the best kid to come out of PEGS was.

His answer was Scotty West.

And who was the kid you were most surprised ever made it into an AFL team?

"Easy, Zac Dawson, the kid wasn't in our top 10 at school, let alone where he was at Calder Cannons."

from another forum.

btw the way Redleg he's closer to the 195/196cm mark

Fair enough. I can't comment on his strength because obviously I don't know his level. I would assume though that putting on 13k's would have to involve an increase in strength to a degree.

All i remember of Dawson in his short stint with Hawthorns playing list was Anthony Rocka kicking a monster bag against him (9 goals or something), and he was the laughing stock of the league for a few weeks.

Apprehensive to say the least about the kid

I would have thought that if there was one thing we don't need it was a key defender who's just been rejected by his club, but I could be wrong.

Plus the fact we have Rivers, Garland, Frawley, Martin, Cheney and McNamara on the list and are trying to get rid of another player who is ordinary and a culture issue.

I dont care how many cms, kgs or benchpressing power he has, why do we want to chase a defender who was rejected by a Club that would not buck at getting a good defender?

I don't think the fact that a player has been rejected by a club makes him an automatic dud. We all can list many examples of success at a second or third club. Guerra at his third played in a premiership, Pike at his third played in three more just for examples.

Only Martin in the list you have above has Dawson's size and he may end up in the ruck given our shortage of ruckmen.

I am not saying we "should" draft Dawson, but rather that we should look at him closely to decide if we should and as I said I am sure the footy department will do just that.

In the end he may be a dud or he may be another Brett Lovett, who knows, but if we got him and he held down full back other players could be used elsewhere, that is all I am saying.

PS. As we are now close to delisting Carroll, Dawson could be taken as our new last pick in the draft and he will probably be better than anyone we get that far down the order and he is ready to go.

Its good reason to be suspicious of them and particularly when they have not impressed when they have played MFC.

Guerra filled a stop gap role that was a weakness at the Hawks and was not a bad player at his old club.

Pike is a poor example yo give because his playing ability was evident and valued at every Club he played at. However he e was a social ratbag of the highest order and his problems burned his bridges at a number of Clubs.

I agree the football department should and will sift through the opportunities. But I wonder if they will be more excited by Dawson that I am?

would have a look at him for sure. form has been great at box hill. still young. would be worth a late pick or pre season pick. i would take him before i would take anyone on here having a crack at him... hawthorn delisting him could be for a number of reasons. players often better themselves with a second chance...worth a look....

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
