If Essendon want him back they have to hope he lasts that long though.

If he doesn't nominate and get taken in the ND I'd say there's no way he'll last til the Bombers get a pick.

Probably won't last past our PSD pick.

If we decided that we wanted him, we could negotiate terms with his management and if there was agreement, he could nominate for the PSD. We would then get him with pick # 1. There's a lot of "ifs" there, mind you!

I think he's the best PSD prospect available and we should be negotiating with his management now to sign him . It's happened a few times before with the PSD first pick , and guarantees the club get their player and the player is assured of a new AFL contract .

Get him now I reckon !

The way the club is going at the moment, I have my doubts that Hislop and the MFC would be able to come to an arrangement - given that every man and his dog has thumbed his nose at the MFC.

If the club truly wants him, then we may have to fork out pick 35 for him in the National Draft.

I'm now almost 100% certain we won't be picking up players from other clubs in either draft.

Back to the topic of Tom Hislop.

With a few clubs vying for his services, would you think a 2-3 years deal (we are basing this on the length of deal, not the $ amount) would be enough to sway him to come to the MFC?

If he nominates for the ND, I suppose he has no choice if his name comes up when we are drafting. If he nominates for the PSD, I suppose he can put a price tag on his head, which could take us out of the running. Would the 2-3 year deal turn his head? I don't think he would be commanding too much dosh on the open market, perhaps the length of stay is what he is after as he allegedly turned down a 1 year deal.

I know Hislop has been deemed a "bad egg". but he is the only player I can actually see being of service out of the 2008 delistees.

Perhaps a "Powerpoint presentation" will secure him WJ?;)

Apparently (read: ridiculously speculative) he was the player the Herald Sun was referring to when his captain pulled him up at a team meeting and said "if you ever take drugs at my club again I'll f***ing kill you"

Fits far too cleanly... so naturally it can't be true.

But its enough for me to blindly believe.

Take Begley in the PSD.

Captains who I believe would of allegedly said that to the player in question at a team meeting.

Matthew Lloyd - YES

James McDonald/Cameron Bruce - NO

Sam Mitchell - MAYBE

Chris Judd - NO

Nick Riewoldt - NO

Tom Harley - NO

Adam Simpson - NO

Brad Johnson - NO

Simon Goodwin - NO

Warren Tredrea - NO

Darren Glass - NO

Matthew Pavlich - NO

Brett Kirk - NO

Jonathon Brown - NO

Kane Johnson - NO

Scott Burns - YES

Have I narrowed it down to the right club(s)???

Why do you bother posting such rubbish when it has no basis of fact what so ever?

And HT, I would expect any AFL captain worth his role(other than the Cuz) to take rather strident and aggressive action to warn/threaten any player who was known to be taking drugs.

...

 Interesting to go through the list like that though.

In my opinion -

Matthew Lloyd - YES

James McDonald/Cameron Bruce - NO

Sam Mitchell - YES

Chris Judd - NO

Nick Riewoldt - YES

Tom Harley - NO

Adam Simpson - NO

Brad Johnson - NO

Simon Goodwin - Doubtful

Warren Tredrea - YES

Darren Glass - Doubtful

Matthew Pavlich - NO

Brett Kirk - NO

Johnathon Brown - YES

Kane Johnson - NO

Scott Burns - YES

But Lloyd & Hislop appear the best fit.

*** PURE SPECULATION & SHOULD BE DISREGARDED AS SUCH ***

So would I RR, just speculating on how I perceive the captains and who I think would of allegedly said that based on how long they've been at the club and how they love the club, if the speculation regarding what was said is in fact true... .

What was said is definitely true.

No one seems to have much idea of who actually said it though.

Hislop is the only non-captain's name I've heard thrown up throughout (which of cause doesn't mean it's true).

So your saying the ridiculous speculation is true now. Gotcha.

No I'm saying the whole "a captain of an AFL club took a player by yadayada" part was was true

How would you honestly be sure if you dont know the protagonists were?

Why you saw the need to unfairly speculate that the statement refers to Hislop or any other player for that matter involving drugs is baffling.

Your response to my initial query suggests you dont get it.

Rhino, the report of "a captain tooka player aside" was spoken about on SEN by Ricky Nixon about a month ago. Whether it is true is a whole different issue. But MY source for hearing the same idea was that interview.

Thanks Tim. I have no doubt the statement has been widely alleged to have occurred and its good copy for the media but it could well be folklore bandied about or it may well have been true.

Its the sort of comment I could well attribute to a Coach as well. Naturally some clubs come to mind before others.

I heard/read that it was Michael Voss.

good point. I don't think they actually said it was a current captain.

And Vossy would put the fear of god into you, wouldn't he?

haha i love it. Wish we had a fearsome captain like that... Brock?? get onto that one.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
