Don't be, we're going to trade him for some young talent who can play for the MFC in a premiership.

But who are these young players meant to look up to and follow by example if our core senoir players are traded?

We'll still have Bruce, McDonald, McLean, Miller , Wheatley to look up to.

As we all know Bruce and McDonald are getting on, and I would question that Wheatley would be someone that the kids would really hold in high regards.

I agree Rusty - as arguably our best player this year we need Green as the rolemodel for our young guys! Fingers crossed we get it done

Green and a pick exchange for O'keefe?

or perhaps a straight swap?

Getting O'Keefe here would be bad for us and him.

We want a player peaking for our next premiership contention period, and O'Keefe should want to go to a Club that has a premiership window approaching.

After his year this year and leadership qualities, I wouldn't want anything less than a top 15 pick. What top team would he get a game at? I don't think he'd fit at the Hawks or Doggies, and I think he'd struggle to get a game at Geelong. Maggies? Sydney?

Either way, I'm confident he'll eventually resign.

Bruce is at the same stage as Green. McDonald is getting on. The kids can hold the new players and the youth in high regard, the likes of Sylvia, Davey, Miller, Jones.

I thought he did re-sign. Thought I read that on the Drafting/Trading board. Hmm.

I still don't think it's official yet or else we would have heard it by now.

Green not signing is a bit of a concern, given he would be the only one with Junior i'd have the youngsters look up to. Bruce to me just doesn't show enough game-day leadership. Quite few do since Neita's retirement. Miller is certainly one of them, but he is in the younger bracket. However, given our past 2 years, anyone is expendable at the right price. Sure if Green goes, we'd have lost a good player, but the team won't get much worse than where we are at right now.

I'm all for trading our more senior players (Green, Bruce, etc) and maybe some younger players (ie. Bell) in order to get some more decent picks.

This appeared on demonology 26/9.. but still nothing official on MFC website !!!!... so maybe it's only a rumor or maybe it will be announced at the Best and fairest night this week ..........................

"The long stalemate between Melbourne and senior player Brad Green appears to be over, with the Demons yesterday agreeing to Green's demand for a three-year contract extension.

Green's manager Michael Quinlan yesterday said Melbourne had finally extended the term of Green's contract from its initial offer of a two-year deal.

"Money has never really been an issue," Quinlan said. "But it's taken a while to get to this stage."

Green, 27, should go close to winning the Demons' best-and-fairest award this year for the first time after finishing fourth to James McDonald last year and fifth to the same player in 2006.

He was reinstated to Melbourne's leadership group mid-year and played 20 games this season to take his career total to 186 matches. "

It was mentioned in a weekend paper that he was close to re signing

They could just be waiting for him to return to Melbourne, to sign. Could all be completed, just not stamped/signed.

This reminds me of last year with Trav....... I love Greeny probably my favourite player but this could be like Yze with Geelong a few years ago, they asked for him we said no and from then onward we haven't seen the Yze of old.

I can see us getting rid of him like Trav.

I can also see us re-signing him and not playing any more good footy.

Let’s hope im wrong....

Green & Manager waiting for the Best & Fairest first perhaps before signing?

Brock Mclean

The likes of Green, Bruce and Wheatley have never shown any real leadership qualities in all their time at the club so what makes you think any of our young players look up to them. The fact is had they been traded 2-3 years ago as many suggested this club would be further advanced towards success than it is now. Instead we're left with the shattered remnants of past failures.

The fact that Green had arguably his best year yet , despite the team having one of its worst ever , suggests his re-signing is imperative .

Why anyone would contemplate trading him is beyond comprehension .

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
