Im really split on this one...He is going to win our B&F, probably our next captain but at the same time is at the peak of his trade value. Im glad im not the one making the final call on him staying or going

God guys I know it is the hot thing to do right now but there is no need for us to not want our best player and possible captain just because he is 27...

The kids won't be developed well if we get pumped weekly...

oh exactly. we need those older players like brucey and green and mcdonald there to teach the younger kids

which is why i get annoyed when they rules out drafting/trading for a cousins/kerr player

we've got salary room- hopefully greeny has taken a bit of a cut, and we trade someone like bell who'd be on 300,000

Quoted where? do we have a source?

Source please guys? I can't find it reported anywhere...

Hope not though. Might be a solid player, but he's not great and an ordinary leader in my book.

We haven't had a great player since Robbie Flower, and we need to retain our "solid" players, regardless of age.

Whilst people like you keep pushing the "youth at all costs" line, the rest of us will have to keep digging into our pockets for an annual debt demolition appeal.

BTW Shaft, Brad Green is someone who has good foot skills. Had it from day 1 as well............

You're putting words in my mouth.

I don't agree with 'youth at all costs', but in green's case i'd rather trade him.

Or keep him at a cheap rate, but he's not captain material.

I don't understand why people seem to think he is.

You've got me on the footskills though. But.. whilst they're still good, i reckon they've deteriorated slightly over time.

Probably has something to do with pressure and the targets he's kicking too though.

...And i donated to the appeal too, princess

I'm just saying, once again, IN MY OPINION Brad Green is not quite captain material.

Maybe i have higher standards or different criteria for what makes a good captain, but I'm entitled to my opinion, just as you are.

He is a solid player with good kicking skills. But i also think they've taken a slight dive. Slight. Just an observation.

Bruce is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.

green's kicking skills have taken a dive agreed. he wouldve been the one player in our team you'd give the ball to after the siren to kick a goal..however, his accuracy in front of goal last yr was little to be desired

You've gotta love people's ridiculously over-inflated views of what players get paid. If Bell was on even a third of that I'd be surprised.

And I highly doubt Green has taken a pay cut. Actually, I think it'd be utter lunacy if he did.

Bell would be on about 200,000 before match payments. No chance he would only be on 100,000, considering first round draft picks (Morton and Grimes) were on 60,000 before match payments.

I worked it out that Morton would have made just over 100,000 this year after match payments, quite handy for the 18 year old.

First round draft picks only get $50k (well $50,200 to be exact) but you're right about Morton earning over $100k.

Cale would've got base payments - $50,200. Match payments for 19 games - $45,600. Bonuses at 1 games, 6 games & 11 games - $6,900. That's a total of $102,700 from Melbourne. Cale also would've picked up $2,500 from the AFL for being a top 5 draft pick. Because he played 16+ matches his base next year will be $70,400 with match payments of $3,800, so if he plays every game next year he'll earn over $150k. Not bad for a kid who won't even be 20.

On the flip, Grimes would've got base payments - $50,200. Match payments for 1 game - $2,400. Bonus at 1 game - $2,300 and a total of $54,900. Next year, because he only played one game, His base will be $57,300 + $2,900 per match. Still not a bad wicket, but it really pays to get as many games under your belt as you can.

No idea what Bell would be on, if this is his 3rd contract (2 years, 2 years, 2 year deal finishing 2009) then it might be about $200,000. Or he could be on say $150k plus $5,000 match payments which allows him to earn up to another $100k a year depending on games played.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
