BACKS

Matthew Whelan - important veteran defender who will be out to prove a point in 2009

Stefan Martin - big kid showed a lot of promise late this season

Matthew Warnock - turned into a very handy defender under Bailey

HALF BACKS

Simon Buckley - electrifying run was a highlight. Averaged over 20 touches. Smokey for the Bluey next year

Jared Rivers - let us pray that he is fit. Absolute star.

Brad Green - clubs best player and hopefully skipper next season

CENTRELINE

Cale Morton - even just a few extra kilos will see him dominate games regularly

Brent Prismall - as good as a Demon. Wont debut wil mid year, but wll be worth the wait

Aaron Davey - his pace will be important for the Demons through the middle

HALF FORWARDS

Colin Sylvia - is about to explode after a fine 2008 season

Brad Miller - Seems to have found his feet as permament forward

Matthew Bate - huge season coming up after interrupted start to 08'

FORWARDS

Nicholas Naitanui - freak of nature will wreak havoc with his size, leap, speed and second efforts

Colin Garland - ready to move forward with Rivers, Martin and Warnock manning the defense

Austin Woneamirri - will have a field day at the feet of Naitanui, Garland and Miller.

RUCKS

Paul Johnson - just gets better every year. Besides Buddy, best giant at ground level in the AFL.

Brock McLean - will he ever play a full season? If he does, the Demons will benefit greatly.

Nathan Jones - will have less pressure on him next season and should explode

INTERCHANGE

Addam Maric - could already be the best user of the ball at the MFC. A gem.

Brent Moloney - will add some firepower to a midfield in dire need

James McDonald - no spring chicken but still the spiritual leader

Paul Wheatley - veteran presensce will be important

EMERGENCIES

Ricky Petterd - could easily be best 18 if he can overcome constant bad luck

Russell Robertson - 30 and a snapped achilles doesn bode will for permanent forward spot

Chris Johnson - showed a bit this season, but still behind a few others. But a very handy emergency

Not quite there - Lynden Dunn, Clint Bartram, Mark Jamar, Michael Newton, James Frawley

hey big head I thought you were banned...you still make no sense, go back to 'ology!!!

yeah, I know; he said he had lost weight over the summer - less weights, more sprinting. Looks to me like he has whacked it all on again: no acceleration, modest speed.

Never all that big? You're kidding. He's built like a brick sh*thouse.

he's the fastest 3km runner at the club

My my people have a short memory.

As someone noted, this is only a very slight alteration on last years squad.

I love optimisum as much as the next supporter, but we must be realistic.

That team there is NO WHERE near finals. Prismal, IF we get him, will not even be close to good form come mid season.

NN is not a ready made AFL footballer.

But hey, i understand, theres not that much to talk about in the off season.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
