Viney's son is one of the best 14 year old footballers in the State -and he's headed our way under the father-son rule.

Todd might as well lead the family back into the Demon fold right now.In Viney; Out: Williams !!

I bloody hope so, about time we got some luck with the father-son rule.

Isn't Todd Viney's son named Jack Viney?

That'd make it three. Any other promising Jacks coming through the system? We could be the first club in history to have four jacks, and hopefully they will all be... aces...

I can't believe I wrote that.

Heard a comment on Saturday that many of the hard nut Hawk mids were drafted while Brereton was in charge of Football dept - and he insisted on toughness being a criteria.

They certainly play with mongrel. Will be interesting to see if they control it against the cats. Last year they totally lost it against the kangas in the final they lost; 3? reports.

C'mon, we've got half a midfield to match them allready. Bruce, Green, Dunn, Morton, how many more do we need?

In further news -

Todd Viney inducted into the Melbourne Hall of Fame at the B&F dinner.

Come home Todd!

So he should of been inducted, hell, he made the Mfc Team of The Century side.

Was Todd at the B&F to collect his award? Did anyone see him. God i wish we could get him back for 09. I know its dreaming but like Ratten in 2004 Our Midfield needs "Grunt Training"

Hawks midfield boss leaves the nest

Map: Hawthorn 3122

Hawthorn assistant coach Todd Viney has decided to quit the premiership-winning side.

The midfield coach says family reasons and the desire to seek a new challenge are behind his decision.

The former Melbourne captain has been with the Hawks since 2005.

The suspense is killing me. Don't forget that Paul Williams' contract term expires end of this year.

Given that on Demonland at least, many people see Williams as the weakest link in our coaching staff, and see Todd Viney as not only a favourite son but an exceptional coach with the approach to the game we want to see at our club...

Fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, I'd say this is a bit of a blow to the Hawks. To find out in the same week that Viney is leaving but Kennet isn't, that'd be pretty crushing.

Apparently returning to South Australia for family reasons -(re: Viney)

Word is that the other issue, re any possible return to the MFC is that he and Geeper have had a falling out.

I certainly hope not, but that is the word.

Other issues are, what happens to Chopper Lovell and Brett Lovett now?

Sorry WYL.

"Geeper" is the affectionate nickname Jimmy gave to one G Lyon.

How long ago did they have a falling out?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
