Sounds like a pack of halfwits. Did you see the "logo"? Far out. Don't you love how traditional our game is.

How GC got a team and Tassie hasn't is a disgrace.

Didn't Brissie start out there? And were even worse on the Coast than they were in Brisbane

As announced by Hutchy on the Footy Show, the Gold Coast Football Club will not have a nickname and colours will be Red, White, Blue and Yellow.

I hope they don't clash with our AFL designated Red, White and Blue clash jumber.

Their mascot is a cartoon like lifesaver.

They'll be known as the Gerriatric Generics !! New sponsors to be Black and Gold ( Coast ) and Homebrand !!

The Mascot will wear a label announcing he was packed for the GCFC from domestic and imported players

I notice on the tellie that Graeme Downey still seems to think the new club is a littel hard done by and really wants more ability to snare redy mades !! FFS. Downey..Get ya club up and runnig and train a few boys !! Its what we have to do and your getting more than a share on a plate.

They seem to think its their right to be 'very' competitive come the first AFL year.. i.e top eight ( nine..fifteen or wahtever Vlad goes with )

MEMO to GC..we owe you lot nothing...youre the newbies.. you have to earn respect and position.. otherwise it means nothing...still given they are the "nothings' maybe this is where his misconception begins !! <_<

Too right Bub. Their team will have access to the best QLD talent and underage kids next year, plus picks 1,2,3,5,7,9,11,13, plus they will be able to take the best uncontracted player from every team.

That's 8 very early picks, 16 half decent players who already have AFL experience, on top of that, around another 20 young kids they sign up this year and next. And that's before they even start competing in the AFL. No doubt they will get more concessions as time goes on. Cry me a f****ing river.

They are still 2 1/2 years from playing their first game in the AFL and are already starting to whinge. Turn it up. Take their license off 'em and give it to Tassie (along with an apology). They'd appreciate everything that was given to them, unlike this group of spoilt geriatrics.

red white blue and yellow just seems to invite clashes with everyone.

mfc, nmfc, wb, wc, st kilda, freo, swans, could all potentially clash with that colour combination. the more colours the more clashes too, because the jumpers get blurry. why not make them 'orange and blue, then they'd ony clash with WC. or green and black, they'd clash with no one. or yellow and purple. or yellow and red. the list goes on.

why use a combination thaqt already exists?

fwiw im prety happy with the GC FC thing. thats what all the afl clubs were originally, and the nickname slowly caught on for some reason or another. let them be the gold coast, and somewhere along the line they will pick up an appropriate nomiker. at least it will have more meaning than the 'pirates' or the 'marlins', plastic imposed nicknames that i believe would be hard for anyone to support.

They are just starting out 45, they haven't got a team yet, they've just been born and your calling them a bunch of halfwits. Give 'em time. Easy to sit back and criticise. No matter how well their launch went, there would be criticism no matter what.

I believe they should get a few picks in the 2009 draft and a few taken away from them in the 2010 draft. In order to: -

1/ Develop over another year, so they have 2 years of development so they are closer to being ready in 2011

2/ To ease the amount of draft picks taken away from all other 16 clubs in 2010 draft. (ie Dilute)

ie. 2009 - Picks 2,5,11,15

2010 - Picks 1,2,3,5,9,13,...,..etc

red white blue and yellow just seems to invite clashes with everyone.

We have not seen the final jumper yet deanox. Let's wait until that has happened before we start knocking them. Think of the current Brisbane clash jumper.

So am I, I agree totally. They will get a nickname or something appropriate in due course.

Amazing choice of colours really. You would think they would want to differentiate themselves from Brisbane with the colours of Blue Yellow and Maroon, and yet they choose Blue Yellow and Red in their colour scheme. Bizarre

As Jacka points out - no nickname for a late merge and the colours of the Demons, Roos and Dogs are all covered.

Personally I would have gone for orange but maybe West Sydney will head there.

This is the mascot. You'd think he would wear colours similar to that of the jumper, so I'm thinking more yellow than anything, which avoids some of the clashes (e.g. with Sydney, us, Adelaide, Freo etc).

Hmmm sure has the build for football?? won't be grabbing him around the hips...lol Calves look a little on the weedy side.

"AFL national development manager David Matthews said based on early research - with the players available in the 2010 national draft having taken part in this year's national under 16 championships - the 2010 national draft was shaping up as 'a normal draft' rather than a super draft like 2001 or a slightly weaker draft such as 2002."

At least we have two strong draft classes ahead of us before GC raid the draft, and I am somewhat comforted by the above notion that it's not shaping as a 'super draft'.

wonder if their theme song will be done to the tune of the baywatch theme?>

Nice one. Could be catchy. It could be played each time they kick a goal. Like the Brisbane Bears and Sydney Swans of old!

David Matthews going into bat for the GC17 and AFL. Next they'll have all 15 first picks rather than 9 out of 15.

Hmm...that come hither smirk...the sultry "Hello Sailor" look !!!

What in gods name were they thinking ???? An absolute joke..

Who's the naming sponsor going to be?? probably Avon or Maybelline by the look of that 'lovley" boy !! ffs

still with GC ..might end up "Golden Circle "

A predominantly Yellow jumper ought be ok...for them !!! the ..."What-Eva's" !!!

instead of goal posts you have to kick in between the red and yellow flags

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
