Brad Green WILL be traded for a 2nd or 3rd Round Pick...

... to the Doggies.

There would need to be a sweetner put in with that for that trade to happen. I don't appose trading Green but he is worth more than a late 2nd round or early 3rd round pick, and i think he would slot in very nicely at the doggies

What i find baffling about all this is does Brad want to play for melbourne of not ?

If that is his wish then Melbourne FC are offering a 2 year contract

just sign the contract

want an extension ?

play well for 2 years and lets see

pretty simple really

Are you serious, not simple at all it's his life we are talking about here.

People seem to think this is a local club, it's not, it's the AFL and Green is a higher line AFL player, he will win our b & f and deserves 3 years right now.

I don't know why he would even want to stay though to be honest, club doesn't respect what he did this year enough for a 3 year deal, but are willing to pay a whopping 400k for an unproven ruckman. Bit of a joke really.

Fair enough we are a team with kids kids and more kids. But you can't get rid of everyone, won't do anygood for this young team to get belted every week. Need to keep some of our good players, while Morton, Maric, Wona etc are good, they are still young and will be very inconsistent, they need good senior players to help them from being demolished everyweek and have the confidence drop as low as Bells has.

He is extremely entitled to go for 3 years, he does want to stay but im sure he doesn't want to be just shipped out of the club he loves in 2 years time. Bottom line is, even if he is playing good footy in 2 years time he may be let go because of age, by then he will be 29 pushing 30, and no club will pick him up, if he doesn't get 3 years his career could be ended prematuraly, Green is a smart man, he has the next 50 years of his life to worry about as well.

AFL is a business, don't be ungrateful, if you were offered to leaveyour current job for an extra year of security and 100k more a year would you do it? Of course you would, Green is showing his passion by not asking to be traded. If he honestly wanted to go make more money and get more years which he could, he would have mentioned it by now, he wants to work it out.

Couldn't agree with you anymore. Green has been our best player all year and deserves a three year deal. He also deserves to be in line for captain. I know he was dropped from the leadership group at the start of the year but he is surely one of our leaders and does so by example on the field. I say give him three years and give him job as the captain, if not v/captain!

Brad is entitled to ask for 3 years but the club has every right to offer him 2. We've been burnt often by rapidly deteriorating older players in the last few years and I think it's only prudent to have a policy of 2 year deals max for 27-29 year olds and no more than 1 for 30somethings. We can't allow Casey to become the retirement village Sandy was this year. If Brad can make more money elsewhere and get himself a 3 year deal good luck to him, I'd prefer he stayed but I don't want to see this administration repeat the mistakes of the last.

The thing that doesnt work in Brads favour...is timing. If we were about to head into a window and need to bolster our stocks whilst retaining key players then yes. sign him up for three etc etc etc.. maybe evern offer high end of market money to secure him..after all we'd be look at picking up silverware !!

But were not..unlikely for say 4-5 years.. So if he stays or goes.. it really wont matter much..not in those terms.

Brad has no leverage...maybe someone can tell him..lol But he can by all rights sek a better deal elsewhere..no problem with that.

Why. Like us, the doggies need KPP's. They have a very good mid-field, and plenty of small, medium size players forward and back. I don't think Green would add much to their side at all.

Ive asked this before & will ask this again - why do we feel the need to trade BG???

He is playing very very good footy & isnt going to retire at the end of next year, so why do we wanna move him on???

Yes, I do understand about the young list & looking 5 yrs down the track, but - we need players to help the youngsters along the way.

And as I said, he is playing very very good footy.

I'm with you Skipper!

No good reason to let Green go.............should be kept IMO!

I don't see a prob with him asking for 3 years, and the club standing its ground on 2.

They will sort it out, and I would expect him to stay.......one of the few players who have had a real crack over the last few years!

If our rebuild is going to plan, Brad Green will probably struggle to be in the 22 in 2011.

But he'll be on $500k.

Let that sink in, and think about the up and coming players that we will have to resign at the end of 2010 (Jones, Garland, McLean, Bate etc.) knowing that $500k is locked up on Brad Green.

We are trying to build a strong club, not respect careers.

rpfc i like what your saying

Green, yes he may be a good player- but i dont think he's going to get any better, and we need to free up space on our salary cap. White and Yze has helped, but we're in debt, and it will help with all the young kids we have in our side. Room for movement.

Who said he'll be on $500k?? The club would be very stupid to put him on that sort of $$, the young guys who will be resigning at the end of 2010 will know that he wont be the highest money. Dont you think by then the really good players in every side will be paid more than that?? Footballers wages will continue to grow.

Yes, we are trying to build a strong club & and a strong club holds on to very good club men in this situation.

trade green, so we can have another top 20 pick..i dont see why everyone wants to keep him.

i'd rather inject another young gun into the side

Spot on! Trade Gren for Top 20.. or a player like Dowler and a lower pick, or a straight swap 4 Boyle is fine with me!

Who actually thinks a club is going to give us a top 20 pick for Green, considering the draft will be put on its head in 2010?? (the picks from here in are worth gold)

Maybe, but maybe due to this been the last uncompromised draft that clubs will bank on draft picks not trades.

Doubt it & so does some afl club people too. If clubs are going to look at "topping up", they will look at Kerr, Cousins & Didak - thats it.

Not if they feel they are close to a flag and need to 'top up' to secure a premiership.

Yes, we are trying to build a strong club & and a strong club holds on to very good club men in this situation.

The best 5 players at each club get paid roughly the same amount. That is because of the rule that every club has to pay 92.5% of the cap.

We have to pay the money to someone, which is why White and Yze were on a combined wage of over $1 million. The source is Chris Connolly, who revealed that to reporters a few weeks ago.

I think $500k is a conservative estimate of what Brad wants and what we are prepared to offer.

As for your last few questions, I don't understand what you are saying. The cap is still there even when 'really good players' earn more than $500k.

What I am saying is htis - by the time 2010 rolls around the players contracts will be bigger than they are right now (they grow with CBA, etc). So, even if we did pay Brad that amount of money - when 2010 comes players as you mentioned will be entilted to more $$.

FWIW - I doubt for one second that CC would mention to a reporter how much any player was looking to get in a new contract. Its all pure speculation.

BTW BB - yes, those players dont play ruck - but they all play in the midfield.

Doubt it? You just agreed with me.

Green is set to sign a two year deal next week, with a condtion for a 3rd season. watch this space

Makes sense. It'd be interesting to know what the conditions/criteria are for activating the third year of the deal.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents.
