Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Brad Green value on the market?

because he is a solid, nagging run with player. trust me, more stupid trades have been done

Name them!

It does not mean another stupid trade will be done. You really take other Clubs for patsies if you think a battling midfielder in a bottom side with poor disposal is good trade bait.

If we felt that Green would be over the hill when our next tilt comes around, and we could improve our premiership chances by trading him (for a top pick), then it'd be the way to go.

It may also be a win for Green, as he could go to a Club that felt they were closer to a premiership.

NB: Don't get me wrong, I like Green, and think he's a good player with a few years left - precisely why he may have value as a trade.

If a good deal was put on the table I'd happily trade Green.

The problem is, I don't think too many teams would be all that keen for him.

Revisiting the Brad Green thread here. Looking for a club that feels they are close to a premiership. Although when we look at Geelong and maybe Hawthorn, we often think no-one will come close in the next 2-3 years.

I heard Dean Laidley speak post Elimination Final loss to Sydney. They are in the business of winning a Premiership. He feels their window is not far away. I also believe that Jess Sinclair will perhaps finish up at the kangaroos, perhaps Nathan Thompson.

I'm thinking they might be in the mix for someone like a Brad Green. They finished 8th. So they have Pick 9 and 26.

MOCK TRADE: -

A/ Brad Green and pick 35 for pick 26?

Leaving 1,17,19,26 ........ instead of 1,17,19,35.

OR/

B/ Brad Green and pick 19 for Pick 9?

Leaving 1,9,17,35.

I would think Brad Green at 28yo would more likely result in Option A. But option B would be welcome.

Option A

Its marginal at best to say where better off with pick 26 as opposed to pick #35. You just dont know what you will get that far down the list. A waste of time.

Option B

You are dreaming. For teams that have bowed out of the finals race, I am not sure what Brad Green tops up their respective lists. He is honest hard working player that just does not influence or dominate enough games for mine. I just dont see the upside for side like NM chasing Green. It would be more of the same of what they have and its clearly not goood enough to take them to the next step.

He's a bit different than what NM have, and if they were interested, I suspect it would be more to take Shannon Grant's role as a dangerous marking mid sized forward. Given the comments from the roos after the last couple of days though, I think they realise they are a bit far away to try that on though.

I tend to think that an extra pick around the 14-22 range would be of more value than getting a pick around 10ish at the expense of a good player and a top 20 pick. Particularly if (as I have read) the draft quality is strong up until about 25.

Its a matter of what they want or need. Green can pinch hit on the odd occassion up forward but has never been able to make it his own.

I doubt whether he will get you as high as 14 to 22. I would have expect 24 to 30. And we are starting to getting into the punting region with draft picks.

rhino, that was my problem when i tried to find the right fit for him. i was hoping we could snare a 19 or 20 type pick, but the clubs with those picks wont be interested. the interested clubs will have 9-16 (too high) and the 26-34 (which is probably just a bit lower than we would want to go. he isnt good enough to demand the 9-16 range, not many are, and you either need to be a KPP or a top class midfielder, whereas brad is a mid height utility.

edit:

fwiw i would consider trading wheatley also if a good deal came about. he is old enough (27 like green) that he only has 3 years of good footy left, but could supplement another team in the top bracket. that being said, he isnt hard enough to get into geelong or hawthorns teams, and he is not what the dogs are after either.

but i may consider green and wheatley for 14-15ish if anyone was interested. it wouldnt be a bad investment for a side who thinks they could win a flag getting two players...

Wheatley and pick 35 for Hawthorn's pick 15?

Ambitious but Clarkson has shown a desire for experienced, long kicking wingmen/flankers. May need him, particularly when Stuart Dew's shins finally stop defying the laws of physics......

Green and Wheatley for pick 15 is over-valueing that pick in my view.

i like your deal to hawthorn, but that is selling hawthorn short, as wheatly is 27.

the green and wheatly thing for pick 15 only over values the pick from one side. for us green and wheatley wont take us anywhere, pick 15 will help more in 5 years. for hawthorn, green and wheatley are probably worth more than pick 15 for the next 3 years, which could be their best window to win a flag...it completely depends on whether clarkson thinks they can win a flag with the current older brigade, or need to wait until franklin is older, and the next lot of youngens come through...

I like the creativity but packaging two players who on their own would garner a 2nd or 3rd round pick does not create a better value proposition because the other side are getting two players of 2nd or 3rd pick standard. I have not seen many instances of packaging 2nd tier value players into something better.

And I dont think any MFC players bar McLean would really excited any Coach seeking to shoot for a flag in the next two years and wanting to fine tune their list.

What i find baffling about all this is does Brad want to play for melbourne of not ?

If that is his wish then Melbourne FC are offering a 2 year contract

just sign the contract

want an extension ?

play well for 2 years and lets see

pretty simple really

Durability

Green will be 28 at the start of 2008 and has been pretty durable so I can't really see why 3 years is a concern in terms of durability.

Money

Green is a good but not great player. Does not find his own ball and does not really change games. Is a good mark overhead (does he exploit this enough?) and uses the ball pretty well. We don't want to pay him like he is a champion when he is not.

Compromised Drafts

Then there is the compromised drafts approaching when GC and Western Sydney will have the lion's share of the early picks. Realistically we are 5 years away from a challenge for a flag. A swap for a pick in a 15 - 25 range if that was available may produce a player starting to play good footy by 2013 and beyond when Green will be 32 and retired or in his twilight.

Experience Issue

Some say we can't afford to lose Green because we won't have enough experienced players in 09 and beyond. Can see their point but suspect when placed against the compromised draft issue I'd be pragmatically prepared to do the trade if the pick was right.

yze and white were in good form when their last contract was signed also.

the problem with giving older blokes contracts is that they deteriorate at a different rate to 23 year olds, and they cost more.

Don't want them getting rid of possibly our next captain and if they were to you'd want a first round pick at least. For example Hawthorn's pick 15. Would like to them them retain as many players as possible and try and build a club from within rather then trade to many players away.

Have tried the whole "build the club from within theory" for years..... White, Yze, Green, Bruce and co. have been around the whole time.... Still we await a flag or even a competitive Grand Final appearance..... If the right trade walks along, then Green goes to "Greener" pastures to get old and slow.....

PS. Green was dropped from the leadership group..... Not a hope of ever getting captaincy of the MFC and he knows it!

Green will not go for a pick 15, for all we know he may not even be traded, but if he were it would be mid to high-second round pick (ie pick 20-28). T.Johnstone went at 14 last year (with a Draft Pick No#1 CV).

Crap. Leadership group at start of 08 was (s)elected by the players - a major misjudgement by Bailey - Yze was selected FFS.

If Green moves on via trade, he's worth a 1st round pick. If Kerr's worth 2, Greens worth 1. His biggest problem might be getting a 3 yr deal anywhere; I'm sure he will get the $'s he wants somewhere.

Then again, he might just go into PSD. ;)

(I would prefer him to stay tho'.)

I would suggest that being a leader extends to being seen by those you are leading to be a leader.

Green was injured, however, but real 'captain material' make the extra effort to be involved in the group even when they are overcoming something themselves.

He had a very good season though, and was actually put back in the leadership group midseason.

1st round pick or two years more. I don't want to have a 31 year old flanker on $500k in and out of the team as we try to sign up our youngsters and stay within the cap.

The trouble of having Yze and White on a mil combined was offset by the fact that we didn't have too many 'prospects' to re-sign at the end of last year.

I think you might find the selection process was put forward by the Leadership Consultants the club used - the same consultants that are used by, i think, 10 of the clubs in the AFL.

And have you seen Green on the Footy Show? He's not exactly Mr. Charisma ...

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
